Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco: La dodecissima notte (Twelfth Night) Op. 73 (1933)

Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was one of the most promising Italian composers of his generation. Castelnuovo wrote music inspired by many Shakespearean plays; one of them is The Twelfth Night. In this overture, the musical references in the play appear across its several sections, most notably Orsino’s invitation to music in Act II or the song Three merry men we be representing the Puritan servant Malvolio.
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco fue uno de los compositores italianos más prometedores de su generación. Castelnuovo escribió música para varias obras de Shakespeare; una de ellas siendo Noche de Reyes. En esta obertura, las referencias musicales en la obra aparecen en sus muchas secciones, notablemente la invitación del duque Orsino a la danza en el acto II o la canción “Three merry men we be” representando al sirviente puritano Malvolio.
