After installation is their any way to get the reading on your Garmin?

Not using this unit, if the outboard is new enough there are connections you can run to it for engine info

The instructions say to run the wire around the spark plug wire if it's a 2 stroke and around the head of the coil if it's a 4 stroke. Does this even make a difference?

I've used the spark plug wire on both 2s and 4s, just need to change the setting on the unit.

Will this work on a 2 stroke 6 cylinder motor as well?

Yes it has different modes for 2 stroke vs 4 stroke and can handle all cylinders

From what I understand you can, I've not done it personally but it should read fine with an extended wire.
