The boys sing a song about what Brian Boitano would do about saving Terrance and Philip.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The most tasteless third graders on television graduate to the big screen, as Trey Parker and Matt Stone expand their animated series with foul-mouthed humor that might breach the boundaries of basic cable. In the small Colorado town of South Park, good-natured Stan Marsh, slightly neurotic Kyle Broflovski, fat and petulant Eric Cartman, and perpetually doomed Kenny McCormick are psyched for the premiere of the first feature film from flatulent Canadian TV performers Terrance and Phillip, entitled "Asses of Fire." The movie is rated R, but that's not about to stop the boys from sneaking into the theater. However, when the boys' language gets bluer by the minute after seeing the film, their parents and school administrators decide that something must be done. Kyle's mother comes up with the ideal solution: blame Canada. Terrance and Phillip end up in jail for corrupting America's youth, while the Canadian Air Force retaliates with an air strike targeting the Baldwin brothers. The boys soon organize a children's underground resistance force to free Terrance and Phillip before they can be executed; meanwhile, in a sensitive subplot exploring relationship issues, we're permitted an inside look at the domestic problems of Satan and his lover, Saddam Hussein. As on the TV show, Parker and Stone perform the voices of most of the characters, and they also wrote several songs for the film; George Clooney, Minnie Driver, Eric Idle, Dave Foley, and Mike Judge contribute voices. Not to spoil the plot, but rumor has it that Kenny dies.

The movie was actually kind of a legit musical, completely unexpected. It's not like Family Guy, watching that show you know McFarlane is a fan of musical/theatre format.
Yeah, I seem to remember Trey and Matt saying that Steven Sondheim (!) wrote them a letter to tell them that the songs were wonderful. I think they said that they were so speechless and humbled that one of the great composers of the last century would lavish praise on them, that they were like, "Um , thanks...you've done some good stuff too?"

Let's take a moment to appreciate that Brian Boitano managed to not only build the pyramids of Egypt (presumably all of them; presumably single handedly), he also somehow simultaneously beat up 13th-century Mongol emperor Kublai Kahn, despite the ~3,700 year time difference of those periods. All of this presumably done on ice skates. What a hero.

Holy Shrimp! Studios It's made to look liek constriction paper. Apparently certain assets are scanned from construction paper and imported into 3D rendering software to create that kind of look.

Holy Shrimp! Studios is right - only the first episode was done frame by frame using ACTUAL construction paper. All episodes since then were made using rendering software; HOWEVER, Klemen Kekec is also right that they actually scanned certain "assets" using construction paper and then rendered them to attempt to retain the "construction paper look" as close to the natural as possible, from the texture of the characters down to the shadows cast by the construction paper cutouts.
There's a documentary out there that tells the story - the equipment they have is state of the art and could produce visually stunning animations... and they use it to make construction paper cartoons. That's what I meant in my comment, that the cartoon has a construction paper LOOK, I'm fully aware that only the first episode was made with construction paper, which took months to accomplish, but nowadays South Park has an amazing turnaround time of 5-6 days! That's to write, voice, animate, and publish an entire episode all in a matter of a few days! In fact, the episode regarding Obama's first election aired 2 days after the election, which is insane! The writers said that they essentially "guessed" that Obama would win and did half the episode before the election and finished it afterwards. If McCain would have won, they'd have been screwed and would have had to scrap that episode.

It was 1999, I had just turned 10. I was on summer vacation with my family, and since my parents fucking ruled, my older brothers and I were all big South Park fans. Our dad actually took all 3 of us to watch it in theaters, a decision he regrets to this day lol. It's funny how few of the jokes I actually understood back then.
