"Hmmm. Let's take the hardest level from the first game, make it harder, and bring it back!" "How do we make something that hard harder? It's already got a time limit, dark matter under shrinking platforms and no walls around the edges." "Good question. Any ideas?" "LET'S MAKE CLONED MARIOS OR LUIGIS CHASE THEM THROUGH THE LEVEL FOLLOWING THEIR EXACT MOVES!!!!"
The time limit here is barely a factor since the clones basically force you to keep moving non-stop. The layout of the level, the danger of accidentally removing a safe path back to the star, and the constant threat of the clones who will punish you for moving clumsily or double-backing are more than enough to make this one of the most vile (and therefore, satisfying) stars in the game.
I love how that sign tells u "USE D-PAD TO LOOK AROUND"....yeah....dont really have the TIME right now!!! This challenge was really tough but man...it was so satisfying to beat this.
The biggest thing is not to panic. Pretend the Cosmic Clones are not even there, because the shrinking platforms means you need to keep moving and never step on the same place twice anyway.
I actually prefer to deal with the Cosmic Clones as opposed to having to win races against Cosmic Mario/Luigi... Which is one (of many) reasons why I prefer Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Super Mario Galaxy 1.
+SuperSonicFan411 This takes careful planning. Like a way/method of approach. You have to take those shadow marios into consideration, along with the disappearing platforms, the 'exact' coin amount and even the given time limit, in order to succeed. It didn't take me that many tries, but I did it for my first time, today.
As a guy who played the second one before the first one I can honestly say that the second one was so much harder. The only worse thing that SMG1 had was spinning platforms that can be avoided with a spin-jump. This one has less time, cosmic clones, and you have to collect 100 out of 100 instead of 100 out of 150. Plus I think this one had more areas with poison
You’re so wrong. I don’t even care that this comment is 11 years old, you’re just wrong here in every way imaginable. The timer and cosmic clones in this star are much less of a threat than they initially seem because they disappear when all 100 coins are collected, and the disappearing platforms force you to keep moving from place to place so you’re not likely to get hit by a clone unless you’re just standing still. In the first Mario Galaxy the yellow platforms rotated on top of the green platforms disappearing, and the timer didn’t stop when you collected 100 coins, so on top of being an already difficult star, the act of collecting the star itself was a whole other challenge that forced you to be quick and plan your route/movement very carefully. As someone who played that level first, Mario Galaxy 2’s star was way easier.
This is harder than the original version IMO. The inclusion of cosmic clones as well as the fact that you have to collect every single coin are more of a hassle to deal with for me than the flipping platforms. I have to be a lot more thoughtful with my maneuvers here. That being said, I still find both Luigi's purple coins stars more fun than hard. It takes me 5 tries max to beat each of them.
no? if your going off the fact that its a timed purple coin mission which is 1 comet by itself and it also being cosmic clones then puzzle plank is also on here then along with a few others
Jeremy Mansbach Oh I forgot this level actually existed in Mario Galaxy 2 while the other one, I remember the best from Mario Galaxy 1. That was the hardest level in the first game.
Yeah they give you 150 coins or something like that and you need to only get 100. If you had to get all of them, it would be virtually impossible though.
@@kalsizzle the yellow tiles here are normal ground but in original were rotating tiles and this outweights clearly the shadow Mario. Also, altough you have a larger pull of coins, you have to make more hard jumps. Galaxy 2's level is more focused on having a good route, while in the first you also need a good execution
@@DannyYankou getting 150 in the first version is actually doable. I’ve done it with both Mario and Luigi. It becomes easy if you’re good with the games movement and camera moving. Once you can do 150 the next thing is to to see how fast you can do it. My fastest time is doing it in 2minutes out if 3minutes.
I dunno why people say this one was easier. I feel like one of the few that found it WAY harder. Only because of the fact that there are loads of Shadow Clones constantly stalking you so you can't even stop and think for a second. Also, in the other one there were 150 so you could miss 1/3 of them and still get the star.
Ok, let me get this straight. Poison Water, tiles that disappear, and Cosmic Clones! You gotta be joking on this one Nintendo! But at least the yellow tiles don't flip like in the Toy Time Galaxy.
Wow! You rock. That was a great route you took. This star wasn't too bad - got it after a couple tries, but I only had one second to spare! I think the rotating platforms made this star a lot harder in the first SM Galaxy.

This was pretty damn hard. I finally beat it and was standing on the platform next to the star. I was so happy that I forgot the platform I was on was disappearing, so I died. Then it took me a few more until I beat it with 0 lives left. So satisfying!
This to me looks easier than the original mainly bc the yellow platforms are moving. Of course there's not an xtra 50 coins strewn about though. Cosmic clones, eh, just keep running and don't backtrack too much
I think both levels are similar in terms of difficulty. I played the second one first and it took me A LOT of tries whereas the first one took me a bit over 20 (which is bad but nothing compared to the Galaxy 2 one, which took me about twice as much). The hardest part in the 1st one is the spinning platforms and the hardest part of the 2nd one is that you have to get every single coin.
Would've been even more obnoxious if the yellow platforms still spun, and if you still were timed on getting back to the star after getting your coins. Would've made the level feel even scarier than lessening the time and adding cosmic clones. @_@ The combination of everything would've been hell imo.
This was a lot easier than the original Luigi's purple coins from Super Mario Galaxy 1( i completed it on the first try). First of all, here the yellow platforms are fixed, while in SMG1 they could flip and rotate and when you had got all 100 coins the timer did not stop!!!! i remember this lvl. One time I got all the 100 coins and the star appeared, but the platform i was standing on was still shrinking during the transition...AND I FELL TO MY DEATH!!! ;_;
I wonder what Luigi's outline looks like after you've completed the course and all those green platforms have disappeared.
Esta puta estrella fue la que mas me costo pasar, deje de jugar un año este juego por lo difícil que era, un día me metí para intentarlo de nuevo y lo pase enseguida
NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I TINK IM GONNA SCREAM ITS 2 IN DA MORNIN I NEED 2 BEAT DIS LEVEL 99 PURPLE COINS THE LAST 1 HAS NO GREEN SQUARE BELOW IT :#
This is acually kinda hard. It wouldn't be so hard if it weren't for those DAMN COSMIC CLONES.
Nintendo... u just made me cry Blood... it is not worse enough that u brought back this mission but take off 1 minute and 50 coins AND give u obstacles... this is going 2 be again... my worse nightmare *starts shivering*
you make it look so easy, i don't no how i would go lol, i struggled enough with the similar level in super mario galaxy.
Oh yeah. That too. They also seem to have removed 50 of the coins. There used to be 150 if I remember right.
beat this one in 1 try, the SMG1 original in 2. i like these kinds of levels that force you to be good at game mechanics and the cosmic clones are a nice touch. I think the new version is harder tho...i think i was just better at the game at that point
@Overhazard Oh no, I reached it, I just couldn't beat this level. I beat the normal Mario Squared, but I can't beat the prankster comet.
I have been stuck on this level for over 2 years now. -.- The closest i got was 99/100 and i was about to get to the end and the time ran out.
Did this on my third try. My heart was racing!
Not to mention 2 minutes instead of 3. In SMG1, the time limit was a joke.
I fucking hate this level with a passion
This was the only mission that I had to use the cosmic rosalina thing!
damn you made that look easy
While I didn't really like this stage, I didn't hate it either. It was a stand out for me, though and all things considered, things could have been much worse. I'm thankful for having the yellow platforms.
Im just gonna say it: This one is so much harder than luigis purple coins from the first game.
@Overhazard I believe the keyboard is used for the main controls, while the mouse is used for pointing at the screen, but I believe you could modify the sensor bar so it attaches to a usb port or something.
