Hey DB, I’m thinking that we get two WR in off-season, one FA and another in the draft. I agree with you that we don’t re-sign Smith or Ogunjobi and draft DL with 1st pick. What would be best DL pick? What are the best 2nd/3rd round WR?

Honestly, Realistically, Optimistically… I think Fields is the guy. I think you invest in him like the Eagles invested in Hurts and Moneyball the team. Justin has the traits to be like the Steelers version of a Hurts and Lamar in a modern NFL offense. The Steelers have an opportunity to leap into the modern NFL and run an offense similar to the eagles and ravens with Fields. The Steelers won’t lose enough games to get the top QB prospects in 2026 so I say make lemonade. That’s where you want to be. I believe in Justin and he had a ton of plays this year that got wiped from penalties and poor offensive line play. The tape shows growth and maturity in his game and I thought he was getting better before getting pulled for Russ. I believe in Justin and I think it’s wise to build around him and develop his confidence and leverage his skillset. It could be amazing IMO.

Najee Harris, Cam Sutton, Larry Ogunjobi and Van Jefferson will all get cut. But additionally I would like to trade Minkah. I also think we are going to keep both JF and Russ for at least one more year.

George Pickens is a dynamic player, but he's also a dynamic butthead. I believe you are correct about him being traded, but then Mike Tomlin might not do the right thing.

Last year there was some talk about the areas that the Steelers needed to improve, and D-line was one of them. But when the opportunity arrived, the talk and the action petered-out. They did good an inside linebacker, and made an effort to patch together a half-way competent QB room, but when it came to the Big Uglies on the D-line, the silence was deafening. Do you think that they will do something to correct that? As far as the QB situation, I think the best they can do is bring-in somebody who is a QB whisperer and have Justin Fields give it a shot. Russell Wilson ain't growing any taller, and the middle ain't getting more use. Ride-on, Russ!

I still think this season was an overachievement. I expected us to be under .500 and was surprised by Fields going 4-2 and then Russ improving on that in the middle stretch. I don't think its a good idea to start a rebuild. We're just coming out of missing on a couple first round picks. I know everyone's down on Coach but I really think he dragged this team kicking and screaming to 10 wins. The offense is not playoff caliber and the biggest hole is of course QB. It's important to not get desperate and waste another first round pick. If a QB isn't there, you have to be willing to wait until next year and add talent to fill the other holes. A miss on a QB is basically a 2-3 year stallout because we all know this team is too conservative to cut a QB loose after 1 year.

The only thing that makes sense from a QB standpoint is to bring back Justin Fields on a 2 year prove it deal. He has not had a consistent offense since joining NFL and think he at least has the tools to be very good. R Wilson is NOT the answer. The fact that (as the commentators noted) he is a mess once he comes off his first read tells me he is the antithesis of a savvy veteran QB. How are you a 10+ year NFL veteran and yet cannot go through your progressions? As bad as the OL has been, a number of their sacks is on Wilson.... he panics and bails on perfectly good pockets, leading to sacks that would not have happened. Also, he cannot through to the middle of the field. People blame it on his height but you do not see those limitations with Kyle Murray or Bryce Young (or at least the current version of Young).

JF is the steelers QB, all he needs is time and trust, There honestly is no better option

DB, the main point is that everyone should realize that we won't make it out of the stalemate that we are in until we absolutely have that guy at QB. Not an aging guy, not someone else's castoff that hasn't proven himself yet, but our own drafted high end player. Or if someone else's guy, he better be a guy at the moment. When a team has to game plan first for your QB, you are well on your way to at least having something. Teams weren't game planning for any of our QBs since Ben retired. Fields gives them the most to have to think about, but he is still trying to establish himself as a decent QB. And I like Fields. But every SB winning QB, aside from Foles, has been a franchise changing QB for their team. All of the teams in the playoffs have a franchise QB, even Baker as a slight castoff from the Browns. We were definitely at the bottom of the list as far as QBs go for the playoffs. The model of winning with defense is our Steelers longtime philosophy and I think part of our flatline is holding on to that motto without wanting to be a part of the new age NFL. It's kind of like changing the ingredients in something you have been making all your life. The fan base would recognize a change if we went all offense and then they would be screaming where is the Steel Curtain, so we have resisted making that change. It's like the new NBA, every team has 3 point shooters now. We have long needed to adapt, but not addressing an aging Ben was an issue. We went 6-10 before being able to draft Ben the next year. We haven't been that bad since. That's not Tomlin's fault. But I wonder if hadn't gotten all that he did out of the Rudolph/Hodges combo season and actually had a poor record of we could have thrown our name in the year Burrow and Herbert came out. That would have been a game changer. But that is Tomlin's fault too for not losing apparently to many fans and media. I just don't get it. You need the QB, and we have not had ourselves in a position to do that. It's draft one, and I'm not talking about at 20, but getting a top 10 QB, or trading for an established high end QB. We just haven't done either.

I think Cam should consider retiring early or we should trade him to KC. If Cam is only playing to get a ring he should just quit now cause the Steelers aren’t winning one any time soon. Cam retiring early would put a very bad taste in tomlins mouth and maybe that might change something.

I think the Rooney’s need to give tomlin one last chance. Let him finish his last year with a competent DC and O Line coach. Let Arthur smith have a second year to scheme something up for Fields and go from there.

This franchise is just as mediocre as the cowboys. We’re no different than them. In fact the cowboys have been better than us the past 10 years which is sad.

In general, I would say the 2025 QB, WR, RB, and TE positions are big questions as of right now. Najee and Russ could stay or go, but Pickens and Friermuth should be considered for trades/cuts. No more excuses for not showing up, running poor routes that fall short of the sticks. They've performed poorly in big games. Defense needs an overhaul. Waaay overpaid. We need offense. Thats where division is going, league too.

Trade TJ / Minkah / Pickens and Tomlin if you can. Get however many first and second rounders as you can an start rebuilding through the draft with a different coaching staff.

I love my Steelers. I only watch the Steelers, but they're making it almost impossible to watch games with any type of positivity. I literally stopped watching full games because of their poor play. I 100% agree that it's time to move on from the core players, and truly the coach. If it's his touch on both offense and defense that has allowed this ineffectual play to continue, it won't change if he's back.

@Steelers_DB You mentioned a lot the word "ceiling" in this one. Wouldn't you say Fields gives them a higher ceiling? I understand it's not always been there and the inconsistencies, but the potential with Fields is crazy. Also, what other options would they even have if they want to chase that higher ceiling? I sure as hell don't want another bum ass QB like KP on the first round just because "WE GOT TO HAVE A QB" and we've seen the offense is just very limited with Wilson at the helm. Also, what are the chances the Steelers give James Daniels another contract after we've seen the liability the right side of the line has been this season?

This team is such a bummer. I would blow it up, eat some sh!t for a season or two, and get a rebuild going. Would rather that than live in this Groundhog's Day reality.

Ben Skowronek is a nice piece that every NFL team can use. Underrated at WR too. As far as the QB, the options are an expensive old guy who isn't the answer/had the backup QB bump through 4-5 weeks & was below average at best to finish the season - or you continue to add offensive talent with a young cheap guy who also probably isn't the answer. Those are the two options, why not improve the rest of your roster rather than give half the cap to a guy who led them to 2 first downs in the first half of a playoff game? Last SB window: they had the team set before drafting their franchise QB.

Tomlin ran out of good ideas a long time ago and moved on to dumb decisions. The organization is afraid to fire him. JUST a pack of softies

I've been a Steeler fan since 72 and have witnessed the great journey like many of you. However, this is the first time I've ever seen a Steeler team end their season so listlessly! I'm curious to find out how many minutes the offense was on the field versus the defense for the entire season because the way the defense looked last night they looked like they had played twice as many minutes and were worn out by the second quarter. There's little point in analyzing another playoff loss and start to observe the many needs this team has. The immediate need is for an ass-kicking Offensive Line Coach. Mike Munchak set the bar years back and since he's left the Steelers offensive line has suffered for it. They've spent high capital picks the past two drafts on the O-Line and that unit has regressed and been in shambles going back to the last two seasons for Ben. Coaching and added depth is what's needed there. The Defensive Line needs some serious help. There's no pass rush and little run prevent pressure. This is another unit that has little depth and needs stability there. QB❓Russ needs to take a step back and become the Charlie Batch like number 2 QB the Steelers need him to be. He needs to be as supportive as Fields was towards him. Get a QB coach that can help further Fields development. Bring Najie back short term for no more than 2 years and see what he can do with an O-Line that will improve. Coach T isn't going anywhere, not after a 10 win overachievement. If anything the Defensive Coordinate Teryl Austin is OTD (out the door) for putting a tired defensive unit on the field the past 3 games. On DB: This is my second season checking out your channel and I've always appreciated your analysis. If I were to recommend anything it would be for you to try green screening your background to create an interesting look vs a plain wall. Trade watt and minkah, and tomlin. Stock up on firsts and second round picks. not winning with them and it's a disservice wasting them here....get multiple firsts....resign fields, go get Archie manning in 2026.
