I really enjoy your time lapse bud openings! Don't worry about editing them too much...we're all orchid lovers here and love the suspense! Beautiful orchid found one in Ecuador for $45 U.S.
Oh Ed, I'm so excited, humboldtii, this is one of the divisions you let me have. It is growing very nicely and thank you once again - if mine ever blooms for me it's all down to you. Keep up the good work my dear friend 🤗
Hi Margaret yours is a definite division of this plant and it shouldn't be long until you can show all of us the lovely blooms. It's not down to me Margaret when yours does bloom......it's 100% down to your care and skill. Ed
Ed, you did a wonderful job of editing this film. Your narration is peaceful and informative. The entire time my jaw was dropping in anticipation of the next opening. Is it the sepals that were growing so very long. This is just such an excellent time lapse film. Thank you for your careful showing. Fun!
Good morning Barbara and a million thanks for your kind words. Yes the sepals are almost over 2 feet long.....and still growing. Thanks for your much appreciated comment. Ed.
WOW!Beautiful display of lovely blooms! Now I will have to try to find one of these beauties that I can afford. You are again showing your expertise at growing these plants. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and these wonderful videos
Just wonderful & I have to say my very first pragmipedium has a flower spike, your instructions were spot on thanks. I now am the proud owner of number 2 prag.
Sorry I'm a little late with this reply Helen. Thank you for saying that my instructions were helpful to you. Congrats on your new phrag purchase I am sure that you now know to cultivate these beauties,....thank you. Ed.
What a glorious phrag! My Fireworks is similar but it doesn't have the magnificent long sepals and dark chocolate pouches! Congrats on the award of Merit. Well deserved!!!! Great video. I'm fascinated how these flowers opened. Please consider doing more!
Sorry I'm a little late with my reply ResQuetzal. Thank you for your good remarks about the humboldtii. I just noticed I have a very good rothschildianum starting to bud so that should be a good contender for my next ''time-lapse'' video Ed.
Very interesting video. Lovely flowers. The side petals are really very long, at first they were looking like whiskers, very long ones. I bet you will, she is stunning.
My apologies for being late with a reply to your comment Fernanda. The plant is going down to the International Show next week. In the wild the long petals cease to grow once they touch the ground.... so that insects can crawl up and pollinate the blooms......and they say the human race is clever!!!!! Have a great weekend. Ed.
@@EdsOrchids Hi Ed, That is amazing. One of the things that fascinate me most are the clever strategies plants use to reproduce. Even the smallest wild plants know what to do and do it well 😃
@@EdsOrchids you need to understand I try to gleam in a car all the information I can about my orchids I have some babies right now it will be a long time before they even get up to Blooming but I like the challenge of trying to get there. And I love to see them blooming. But again I want to thank you for taking the time to record the opening of your balloons.
I didn't really know if viewers would enjoy showing things this way, but from the very nice comments I am getting it looks like the idea was successful. Thanks once again Marge. Ed.
Hi Ed What a beautiful orchid, I looked at them in Burnhams on my last visit, they were way beyond my budget, l bought for small mature orchid + a couple of seedlings for the price of a mature phrag, they didn’t have any small ones, can you let me know when the meeting and orchid show is please? K
Hi eljorgo You can never tell with Phragmipediums when they will bloom......they just surptise you when you are least expecting them to bloom.....take care and thanks, Ed.
They don't damage very easily Ynse unless you're a bit ' ham-fisted ' ..I just put it in a box with the petals tucked into the leaves.....absolutely no problem. Ed.
Hello Ed what a treat! Two experts in one video, now don’t get cross with me, I know you told my Where look on the website to find out the date of the shows, I cannot find them, I think you’re giving me the wrong info to avoid me K
North of England Orchid Society is all you need to find us And if you type us in you will find htpp://orchid.org.uk/ which is our login.... Now why on earth would I try to avoid you Cath!!!!!! Ed.

They will stay in bloom for at least 6 weeks. Thanks for taking a look liko.
Ed.
So interesting. What is the purpose of the petals growing so long? Does it use an insect pollinator that has to crawl up them to get to the pouch?
You're perfectly correct Michael .....and thanks for taking a look.

How do you get this to a show without any damage
They don't damage very easily Ynse unless you're a bit ' ham-fisted ' ..I just put it in a box with the petals tucked into the leaves.....absolutely no problem.
