    Terry is sooooooo funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love how he chastises us for bad Adobe behavior. But actually it’s very effective. Because it sears into our brains WHAT are the best practices! So I don’t mind him yelling at us - I like it. Helps me really understand the magnitude of the mistake. That’s why I value his wisdom. In fact, it was through watching Terry’s tutorials that I made the decision to purchase InDesign AND Photoshop!

    Hey Terry, watched video. The Iceland error happened when you were going to import. You created Iceland subfolder in Travel, but didn't hit enter, before hitting import therefore sending the imports loose to travel. Your fix after was good to show us what to do if we make the same mistake. Also is it safe to say, the photos in collections are basically shortcuts to their folders of orgins?

    Thanks Terry, my only solution is to start right over with my filing of Photo's in/on my computer, I just file photo's anywhere and therefore I sit with one hell of a problem. Only after I'm done with this, I can start do it accordingly in LrC. Thanks for your Guidance.

    I use the PC version of LRC. I don't even bother with catalogs. Every photo shoot I take I dump all the RAW images in one folder on a different drive other than the "C" drive and name it. When I complete my post production on those RAW images I create a folder inside the RAW image folder and export those RAW images as JPG's into that folder. When I'm done I go to the picture folder of Windows 10 (in the "C" drive) and delete the catalog folder that is created and stored in the picture folder. I repeat the process on other RAW image photoshoot's that I made. Don't want to deal with too many catalogs in the "C" drive that would fill up the "C" drive.

    Excellent video. I just purchased a new Apple Mac Studio computer and downloaded LR Classic and PS for the first time. I have about 16,000 images I need to get into LR. My images are stored in both the Pictures folder in Finder on the new Mac and on an external hard drive. I have all my images under a master folder (i.e. Jim’s images) with subfolders by location under it. My question is, how do I get all these images into LR for the first time. If I follow your video it seems I could drag the “Jim’s Images” master file directly onto the LRc icon, but because of the file size can I add the master folder and all the sub folders all at the same time. Most of my images are JPEGs.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    thanks for this great tutorial - I wish I had watched this before I started working with LR!! I have a question for you, and I 'm HOPING you will be able to help recover the processing i've done in LR around 5 years ago. I had processed photos in LR on my hard drive, and than moved folders off my HD (because I was running out of space). Shouldn't greyed out sub-folders still have existed in LR? I"m trying to recover my processed files, and consolidate my library in a 12 TB hard drive. However, in LR, I no longer see those greyed out folders. Is there any way to recover the history of those processed folders? I did save backups of my LR room catalog files on my external hard drive.

    I do have my photos on the Mac desktop in two folders each has its own catalogue. I do make backups onto two separate hard drives. Do you recommend to move them onto Photos where they will be backed-up regularly on top of my manual backing-up ? With Lrc's recent upgrade I had to allow access to my desktop folders, why and how can I undo this option? Thank you

  • @monicab28
    @monicab28 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So many questions! Why do you have to back up every single day? When you say the catalog has to reside on the drive, do you mean right on the computer and not on an external HD?

    • @TerryLeeWhite
      @TerryLeeWhite  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      To recap what I said: the catalog can be on EITHER the internal drive or an external drive connected directly to the computer and NOT a network drive. I recommend backing up what you don't want to lose. If you don't add new photos everyday, then you may not need to backup every day. Your comfort level of what you can afford to lose is up to you. Backup accordingly.

    Thanks Terry this is so useful. I have found however that I can't transfer my file structure in the way you did unless it has images in it (which my structure didn't have). Am I doing something wrong?

    • @TerryLeeWhite
      @TerryLeeWhite  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in order to copy a structure into LrC there has to be at least one image in each folder.

    Thanks, Terry, for this class however, it does not matter what I do I CANNOT see the images on the folder I want. I tried the forum but, no one can really answer this question.
    I'm so frustrated with trying to import images into Lightroom that I'm so ready to switch to Capture One Pro, ON1 or Skylum Luminar 4.
    From library:
    -I select the source
    -Import Photos and Videos.
    -Destination: (I create a new sub folder on the destination folder)
    - I make sure that Don't Import Selected Files is checked (It doesn't matter if it is selected or not)
    -Click import........
    The system takes a while, it shows the images blah, blah, blah NOTHING!!!!!!!
    I can see all the images grayed out. Nothing has been imported.
    Then I go through the ever annoying steps to see if, they are the right file or, synchronize the folder or, optimize the catalog or, select all or new images or, uninstall - re-install the LR. Jeez!
    After WASTING time trying to save my images from a SD card to my computer using LR, I end up using Bridge to copy those images to my destination folder. But, of course. LR doesn't know how to deal with that, and then nothing really works. Now I have lots of duplicate images everywhere! Oh, and the software keeps making subfolders with dates that are redundant because I'm trying to import into a folder that was named after that date (2022)
    Is there a FAIL PROOF way to import those images and not having LR screw up. Or, is there a way for LR to be able to open the images after being imported using a more reliable method like Bridge or operating system!?
    I use a Windows 11
    The latest version of LR CC (11.3.1) NOT the cloud version.
    Cache has been cleared, Uninstalled and Installed twice, the destination drive has plenty of space for the images, don't import copies has been tried with and without the check mark.
    What am I doing wrong with this software?! I followed all the steps you outline. It worked with some folders, but not with some?!
    Thanks in advance for your help.
