I was just there Monday with my boys, telling them how as a trainee at RAF Cosford in 1987 we use to have to do "fire pickets" patrolling at night, it was very different then, alot of the big aircraft were outside, although the Lincoln was inside. Alot of the fire pickets wouldn't go in the hangar because they had "heard noises", and the story that the Lincoln was haunted, I always thought it was the aircraft cooling down overnight, its painted black and readily absorbs heat from the heating in the hangar roof. I did hear of a story that a trainee managed to get up into the cockpit with the help of a buddy, and rapidly jumped out a minute later saying the temperature had suddenly dropped and that the hairs on his neck just stood on end! active imagination or real who knows, happy halloween!
My marine buddy had a similar experience around a couple of C-130's used to ferry bodies during the Vietnam War. Didn't believe the stories until he heard for himself during guard duty. 8n high school, we used to see a shadowy figure move down the hallway headed for his room. Found out years later, the previous owner was a marine that had committed suicide in the front bedroom, which was his room.

But I must say that the random stock 2007 youtube spook noises made this feel more like a parody rather than an engaging spooktacular avitation story and it is of my opinion that a single somber or unsettling track throughout the video would have vastly improved its quality.

Thanks Mark, I needed that. My Dad, who was with Bomber Command in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Lancaster mechanic (and all Merlin engines) during the war. He passed three years ago at age 93, and your video not only brought back memories, but was a bit spooky to boot! Thanks, I guess.

The tour of the plane was carried out by a volunteer who had started out as a rear gunner, ended up as a pilot in that aircraft. He told stories all about his time in action, never mentioned any ghosts. I Wish I could have recorded his stories!
I attended a Unit Darkroom Technicians course at RAF Cosford in early 1982 - I was serving in the Royal Engineers at the time and we were due to go on a NI tour. I distinctly remember this aircraft, it was in a hanger, by Horsa Way I think, with a large number of other aircraft. The main reason I remember it is because one of the other students took a photo of the starboard side of this plane and, when the picture was developed, a clear image of a pair of flying goggles could be seen looking out from the left hand seat in the pilot's area! I used to visit Cosford regularly. I lived 25 mins away in Telford, so a great day out for not much money. Visited one Sunday and the museum was not very busy. No other people around the Lincoln apart from myself and my girl. I took the chance to ask if the pilot was present here. There was a distinct tapping coming from the cockpit. I took a step back and looked up. There was a strange greyish shadow floating around the windows. I believe Major Hiller is attached to the plane.

Worked on an old Hurricane base for gnat display team as an intern. they told me the same story. not only that the airfield I worked on was also haunted. Mechanics reported that they saw RAF pilots walking around their hanger or even sitting in the cockpits of there planes during night shifts not even joking. spooky place
I remember many years ago seeing a report on the news about this. IIRC it was Sue Lawley on Nationwide. There was B roll footage shown after the report which appeared to show a ghost pilot hanging his arm out of the cockpit window. This was late 70's or very early 80's & for some reason I remember it very clearly. Be interesting to see that footage again if it could be found.
The Argentine Air Force was another major user of Lincolns. I remember reading a report of Argentine crews also reporting similar strange noises at night in the aircraft. How many aircraft were " haunted" I don't know, and there was speculation that all this was picked up from RAF reports of the occurances aboard 398.

A Lancaster bomber flies over my house about once a week in the summer... saw it again today. I heard it is the last operational one in the world. Amazes me how low it flies
I don't really believe that the lincon is haunted, I've been there to see it, I also heard the tape but I still don't 100% believe it. It's a cool part of the museum though.

Haunted old millitary craft happen a lot . there's a helicopter fron the Vietnam war in a certain museum in ohio ..it was restored later for the museum . you can sometimes hear switches flipping and buttons clicking and whisper ish mumbling like a far away radio .. if you walk by it in the hangar when its empty that sounds like perhaps a medic working on someone .

Those spooky noises sounds like what an old aircraft does after people walk in it. I have be in an old b-17 and heard those exact sounds. I suspect most of these sounds were from them walking and disturbing things. Radar/navigation from the aircraft could have accidentally been turned on causing that sound. Most museum pieces are kept to working order so I wouldn't doubt that. I believe if you really wanted to believe something you manifest your beliefs.

By the way with the V2, there is also a V1 in the foreground and a Messerschmitt "Enzian" missile (Yellow and red), a Henschel Hs 298 and a Henschel Hs 117. The two fins on the far right belong to part of a two stage German anti aircraft missile the Rheintocher R. The transport aircraft shown are an Avro York, Douglas DC3 Dakota (hanging), a Handley Page Hastings T5 and in the far background an Armstrong Whitworth Argosy. The wing tip you can see in the top right hand corner is a Gloster Javelin all weather delta wing fighter. It is a fantastic museum.
Have previously worked at and visited RAF Costford, we saw the ghostly figure most often on the rounds between 22:00 and 00:00. He was always sitting in the navigators position or in the right hand pilots seat. The figure would apear to be at work, look up at the noise of the door as we entered, smile and fade away into the aircraft. Since that first night shift I have never been the same. It effects all of us who work here on the day to day. Some staff report they saw him in other places around the museum, namely in the Gnat training aircraft. The Lincoln did not serve in WW2. The war was over before it was in service. It served in Kenya during the Mau Mau Emergency in the early 1950's. I was living there as a 12 year old and got to look over one. It was basically a Lancaster but with Griffin engines. Incidentally, they killed a lot of wild game which ended up as food for the Mau Mau.!!

I worked at a large warehouse before. We use to hear strange noises once it goes dark. At first it was terrifying, then the sound just became routinary every night. Turns out it was metal cooling and contracting when the weather turns cold and rubbing on its supports
I used to be there in the late 1980s to early 1990s me my dad and uncle used to look after a Vickers Varsity there. And we did see some very strange encounters there after the public had gone home with this aircraft you mention as well as other stuff. We also worked on the Catalina sometimes too.
I've got a photo of the Lincoln's cockpit and I've had a closer inspection. I saw a translucent figure sitting in the pilot's seat wearing flying uniform. Me and my mate were shaking and couldn't get some sleep later on during the night. I think its the person who died in that plane accident you said in the video.
Don't know how true it is but Grandad said he chased Soviet subs in his Lincoln around the time of the Malayan Conflict when he was flying for the RAAF.
@@MarkFeltonProductions At that time Cosford was a seperate entity to Hendon, although it was run by them. Manchester Air and Space museum was just opening and they wanted an Avro aircraft. Cosford had a few Shackletons for training purposes that were coming up for disposal, but Hendon offered them the Lincoln. Being part of the maintenance crew, we knew that she would have problems with transportation due to not being fully bolted together correctly, and she deserved her place at Cosford. So a few strange things were rumoured to have happened. Some members of staff were spooked in the dark deserted hangar. The only thing was, the hangar could be entered by anyone who knew how to, even if the external doors and windows were locked. Hiding places were also available in the Lincoln and the TSR2 rear fuselage amongst others. Anyway, the story ended up in Canada and Australia and the publicity from that changed Hendon's mind and a Shackleton went to Manchester and RF398 stayed at Cosford
I beleive in that some of these old aeroplanes have a soul of sorts, I have seen this in old C47 once used by the US Air force which hadnt flown for 50 odd years gave me the creeps when I went into the cockpit. I have heard other stories about aeroplanes being haunted when you consider the things they might have witnessed. It wasnt unusual for a bomber to return from a raid with damage be repaired then be back flying the next day even though it may have had air crew that had been killed in it previously. I dont know if this is where the superstition air crews used to have originates from. The creepiest thing I have encountered was being in old boat builders which once built spitfires during the war. I used to have to lock the place up at night and couldnt wait to get out of there. I found out sometime later that they would build spitfires in this factory right up until when the german bombers where approaching the city then they would go to the bomb shelters at the last minute. Some of the workers left it too late and were killed. Not a nice feeling being there at all. I did some research on this Lincoln and found out its original tail wheel had been swapped to replace a damaged one on a Lancaster. I have heard stories about parts being swapped out from other planes bringing bad luck with them especially if the the parts came from a damaged or crashed aircraft. I think this happened with parts that taken from a crashed tri-star which were put into others in service and continually those aircraft had loads of problems after as well as bringing with it apparitions of the deceased from the tri-star crash.
There a haunted C47 in America... it's haunted by the navigator who flew in her from d day till wars end... he died well after ww2.... he just likes being on his old plane!
Ah, RAF Cosford, is where I joined up in the RAF as a Boy Entrant (now obsolete) near Wolverhamton in Sept. 1961 for 18 months training, and 12 years service, and demobbed in Dec. 1975. Back then we had a few exhibits in one of the hangars, and some I remember were a V1, Japanese Zero, ME410 and a few others I can't remember now. Plus not being fenced off, we could get up close and personal with them, but not get inside though. I would love to be able to go back and visit, and see all the changes, but I need to win the Lottery first....:) On a different note, I was also stationed at RAF Hendon near Colindale, when the museum was being built, and saw the Transport Command Blackburn Beverly landing on the airfield I think in about 1968 to go into storage and then museum. The airfield I think was closed after that, and later a housing estate was built on it. It also gave me the chance to have a good wander around the inside of a Sunderland Flying Boat during its restoration, so of course I had to sit in the cockpit, and gunners turrets. It's all right, the blokes working there allowed me inside, as they were working on the outside of the aircraft....:) In another part of the hangar in a corner, was just the center section of a Spitfire (no engine, fuselage, or wings) so I just had to climb into it, and pretend I was 'Biggles'.....yes, I was childish.....:) Anyway, apart from that, another excellent video, and very informative too, even with the spooky quick bursts of background sounds, as this story is news to me.
Something I'd be interested to test - their machine recorded the sound of that navigation device, one which they said there haven't been any operational of in many years. Try turning on the one in that plane, see if it comes to life, see if it's able to make that sound. Whether or not it's operable would be an interesting data point.
Imagine you go back and theres a huge hole in the hangar and the planes gone, next day you get word that a ww2 bomber just dropped bombs on german car factories

This plane was on a tv show sometime in the 90’s. They put audio recording in it and all night switches were flipping

At 00:31, what is the yellow/purple aircraft below the V2? It appears to have two missiles mounted on it.

@@MarkFeltonProductions At that time Cosford was a seperate entity to Hendon, although it was run by them. Manchester Air and Space museum was just opening and they wanted an Avro aircraft. Cosford had a few Shackletons for training purposes that were coming up for disposal, but Hendon offered them the Lincoln.
Being part of the maintenance crew, we knew that she would have problems with transportation due to not being fully bolted together correctly, and she deserved her place at Cosford. So a few strange things were rumoured to have happened. Some members of staff were spooked in the dark deserted hangar. The only thing was, the hangar could be entered by anyone who knew how to, even if the external doors and windows were locked. Hiding places were also available in the Lincoln and the TSR2 rear fuselage amongst others. Anyway, the story ended up in Canada and Australia and the publicity from that changed Hendon's mind and a Shackleton went to Manchester and RF398 stayed at Cosford

The second sound was very similar to top gun on the nes... When you land the aircraft..... I's almost say exactly the same from memory.
I beleive in that some of these old aeroplanes have a soul of sorts, I have seen this in old C47 once used by the US Air force which hadnt flown for 50 odd years gave me the creeps when I went into the cockpit. I have heard other stories about aeroplanes being haunted when you consider the things they might have witnessed. It wasnt unusual for a bomber to return from a raid with damage be repaired then be back flying the next day even though it may have had air crew that had been killed in it previously. I dont know if this is where the superstition air crews used to have originates from. The creepiest thing I have encountered was being in old boat builders which once built spitfires during the war. I used to have to lock the place up at night and couldnt wait to get out of there. I found out sometime later that they would build spitfires in this factory right up until when the german bombers where approaching the city then they would go to the bomb shelters at the last minute. Some of the workers left it too late and were killed. Not a nice feeling being there at all. I did some research on this Lincoln and found out its original tail wheel had been swapped to replace a damaged one on a Lancaster. I have heard stories about parts being swapped out from other planes bringing bad luck with them especially if the the parts came from a damaged or crashed aircraft. I think this happened with parts that taken from a crashed tri-star which were put into others in service and continually those aircraft had loads of problems after as well as bringing with it apparitions of the deceased from the tri-star crash.
There a haunted C47 in America... it's haunted by the navigator who flew in her from d day till wars end... he died well after ww2.... he just likes being on his old plane!
Ah, RAF Cosford, is where I joined up in the RAF as a Boy Entrant (now obsolete) near Wolverhamton in Sept. 1961 for 18 months training, and 12 years service, and demobbed in Dec. 1975.
Back then we had a few exhibits in one of the hangars, and some I remember were a V1, Japanese Zero, ME410 and a few others I can't remember now. Plus not being fenced off, we could get up close and personal with them, but not get inside though.
I would love to be able to go back and visit, and see all the changes, but I need to win the Lottery first....:)
On a different note, I was also stationed at RAF Hendon near Colindale, when the museum was being built, and saw the Transport Command Blackburn Beverly landing on the airfield I think in about 1968 to go into storage and then museum.
The airfield I think was closed after that, and later a housing estate was built on it.
It also gave me the chance to have a good wander around the inside of a Sunderland Flying Boat during its restoration, so of course I had to sit in the cockpit, and gunners turrets. It's all right, the blokes working there allowed me inside, as they were working on the outside of the aircraft....:)
In another part of the hangar in a corner, was just the center section of a Spitfire (no engine, fuselage, or wings) so I just had to climb into it, and pretend I was 'Biggles'.....yes, I was childish.....:)
Anyway, apart from that, another excellent video, and very informative too, even with the spooky quick bursts of background sounds, as this story is news to me.

There was also a radio 4 program made in this bomber - 2 men spent the night in it and saw some weird stuff.

Something I'd be interested to test - their machine recorded the sound of that navigation device, one which they said there haven't been any operational of in many years. Try turning on the one in that plane, see if it comes to life, see if it's able to make that sound. Whether or not it's operable would be an interesting data point.

Imagine you go back and theres a huge hole in the hangar and the planes gone, next day you get word that a ww2 bomber just dropped bombs on german car factories
