Honestly, any Steelers fan who was wide awake the last 2 seasons knows the deep ball accuracy Wilson brings is a HUGE upgrade. I watched quite a bit of other channels that do film analysis, and the one thing that stood out for me was that the mistakes Pickett made were not what NFL caliber QBs should be making after 2 years. Accuracy was one of the big ones! As a very dedicated Steelers fan, I don't care how old Wilson is - this really was the best option to get past problems RIGHT NOW!!

I think Russ will be in Pittsburgh for 3 or 4 years easily as he is far from done! This should be a whole lot of fun watching Russ with Artie's power run game and the play action that comes off of it! As the scouts said in the baseball movie The Rookie about the late 30's year old pitcher trying out, "Ain't nothing wrong with that one right there after he threw a 97 mph pitch", Russ still has a cannon!

Seahawks fan here Russ has the ability to throw over the middle of the field but he's played in a Pete Carroll offense who priotize keeping the ball safe. Not saying the guy is Drew Brees but I think he's just conditioned to protect the ball and when you have a great defense you should abosulutly do that. A big thing I think Denver reciever struggled with was the scramble drill stuff it felt like they never were on the same page. Meanwhile you hear Dk talk and if he's running a route he knows at some point to just go get open. It would help if the steelers could bring someone he had some form of trust level and chemistry in. Some names that could be good for this as a WR3 or WR4 David Moore, Malik Turner, and Freddie Swain.

Russ deep ball is honestly legendary. He’s good enough to win the Super Bowl if you can get him to stop taking dumb sacks.

Assuming the Steelers draft a QB in a later round, they will be paying the QB room less than 5 million…with cap space enough to sign an elite LB - Queen. Wow!! Great video, dude!
I'm certainly no expert, but your film evaluation is phenomenal. You really seem to know your stuff.
I definitely have a much better idea of what to expect from Russell Wilson this season.
As a Steelers fan myself, I hope the Steelers try to build the offense around his strengths, and minimize the weaknesses as much as possible. Trying to change the way he plays would most likely not work at this point in his career.
I'm very hopeful that our offense is going to be significantly improved from last season. The defense should be fantastic. Love the addition of Patrick Queen. Getting Jackson and Elliott were good pickups, as well.

Hey DB I look at it like this. They signed him cheap so they can still add a ton in free agency and continue to surround talent and upgrade positions. Also if he brings the production he had a season ago to Pittsburgh with the defense they have they can make a playoff run. Russ not using the middle is concerning but I think that can be improved. I see it as a no risk high reward scenario. He could be the perfect bridge until we find a young guy in the draft.

    • @choosecarefully408
      @choosecarefully408 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@s.i.rschwertz9154 That's just it. Does anyone think Sean Payton didn't _try?_ Payton doesn't take to losing. so for him to try & tell his employers to eat that much $ is a big kick in his ego as well. I'm not saying he's perfect. He _did do_ a little of that impatient parent thing & call plays designed to force Russ to have to change, which isn't the same thing as helping him achieve it. I imagine having not had this problem with Brees didn't make him patient.
But the fact is we Have Footage Of Russ looking at the ground &/or away from receivers in the middle of the field or heading there & I *guarantee you* those things weren't Payton's doing. Now here's a chunk I don't expect anyone here to know.
Russ has led the NFL in passes behind the line of scrimmage for *five straight years.* He's also been bottom or near it in explosive plays.
The two are connected. Everything came to a head in Denver because I think Carroll was aware of the problems for a _LONG_ time & kept them hidden so very well, but either Russ wasn't aware of this or he didn't want to tell anyone in Denver about it. The lack of explosive plays are *because* he chucks it behind the LOS so often. He does this so often because when in the pocket, he _can't see_ over the o-line.
What it leads to is plays 4 yards or less very often on 1st & 2nd downs. This makes 3rd & long which defenses know is a pass. So Russ' weaknesses are sustaining drives. Many of his TDs last season came off of short fields caused by the defense getting TOs.
So while he has the élite talent for the long ball, he can't get to mid-field. All his success is dependent on starting on the other side of the field.
That a _HUGE_ problem. Yeah, he & Pickens likely can connect on those long plays. Now tell me what team in this division you think is going to give up 5 or more of those a game? In order to get this to work with Russ, Smith is gonna have to be patient & not handle him like a veteran. He has to force-feed him *nothing but* plays that _require him_ to throw over the middle, then figure out what facets of those plays he can tweak better or not.
But to be perfectly honest, I don't think it's gonna work. It feels like Russ again is unaware what the problem is or refuses to discuss it, & the coaches are afraid to push him. Out of respect, sure. But maybe Russ _needs_ a swift kick in the butt?
Some people do better when someone else takes control.

When Russ went to Broncos I watched and started rooting for several teams whose quarterbacks got traded and excelled again. Unfortunately Broncos are plagued with issues for years now, like other teams that release people every year with no gelling into a team.

This is what all the naysayers and doubters: Nick at first take, Shannon, Acho, etc.. are missing: Russ simply makes throws that our previous QBs for the past 2 to 3 years could NOT or would NOT make. Watch Pickens explode in this offense and watch what this does for the running game, with defenses knowing that can't load up in the box to negate Harris or Warren.

Russel Wilson will improve to scoring offense by a TD per game at a minimum to 25 points per game, which will make them 8th in the NFL i.a.w 2023 ranking. So, a Top 10 Defense with a Top 10 Offense. You did a wonderful job of highlighting how great those throws were, but he's the one forcing himself to make those great throws instead of taking the easier completion(in many cases to the same receiver earlier) and letting them work in the open field.

I really don’t understand the narrative that “Russel was so bad that Broncos would rather pay him rather than be on the team” they were the one of hottest teams last year coming from 1-5 to 6-5 when they tried to renegotiate the contract idc who you are that would take the wind out of anyone’s sails. Are yall seriously going to argue that if Mahomes started playing badly after KC asked him to lower his salary is somehow indicative of Mahomes being washed???

Folks don't remember big Ben and Russell basically play the same way. Both prolong plays and both throw the deep ball at a top tier level. Tomlin loves Russell. As long as Russ stays healthy we got our qb for the next 5-7 years.

At least 3-4 but I could see more. Crazy to think that we went from a QB with 8.5'" hands to a guy with 10.5" hands. Weather will not be any issue for Russ in the AFCN!

DB I really think Payton wanted him to fail because Russ had 11 TDs and 0 INTERCEPTIONS when using play action with a passer rating of 118. Payton knew this and would not call plays to his QBs strength. Hmmm

22nd in usage is weird and not a good idea w Russ.

Absolutely the truth...Bronco fan here. Payton did not play to Russ's strengths. Not much play action and very little RP0"s. Payton's ego got the best of him!
