met this guy round the back of the Manchester Apollo when he was playing with Fleet Foxes and complimented him on his drumming. He was like "I'm not really a drummer" and at the time I thought it was gross modesty. Now I know what he meant...
Just came here to say I'm working night shift and, as per usual, this song / version gives me a little pep in my step. Everything about this rendition on KEXP just pushes this song/album over the top. What phenomenal work the audio engineer at KEXP does. KEXP really needs to figure out a way to get these songs available for download.
LYRICS: I ran down the road, pants down to my knees Screaming "please come help me, that Canadian shaman gave a little too much to me!" I'm writing a novel.... because it's never been done before Oh First house that I saw I wrote house up on the door LORD And told the people who lived there they had to get out "cause my reality is realer than yours" And there's no time for the present.. duh! there's a black dog on the bed I went to the backyard naturally to burn my only clothes And the dog ran out and said "you can't turn nothing into nothing is with me no more" Well I'm no doctor.. not yet! but that monkey might be right Oooooh And if he is...... I'll be walking him my whole liiiiiiife OH! Woooooooaaahh!! I rode to Malibu ... on a dune buggy with Neil He said "you're gonna have to drive me down on the beach if you ever want to write the real" I said I'd love to... But "I'm sorry, young man what is your name again?" Now everywhere I go in West Hollywood It's filled with people pretending they don't see the actress and the actress wishing that they could We could do ayahuasca Baby if I wasn't holding all these drinks Something 'bout the way Violet whips her hair That makes me empty my pockets on the corner to corner bumming twenties as if I was the mayor I don't need any new friends, Momma But I could really use something to do So if you're up for it sometimes I swear you wouldn't have to be my muse Heidegger and Sartre, drinking poppy tea I could've sworn last night I passed out in my van and now these guys are pouring one for me I'll never leave the canyon - why would I?' cause I'm surrounded on all sides! By people writing novels and living on amusement rides
I discovered this song in a channel called "Concert Channel" and I found so fucking awesome, plus the style and eccentric movements of Josh... love at first hearing with this song. In fact, I don't had internet in that moment, so I took a photo to the TV, just to search for the song later.
I still vividly remember listening to this for the first time and it was Goose covering it. I thought to myself I don’t think they wrote this, did two seconds of research and found this version. Oh my god!
Damn! I love this band and Josh is so talented and sexy. Love his energy. Love the way he moves and his voice is amazing. Great live performance. Very well done. Give me more!!
HaAHA! MY boys! Holy shit... the party's rolling. Thank Gaia for coming you out of that sweet soil. "If you're up for it sometime, I swear you wouldn't have to be my muse." - Holy shit... haha, so good. Hey FJM I'll see what I can do about printing one of my own replicas of that kickass shirt.
This song is so good. Oh, to whomever said he's being serious: he is while he's joking, if that makes sense. He's joking, but that doesn't mean he doesn't believe in the joke. I would say this is the perfect blend of not taking it too seriously while still tearing that shit up. This has lit up my heart in a big way by touching my brain, my funny bone, my beliefs (legalize non-narcotic drugs dammit) and my get down. His voice is outstanding, too.
Just found you through Lifer Music and Art, yep it was more than worth clicking the link to find myself boogieing through the house with my broom. Where do I buy the album? My house will be spotless :)
The drummer looks like he really doesn't want to be there. Almost like he's disappointed with how his life has turned out and that he has to take gigs like this. He's probably rather be at some smoky bar in a Lynyrd tribute band!
Jake Elliott He did a wild interview on a podcast with Duncan Trussell, you should check it out! Rogan hasn't done nearly enough LSD to keep up with the legend that is FJM
I want to like this guy.....but I don't find him believable. I don't feel that he belives in himself. Father John? You really in touch with your soul? This is about the second comment I have left on TH-cam in about 8 years. I hope I am wrong and that people find something great in him.

great story. he was right, fortunately! but, nonetheless, he plays some tasty drums too.
Fucking loved the Apollo. Mind Seen Pulp there in 98, still one of the greatest gigs I’ve seen.
i just simply cannot go back to the studio version of this song no more. this blows that one out of the water.
Live energy is unbeatable
Well you're partially right.....like everything this nauseating poser does, it blows
Same, here! It's a great song... but seemed so lackluster after this.
💯Absolutely! Me too!
Without trying to compare him to anyone cause he’s so damn enigmatic but I would say He’s the modern day Jim Morrison.
Definitely
100%
this is so good its honestly offensive
+Hannah A. thats an interesting way to put it
This comment is so good it's honestly offensive
Best version of this song.
I can't decide what I love more - the dancing or the song.
I like the part where he fucks himself to death
SHAKE IT JOSH, SHAKE IT
I like this music

Josh has a very commanding speaking voice. it's adorable.
The secret is incessant talking to himself and a diet of cum
Hell yeah!!!
I still vividly remember listening to this for the first time and it was Goose covering it. I thought to myself I don’t think they wrote this, did two seconds of research and found this version. Oh my god!
Actually like this more than the album version :) More live, more energy
This FJM is still the best FJM. I miss this band and these songs.

Great version of this song. He looks like someone I'd like to have a beer with.
Holy shit this is an amazing version. Currently one of my favorite songs.
Damn! I love this band and Josh is so talented and sexy. Love his energy. Love the way he moves and his voice is amazing. Great live performance. Very well done. Give me more!!
Saw this video blasting in the "SkyChurch" at the EMP Museum in Seattle. Freaking whoa now.
KEXP deserve some sort of lovely medal
Wow what a song. Thanks, Carter.

Just found you through Lifer Music and Art, yep it was more than worth clicking the link to find myself boogieing through the house with my broom. Where do I buy the album? My house will be spotless :)

bass player is so into it haha
who said wooowwzerzz and laughed?? haha genious
Tillman is the world's biggest folk dude
Does anybody know who plays lead guitar on this and what he does now? Anyway Josh goes full-tilt here even using the French pronunciation of "Sartre."
His name is Benji Lysaght
Man FJM "RIPPING AND TEARING"
I feel like that Canadian shaman gave a little to much to FJM before this
the tour life changed Benji. He's like all rugged and shit now.
Anyone know the name of the drummer?
jim morrison reincarnated
anyone else read his shirt?
Yowza!
Who’s he whose that guy😂
Tom Petty on bass
That fucking shirt
its as if mick jagger has transplanted his soul
I know what you mean, but I think he takes himself seriously (which I like) his eyes look too seriously to be a joke.
The drummer looks like he really doesn't want to be there. Almost like he's disappointed with how his life has turned out and that he has to take gigs like this. He's probably rather be at some smoky bar in a Lynyrd tribute band!
Anthony David watch the kexp video of them performing hollywood forever cemetery sings the drummer looks so happy in that video!!!!
Get this Joker on Joe Rogan
Jake Elliott He did a wild interview on a podcast with Duncan Trussell, you should check it out! Rogan hasn't done nearly enough LSD to keep up with the legend that is FJM
goofy but sexy! Legalize LSD! LOL. That Canadian Shaman did something to him!
Kurt Cobain is alive and playing bass guitar ...
both equally the same. and his shirt tops it off.
Cobain at bass, lol
Dave Grohl took up drums again.
Legalize LSD
Lol. 18 more verses...
Don't love the dancing but the song is great lol
