- What's up everyone and happy Sunday.
I had a request to demo this pedal and I asked Guillaume if he could send over the VEJ 1 for me to demo. The pedal is based on the popular Ampeg VH140C.
Now this took me a while to figure out how to use the pedal since Death Metal isn't a genre I typically play. I looked through my pedal collection to see if I could give it a little boost. I think it worked out very well.

It's a fun unique drive to use as a preamp. I like to boost it with P's Garbage Drive or an Airis Savage Drive v5, more girth n thud.

@@phillramirez8323 thanks man. Yeah I’ve been experimenting alot with preamp pedals from Guptech. Both the VEJ 3 and VEJ 5 are great although i prefer the VEJ 4 which has more gain on tap.

I have to admit that as an owner of a 1996 vh140c head, this is rather disappointing to have to do so much to get the tone. The amp head sounds perfect with everything at 12 o' clock and I never had to push the master volume past 4. I scaled down to a headrush rig a few years back and miss the ampeg tone immensely. Sure I can lug the head around and run it thru an ir on the headrush but it's counterintuitive at this point. It seems only the snk vhd is doing this head pedal right and I can't get my hands on one. The spirytus is close but needs external eq which is at least more doable.
I may buy this and see what the headrush can do with it. Thanks for the review!

I got the pedal a few months ago and I was a bit disappointed tbh, I thought maybe it was defective like another comment mentioned, and I was waiting for someone to show a video how to get a better DM tone from it, so thank you. I am gonna try a boost in front 🤟🏻
Thankfully Guptech was kind enough to send this out for me to experiment with as I did not know how I was going to present it. I got the idea of boosting the preamp after watching Ola boosting the Randall preamps so i figured it would work the same. I'm glad this video was able to reach you in time dude.
Just got this pedal with the Grindr from Guo tech, out of the box the stack shredded my ears, super high end,need to get them dialed in
I would have genuinely thought that pedal is defective if I heard it sounding like that by itself, but it's really sick with the stacked boosts
I think this would sound better through an amp as Guillaume does in his vids. But as a pedalboard channel it was awesome to show what stacked pedals can do.
