Wow! Definitely an instant classic Apex video right here! So much knowledge and experience just given away absolutely free, with no ulterior motives other than the desire to help, and *no* manufacturer shilling and bed jumping. Just straightforward and honest content and reviews and thorough instruction of detailing at the elite level. One of the best channels on TH-cam. Period. Thanks, Brian! 👍👌✌
Excellent video! Car makers that are cutting costs by making thinner clear coat is a total disgrace. The consumer should be aware of this and should demand better quality clear coat paint!
Had a very dear friend that was the paint and badly man at a Chevy dealership and in the late 70's early 80's there was a customer that had just purchased a new corvette and camaro, both were black. He wanted them repainted. My friend showed me how thin the factory paint was. Two swipes with sandpaper and you could see primer. Sorry to hear they are heading that way again.
Great info in this video..same hood, different "agressions" , gives a very good idea of what kind of result you can expect with different methods /products/tools etc.. i love the 3D One, you got me hooked on it !loll! i top it off with my favorites sealer /wax combo after... also like the way you show hazing of the paint...wich can easilly be polished after to a shinning mirror!! :-)
If you polish your car to often it’s like taking sandpaper to it.Eventually the clear will be gone. I guess people think that the more the better 🤷🏼♂️I have gained so much from watching your channel and the amount of information is worth it’s weight in gold 💎✊
thanks for that good video Brian, all differents products show us all the improvements at some levels. I’ve just bought Sonax cut’n’finish and new pads and I’m excited to work with on my car.
Thanks Brian! I just got done with a completely hashed and trashed Black 2015 4Runner. Blown away with how soft and thin the clear coat was. It seemed to be much softer than the 2013 Prius I did last month. URO 50/50 and 3D One for the win!
Like your videos. I do notice one thing that may alter some of these results, which is not cleaning your pads in between or using a fresh pad. Maybe you're doing that and not showing it in the vide? One example is the 50/50 cutting pad
I watched rag company video on burning through clear and it demonstrates that it take a while to ruin your clear. I agree with you say though why over due it.
I think the term "polish" sometimes means something different to the professional than just the average Joe. I was talking to my neighbor the other day and he was "polishing" his truck. Those were his words. What he was actually doing was applying a sealant with his 6" orbital buffer.
The manzerner 3 in 1 step also do a amazing job in the soft clear coat with the lake country white pad. I think 3 D 1 with euro fiber pad should be more aggressive
Very informative I do very much enjoy your videos. Still waiting to see a test panel with the chemical guys what’s a called ceramic wax Hydro ceramic wax. I actually bought some of that stuff polish on my truck ended up using a synthetic with and Collinite. I know you don’t like to stack I’m old-school just trying to make it last. Any good tips. Thanks brother appreciate .
hello yes this is what i want to know i have a 2013 cadillic truck hood to do and the paint is fade it should be compond first then polish then wax in that order need some good advice on what type of machine i need with combinations of liquid thank you.
I got to correct and ceramic coat a Honda HRv black 2016... There is not Big scratches but it has been polished before, that scare me me a little, about the clearcoat
Hi I really like your videos very educational. I have been detailing on an off for 35 years. I have gotten back into it and I would like to get certified by igl how can I get this I’ve gone to there site Ian currently in Suffern NY but I live in Myrtle beach
Just discovering your channel and love it! On these soft Japanese paint, will Meguiars Ulltimate Compund (not Polish) or 3D One finish out better with a Porter Cable and finishing foam? Bias towards leaving as much paint as possible and gloss, and trading off chasing every single scratch.
Great information as usual Brian! Can I ask how you would prep a previously coated vehicle for reapplication of a new coating? Would light polishing alone be enough to ensure the failing coating is removed or would you need something more aggressive like a one step? I am planning on coating one of my cars (it lives outside) with a 2 year coating and I wanted to know how you would handle the removal of the old coating after the 2 years.
Is there a way to tell if paint is soft or thin without even touching it with a polisher or paint debth gauge? Is there a difference in appearence or any difference in feel? Is there a chart that shows how hard certain vehicles paints are? Is there a measurement for how hard paint is?
Brian- Another great video! Generally speaking it seems so much easier to get shine and gloss.. the most difficult thing for me is achieve perfect depth and paint clarity . What is the best method to achieve this consistently? And how do you when are there?
Meguiar's solo cut & polish 👍 Brian, meguiar's 3 in 1 wax or meguiar's dark wax could have done a good job with a urofiber pads in this battle with these same products? Cleaner wax and color x I do not think so. they must not be abrasive enough ?! Or meguiar's swirl X but who is not an aio!?
Brian, been a long time. Would Megs 83 be a good way to make sure an old sealant is gone, before coating installation? I'm guessing yes. I'm talking about PA Master Sealant which is pretty tenacious (and awesome as well). thx.
Would you use the Urofiber 50/50 with something like Griot's Complete Compound or the Meg's Ultimate Compound? I have a new-to-me 2005 Tundra in black that I would like to clean up the paint a bit before waxing/sealing. It has had years of neglect from the previous owner. I'm new to the DA and paint correction in general.
I was recently a victim of a hit & run at a parking lot so after the shop replaced the hood and grill I asked them how soon before I could use a polishing and they told me 3 months, at least. I also asked them how much clear coat they used and they told me two coats, which I interpreted as 2 mils. Is this right?
Higher the speed the faster and more aggressive the cut. But with more speed you build heat and damage. Brian likes it between 3 or 4 I believe. No need to go higher.
Thoughts on Megs 85? I see you got 83 and 86 missing 85 haha! I saw it at pepboys for 10$ for a 32 Oz im like fuck it... Haven't tried it yet but its alot of product for 10$ save it for special customers that complain about price and try to offer half or just petty shit like that. Hate them!!
Brian is a master, but the bottom line is heat destroys paint and buffers create heat. I have professionally detailed cars since the 70s. Paint has changed tremendously. From trashed cars I worked on, the general idiot does not care about swirls, only that it has protection on it. I have a regular client with a Rolls Royce, Ferrari and Masersti. I never use a buffer on them. No swirls. Like Brian, I own a 70s Corvette. I never wash it. Just spray wax and a light polish. No swirls. No holograms and rhe paint is 25 years old.
Wish you would have been cleaning those oils off post polish use as will happen in a few days or first wash or rain. You leave those filler oils and it's masking what the paint will a tally look like for 99.9% of its time. At least IPA spray and wipe down. Without a wipe this is all smoke and mirrors. It's also what really screws with novices. They think their correction looks great until a few days or wash later and then are WTF. No clue why.
I will cover more serious correction procedures for soft clear coat in the next video....stay tuned.
good morning 6 27 am morning
This is absolutely the best channel for me as a beginner. Thank you so much for all the work, time and effort you put into this, Brian!
I second. That sentiment is like. Being in college. He's professor Apex
Brian, IMHO you have the best auto detailing channel on TH-cam. I like that you do not BS around or yap endlessly.
As usual I put a blue thumb even before watching the video! So much I love your great job Brian! 👍 👍 👍

Great segment- been waiting on the soft, black
Used the euro 50-50 pad with 3-D one on my sons ‘92 black NSX and it worked like magic, and no haze.
This is a great video showing the different options. Helps me a lot.

Some great tips in here. Thank you!

Thank you so much...i have really learn a lot from you...and as always good job pal

It is used loosely in the industry.
as always thank you for you knowledge
Great video Brian good content on soft clear coat thanks Brian
great video again buddy. true craftsman at its best. b well good friend
Nice brian very nice
Great episode Brian. My Toyota is jet black so I believe it is a soft clear coat. The manzerna
The manzerner 3 in 1 step also do a amazing job in the soft clear coat with the lake country white pad. I think 3 D 1 with euro fiber pad should be more aggressive
@@karenlau9880 Menzerna is an excellent option.👍
Great video! This helped me so much! Thank you!
Great video!!
I use a couple of those product combos AngelWax AIO and 3D one great results on a car that is not trashed.
Great information... soaking it up like a sponge 😁👍🏼
A fantastic tutorial!
Thanks brian
My man! Thank you.
Lol...a bunch of what? I love this channel!
Hooooo Haaaaa!
Thank You, nice comparisons
good video brian.
thank you
amazing content sir. I wonder while I am using a 7inch foam pad for heavy cut, it gets bumpy just from the start

One pad to rule them all, one pad to bind them and in the darkness bind them.
Uro 50/50

Would something like griots poly wax that has no abrasives remove the haze?
Would have loved to see a gauge on each panel.

Another great video!

A cut and polish in 2 steps will get you there.
A lot of testing done with that same hood. I wonder how much clear is left.
it did not remove much really, only started to remove in the last section when you start to get hazing really~! ;-)
Meguiar's solo cut & polish 👍

Brian, could you please define 'long throw' for us beginners? thank you much!
Long throw is the offset or radius of the oscillation of the backing plate and pad as your polisher is running. 21mm or 15mm
@@apexdetail85 Thank you sir much appreciated!

does a 2014 subaru forester dark charcoal have soft paint? it's tricky! think this will work well on it?

What rinseless product and method do you use on your car?
Red machine is Ro or DA or GA?
So is a cleaner wax less aggressive than an all in one? I guess I thought they were the same thing.
AIO are meant to cut lightly, finish out and protect. Therefore should be a little more aggresive
When using the euro 50/50 how many pads do you recommend to do one sedan? Looking to buy some later, they finish out great
I usually use 6 pads for 1 car. Clean with compress air after every pass. 2 for hood 1 for side 1 for hood and 2 for trunk
On true soft black paint, a uro 50/50 pad will not finish without noticeable micro marring/hazing after a prep wipe, even with a fine cut polish.
True That.
Hey Brian, when will I know to use microfiber instead of foam for paint enhancement?
Microfiber cuts deep and fast. Use on hard clear or trashed clear.
What 3 inch pad would you use for a 3D one?
To cut...or finish?
Apex Detail that’s the equivalent to the white medium cut pad
Sir, with that question of a polisher every month is kinda a NO-NO, can you use a DA with wax every other month?
You can wax as often as you like. If you are using a finishing pad then you won't remove any clear.
Here’s a question I don’t think I ever heard answer. When do you use different speeds on Da ? They have 7 settings.
Higher the speed the faster and more aggressive the cut. But with more speed you build heat and damage. Brian likes it between 3 or 4 I believe. No need to go higher.

What is the hardest paint to polish soft or hard ,the knowledge needed is insane ..
Soft, thin is difficult. Hard clear just takes a bit of time because it is stubborn.
Apex Detail Thanks 👍
do you get halograms with a aio with a rotary?
Not with the right pad and a clean environment.
Which one step polish + pad combo does YOUR company sale for absolute beginners for quick paint enhancements?
How many times you can do paint enhancement?
Edit: Also, what you think about glaze?
Once every year or two .....but less is better.
You need to panel wipe the area to get a ' true ' result......
