I know it's hardly a surprise that KEXP's sound engineers are doing a great job, but it is still worth pointing out that they did awesome here. A great thank you KEXP for posting these videos, It is highly appreciated!
"I don't believe in cynical music." Lol This is probably his most sincere interview he's given. Wasn't sure about the album at first, but after buying cd and leaving it in car a few weeks, it's gold.
i know for a lot of people this statement will be overkill but, i really think its the best album of the year at least. Just so well thought out, so much packed in, so oddly honest and realistic and true, and hyperbolic and just idk its just a work of true art in my opinion. Regardless of Josh TIllman and how people feel about him what he has created on this album is pretty amazing.
i made direct eye contact with Josh Tillman after he played "ideal husband" as the encore for his 2017 show at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, CA. I was near the front and as the crowd was going nuts with post show glow, he came to the edge of the stage to say thanks and goodbye, we locked eyes and as Josh would say "we had a moment". And although I'm completely hetero but I've been in love with the man ever since.
The best bands are on KEXP I found Father John Misty today - Parquet Courts and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard a few months ago. Keep them coming. 🎸 🎼 ❤
It's fantastic. I think the trouble with performing it live is the outro being so intricate - I might be wrong but I believe at one point there's a bowed vibraphone!
Well this is the best surprise I will have all week, thank you KEXP. Also, I swear he sounds just like Peter Sarsgaard (circa garden state) when he speaks.
This was my first experience to father john misty and I've never been the same. This is true talent and artistry. It's just so good. Truly one of my favorite albums ever, now.
I Went to a Store One Day www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DcBYjAVqMtqo&ved=0ahUKEwi6wffg2qTZAhVG2VMKHcraC8IQtwIIVDAJ&usg=AOvVaw07Or2-BtUejYqNM3niKMLh
when Josh sang that one wrong lyric on Ballad of A Dying Man, I was singing along and made the exact same mistake. Can't help but feel like it was my fault!
1:42 Tillman tugs at the microphone cord while glaring directly at the producers in the background, who are nervously eyeing him as he begins to wander off set. Josh is testing their authority.
(21:45) "it's inextricable from my life, not to be dramatic about it, but, if you remove it from my life, you just have a riddler costume" *cameraman zooms out* the fact this scene happened in absolute silence..... pure comedy indeed (i love you farmer job mystic i've been listening to your records nonstop since last year and i love the shoutout you gave to "now im learning to love the war" here cause im stuck on fear fun for the last week.. anyway COME TO BRAZIL hope to see you live someday)
I love how people don't understand it's all an act about him being self-absorbed, he's really down to earth and used to take himself incredibly seriously
whenever you see someone in the comments call his lyrics 'try-hard' or 'full of himself', be sure to ask which religion they're very upset on behalf of.
Eh. I'm an atheist too, but the vibe he's going for can't be achieved without coming off as bigheaded, at least on the surface. Edit: To be honest, if he just added in a line every once in a while that equated to "hey, I'm an ape-cunt too," then he would effectively negate this problem.
Duck Licker he does in quite a few songs. Ballad Of The Dying Man is making fun of his self-important "role" as a preacher type artist. There's a verse or two in Leaving LA talking about "another white guy in 2017 who takes himself so goddamn seriously". Those two are just off the top of my head, but I'm pretty sure there's other as well
FJM is a mixed bag as a person, but i feel like he's probably a better, more likeable guy than many give him credit for. Everyone has a persona, esp on stage, but i do feel he's pretty genuine. He has demons and he tries to overcome them. He's kinda crazy, but pretty relatable.
How come Father John looks like Sergeant Pepper got dishonorably discharged and now spends his days eating fist fulls of scrambled eggs and bath salts? Also, these songs are very good. Get some rest, Josh.

She's a beautiful woman.
She's the mom of indie

It's incredible how rich his voice sounds. Just about the same as the record
It doesn't matter how many times I hear Pure Comedy, I get the goosebumps every single time
I love the host of this show. You can tell that she really appreciates the music and she asks great questions.

Hello friend
Im a new Fan!!!! Amazing lyrics with the sounds as a bonus. Very clear and pronounced words are really eccentric.
thx
wow I've never seen so much detailed in the interview part
One of our greatest troubadours of the cosmos currently. His lyrics, his bright spirit, he stands out in today's music scene very very favorably.
She is such a great host!
I know it's hardly a surprise that KEXP's sound engineers are doing a great job, but it is still worth pointing out that they did awesome here. A great thank you KEXP for posting these videos, It is highly appreciated!
God, I love him. His music has helped me a lot when I've gone through some really shitty times and mindsets.
"I don't believe in cynical music." Lol
This is probably his most sincere interview he's given. Wasn't sure about the album at first, but after buying cd and leaving it in car a few weeks, it's gold.
Michael Abraham That's how I feel too. Bought it on vinyl and cant stop listening to it.

This is definitely one of the best performances I've seen on KEXP
Amazing songs. Amazing interview. Thank you Mother Earth for bringing all of us here.

I wish he would play that "Magic Mountain" song. Man, that one is such an experience!
It's fantastic. I think the trouble with performing it live is the outro being so intricate - I might be wrong but I believe at one point there's a bowed vibraphone!
Your beard must be such an experience!
I know right? definitely a fave off the new album
He played it on Sunday in Sydney!
It was so awesome live.

Fully thought Cheryl was playing the piano riff on a midi for a second
Yeah me too lol

God thank you for making me feel less lonely mr tillman
The artwork for this album is pure genius
I like the stripped back arrangement here, it lets you reeeeeeally focus on what josh is saying
A true artist.
Top artist, awesome poems, wonderful voice, and great music!
In no time at all this will be the distant past
OneMinuteFixed that made me sad
OneMinuteFixed We can only hope!
take me to the distant past, i wanna go backkkkkkkk

"The superego shatters with our ideologies [...] the obscene injunction to enjoy life disappears." *sniffs* "And so on, and so on"
My two favorite songs of his are Hollywood Cemetery Forever & The Night Josh Tillman Came To Our Apartment.
Nancy From Now On and Chateaux Lobby!

This set pulled me out of a mental loop
Thank you for sharing your gift
unexpected bliss at 6:14
Man, that room never looked so magical
this guy is great !!! so nice to hear this kind of music thank you
when Josh sang that one wrong lyric on Ballad of A Dying Man, I was singing along and made the exact same mistake. Can't help but feel like it was my fault!
Cheryl will always be the best interviewer
"If you remove it from my life you just have a Riddler costume" *zoom out* XD Love Josh
This might be one of the greatest things Ive seen on the Internet
That’s sad 😂🤣
I feel empty now that this is over.
Sometimes I forget that Josh doesn't have eyebrows.
Damn, now can't look at anything else
Marcus Backman he does, they are just incredibly thin and light, almost unnoticeable
And he doesn’t really need them, right? He expresses a lot with his mere look...
Marcus Backman he don't need them, eyebrows are for the weak minds and weak eyes.
So they're like his music?
I love the sarcasm on 0:35
Is it live or he plays his CD inside of his mouth
Her voice is so pleasant
Father John "Y'know" Misty
This is awesome. Thanks, KEXP.
Love the pick over the piano strings
1:42 Tillman tugs at the microphone cord while glaring directly at the producers in the background, who are nervously eyeing him as he begins to wander off set. Josh is testing their authority.
Chad Lol..maybe but WHATEVER DUDE! You must be in love too
Chad #resist
Nah, there was an audience there he was singing to. We know what we like working with Josh and it doesn't make us nervous.
KEXP mmmmmhm okay sure
yeah why take their word for it... trump voter
I love this performance. I love josh.
Josh has a beautiful voice.

how many tall-handsome-artsy-guy poses do you think he practiced in the mirror before he settled on that one
mxsxkxcrc Lol...this dude completely self absorbed no doubt
Still love his music.
I love how people don't understand it's all an act about him being self-absorbed, he's really down to earth and used to take himself incredibly seriously
maybe, but he comes off like the character Desi on the show Girls. maybe it's satire, or maybe it's not
agreed, wish he would do some short pudgy youtube commenter poses instead
this is the first time i think ive seen someone on kexp explore the background with the lights... didnt know you could walk around back there...
Sarcastic Michael Buble is back.
hahahaha!
I can't see one way in which they are similar. Anyone care to explain?
Farther John misty
gabelogan56 He said in an interview that he mainly describes himself to cab drivers as a "Sarcastic Michael Buble"
FJM: DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?
Cab Driver: No, sir.
FJM: I'M LIKE A SARCASTIC MICHAEL BUBLE
Cab Driver: Where would you like to go, sir?
6:14 that falsetto is chilling
LOVE YOUR TOP CHERYL!!!
its so easy to listen to him
SCREAMING AND CRYING
Blessed is our Father
flawless mic control

That's definitely true of a couple good Jews I know.

Love the music. Also, I found myself fast-forwarding past the songs for the chats in between tunes! Great hypnotic gab master. Thanks for the video.
ok. i'm kidding.
Holy shit
he doesn't wear a lab coat, but he sure does wear a fab coat
Love this video so much
He does it again!
wonderful
Groovy man.
Pure comedy is AOTY
Cheryl
Kind of glad (in a way) that he left Fleet Foxes. If he hadn’t then he probably wouldn’t have gone solo.
Cheryl Waters brings out the best in people doesn't She
Love is the thread ❤
great!
yeah!!!
OMG FINNALY!!!
Take a shot each time he says "you know"
Lots of Elton John influence melodically and vocally. You really here it in the 2nd song.
omg I love this so much, am I wrong?
FJM is a mixed bag as a person, but i feel like he's probably a better, more likeable guy than many give him credit for. Everyone has a persona, esp on stage, but i do feel he's pretty genuine. He has demons and he tries to overcome them. He's kinda crazy, but pretty relatable.
37:24 full of humanity
Josh TIllman, aka Father (ELTON) John Misty
Come back to Mexico please!
@33:25 Cheryl "uffff". Same Cheryl, same.
His voice remind me to elton joohn dunno why
jorge ortiz I hear a bit of that too.
There were certainly some instances when that crossed my mind
Don McLean
Reminds me a bit of Elton John not in a bad way but something that could be administered to this day an age; awesome work here
30:29 the pianist like... "man wtf are you doin'?"
Fuck yes.
Interesting guy...bet he's great live 🌈 xxxxxxxxxxx
That's a sweet duster
He was totally high lol, those red eyes 😆
How come Father John looks like Sergeant Pepper got dishonorably discharged and now spends his days eating fist fulls of scrambled eggs and bath salts? Also, these songs are very good. Get some rest, Josh.

He. Plus lay a track for an album every time he picks up a microphone
love some of his music. He seems super depressed to me. Cool dude
Does anyone have a link to the film Cheryl is talking about at 12:06 that he made for the album?

Me first sister wife.
TheZooropaBaby Is ZooropaBaby a U2 reference? Like Achtung Baby and Zooropa?
