It was cool seeing you guys at Flipside PQ! I'm a bit bummed I failed to ask you to autograph my Sabine. Your list was what initially got my into SWU competitive and helped me win packs during the supply drought to build out other decks.
It's one of those things that I wanted to put real numbers to the data we were all FEELING just by seeing the same names doing well, so that in case something needs to be errata'd, there's something officially calculated for Season 0. I was curious how much was an echo chamber and what was actually happening. And we were all pretty correct in our feelings haha. But still nice to see it laid out and some interesting things can still be extrapolated. Also, much love to the guy who created SWUHub, but yeah - his bases are a bit off. If you look at my document, I've got a second tab with all of the results color coded and with hero/bases corrected. Like Han1 Blue topped UK this weekend, not Han2. Qi'Ra Green Won, not ECL in SLC and the Sabine Greens were in fact Sabine ECL. ANYWAY - My favorite stat is that if you remove Boba and Sabine from the picture for a second: Hero tops are 43 to Villain 42! Kinda fascinating how it all evens out. Thanks for the shout out and congrats! Nice to meet you two!
Im still in the opinion that what skews boba beyond the over statting is his insane support package. No other leader has equivalents of the Armor and Slave 1. If other leaders at least had stuff on par we would see more diversity i think. Im honestly happy that beyond Sabine we seemed to have one of the more diverse PQs here in Albany.
It's a very weird design decision to do something like this. I think it would have been better for the cards to refer to a subtype rather than by name to not make their use so narrow.
The number I'd be most curious to see is (% of field) vs (% of top 8) for the "meta" decks. If Boba is 35% of the field and 41% of all top 8s, those players are justified in playing it. On the other hand, if it's 48% of field and 41% of all top 8s, they are in fact "losing" to the meta. The decks with the highest increase between these two are the ones people need to look at going forward.
I can tell you that the Seattle PQ (100 players) had 24 bobas and 2 in top 8, 15 sabines with 1 in top 8. Totally normal conversion rate. People need to look at that as well as the number of tops because of course if a quarter of the room is on something because it's supposedly the best then it has a higher chance to top just from that.
Space race is real. (Me 5-2, and my friend 4-3 in CP PQ) Both had ided it was the route to win especially vs Boba. I pull 7 cards in from my board to leave the ground vs boba
So do you guys think there is enough stuff coming in Set 3 to shake things up enough that Boba wont be this dominant? And if not do you think we need some sort of nerf/ban/whatever for the competitive circuit?
We're of the no-ban opinion, that's just not how we approach the game. If he did get banned or changed, we wouldn't really blink we'd just keep adjusting like we do each week.
While the game only has two sets, we do have 36 Leaders and over 400 cards in the game so far. That should be plenty of cards to see variety. I've seen games with less have more diversity, TCG or otherwise. There were some poor design or development decisions made in set 1 and 2 that led to these issues. Hopefully they improve their development process and get more playtesters for future sets, as well as refine their design philosophy going forward.
at the Clifton park PQ i learned that Mike was part of the neutral ground van trips for SWCCG...why did you drop "Deck" as a nick name? it is nice seeing OG SW players still going strong
I'm not sure about other PQs, but at Clifton Alex didn't pull any Boba Yellows or even Greens. My issue with the deck is it can lose to an average player on the most played leader in rounds which can result in not converting the top 8, let alone pulling a skilled one in top 8 blocking the 1st conversion. That's unfortunate Matty took out the starviper right before. My team put in seventh fleet into side of boba blue right before, in part, due to predicting uptick in space aggro and lurking ties.
"As of now, Boba has won 16 of 28 PQs (57%), is 28 of 56 of the Finals (50%), and is 41% of the Top 8"

Hey!, thanks for the shoutout. Got top 8 with Qi’Ra at the CO PQ, felt great to refine and get her on the board with a W amongst the sea of bobas
Was cool talking with Matty briefly at Clifton Park! Hope you guys had fun here.
Nice talking with you as well!!
Thanks for the shout out it was great catching up!

You mentioned we can watch Alex Blandin play his Han Yellow. Where is the video/stream of that?
It's on the mclunky twitch channel, it's linked in our show notes if you click the Swu competitive hub site

Can't disagree there

You should check out the Sabine we ran last weekend, no darksaber, it's more go wide

The Cardiff top 8 doesn't look right, it was Han 1/Blue not Han 2
There was a Lando/Red deck that won this weekend why hasn't anyone counted it?
Boba Wars Unlimited
Any chance we can get that Tarkin list?
Which one?

I did move on from it sadly, I miss it! Mainly just because I picked up Bobby and liked it
Han 1 kicked my butt in cp. My only loss that was a blowout. My 2nd loss was by a single action / card flip
Told you guys Albany meta was weird and unpredictable haha

Taking our Starviper was a bad choice lol. And sometimes you dodge matchups and crush! Nice chatting with you bro -Matty
