Teaching people self dependency could be the best thing leaders do that helps them grow as individuals.
These are strategies we've starting implementing within our organization, its still pretty shaky at times but slowly we see a change in the workers and the organization itself

I'm fairly sure he has said this elsewhere, but another reason people don't rise to the occasion when we give them responsibility is that we don't also give them the authority that needs to accompany the responsibility. I was in a situation where I was frequently told to get something done but I was placed in a group of peers and given zero authority over tasks that were impossible to accomplish by myself. Yet only I was held accountable. It was a government job, I'll never work for the government again.

Successful leadership doesn't emerge from a singular vision of how things should be done - from an "expert." Successful leadership requires a diversity of opinions, asking questions, working as a team, and asking for help - this allows everyone to contribute to a shared vision for the future. Thanks for sharing!

Being a better leader requires continuous growth and learning. It's important to be self-aware, communicate effectively, and inspire those around you. By leading with integrity, empathy, and humility, you can build trust and respect with your team. Take the time to reflect on your leadership style, seek feedback, and invest in your personal and professional development. By prioritizing your growth as a leader, you can create a positive impact on those you lead.

The last portion there is key. "Many times people don't take responsibility is because you don't give it to them". This is a tough line to draw, but it must be drawn. Is Bob ready to take this on or should I spoon feed the answer I already know? Letting people stumble and figure out things on their own is painful, but you can always be there to pull them back up or steer the ship back on course.

    Simon,
I heard one of your presentation how middle managers is a tough job. If the higher bosses always talk about Quarterly earnings? How would you function as a strong leader? No matter how much one tries, people going to start leaving, morale would be down since company culture does matter. I think the best option is to quit

The point about bringing in a junior individual as part of a team and treating them as an equal. Is it really galvanising for that person and it fosters trust in an organisation or team

  • @R.videocassette

Reality is that our boss never wants us to do better than him, because if we learn and grow then his/her position will be in danger, maybe job too. That's why they never teach us how to become a leader in a company. Also boss will always cry and tell you his story of how he got that position, and says it is not easy to become a manager or leader, i had done this and that...

Maybe I am the only one, but I disagree with his accountability idea. As a leader you have to show direction when you think someone is lost. Most of the times, someone will come to you for help after they have exhausted all the avenues, so driving them away by not providing them an answer is a bad idea. Sometimes you can do what Simon is asking, but it can be a terrible decision in other situations. There's no static rule that works for all (don't answer the question), life is dynamic and that's the beauty. Hey boss, which project should I prioritize between these two? Hey boss, there are two incidents in progress, can I get additional head to help me out? ...You got to answer those.

This is a trend amongst a ton of motivational speakers in last 20yrs. They speak as if there are almost no hurdles in life including kids, health and other things...Exercise for 1st hr after waking up, don't touch the mobile in first hour of the morning, blah blah blah. They have either no kids or no idea how real world life is.

    • @DS-cf1zc

@@nimageofmine I am a fan of Simons work, but you are right, there are occasions where he veers into oddly less realistic territory.
I also watch the Daily Stoic, and Ryan Holiday makes similar points, but does indicate that they are not always possible all the time, and that for some people it would present a challenge. So at least acknowledges the realities of the wider world.

"Become a student of leadership" Great advice and commission.
How to DISCOVER and live your life's highest PURPOSE
👉 Self -actualization - You have to want to discover it
👉 Find your greatest source of inspiration and energy. You already attain it. it's either 1 of the 5 - Physical, emotional, Intellectual, Social or Spiritual
👉 Turn your MESS into your MESSage - Take some of your greatest mistakes and failures, learn from them and press into them
👉 Take personal inventory - Sometimes we need to add things and learn things and sometimes we need to discard the things that are blocking us from reaching highest Purpose.
👉 Be of service - We see how our experience can benefit others. Acts of service be the quickest way to finding and living your purpose.
