Bluponi I once landed on LaGuardia runway 13 after the pilots allowed the 737-200 to float for too long. It was no fun watching runway pass by the window, but they got it down with plenty of length remaining.

They are the elevator trim... They move by the autopilot, or when the pilots push the flip switches on their yoke. It is used by pilots to stabilize the plane so they need less force on the yoke. The reason you have the trim wheels easily accessible, is in case of a failure with the trim-motor or power outage.

What are the side by side wheel like motion in the center controls that keeps rotating. I've seen the same on other plane videos. It sure catches your attention of you do not know what it is???
Where I'm talking about is seen spinning on each side of the thrust controls. It's spins fast with white color marks. Looks like something can get tangled up if your hand is caught when spinning??

Tengo una pregunta ... que me dice del Avion ERJ=190 ,,, lo cambiaron en un vuelo que voy a tener pronto por un 737 B ,,, nunca he viajado en uno de esos , por eso la pregunta
Nice touch down--a little long but you can do that to make the passengers have a "greaser" if the runway is long enough. The rotating wheel is the elevator trim wheel. This was an automatic approach so the auto pilot was trimming for speed changes. The lady disconnected the autopilot on short final. Too many pilots rely too much on the autopilot and auto throttle nowadays and do not keep up their manual flying skills. If the pilot is not tired and the traffic is light, it's a good idea to disconnect the autos when descending through 10,000ft and FLY it down to landing.
Johnny Sadiq - I agree with the need to practice hand flying but in busy terminal areas disconnecting the AP at 10,000' really overworks the pilot monitoring. He needs to work the radio, run the checklist and keep the mode control panel set. In busy areas disconnect at or around the final approach fix after the checklists are done and the last frequency change has occurred.
Sweet landing really. You greased it in. It looks so easy landing a plane while watching a video but we all know that is what years of practice will do for you.
I was going to comment on the video itself, but then I started reading the comments, and the amount of people losing their minds over the fact that the word "girl" was used, is much more entertaining.
Atta girl! Very soft landing. A little fast, and slightly to the left of center, but overall, very nicely done. I literally couldn't have done it any better. I'd fly with her any day!
If I recall correctly from my student pilot days (eons ago, on a _much_ smaller and _far_ less sophisticated plane) they're trim tab controls. I could be wrong though.
+underwaterbubbles Basically its elevator auto trim - every time you adjust your speed the trim also needs to be adjusted to maintain the desired pitch in this case - it's to assist the pilot so the yolk can remain roughly centred in front of her, otherwise she would need to pull it closer and closer to her as she descends making lateral control more difficult, the rudder and ailerons can also be trimmed if necessary for level flight but usually only once. On take-off for example the pilot rotates (pulls back on the yolk) to achieve say a 15 degrees nose up attitude, in order that they don't have to keep the yolk in that position themselves the elevators would be trimmed so the plane flies nose up on it's own until they next change speed (I'm sure I could have explained that much better, and shorter lol).
Autopilot flew 99% of her flight, she turned autopilot off about 200 feet from landing. She blew the landing, floated 100 yards past touchdown point, captain was standing on the brakes when he took control of the bird back.
+Tampaslice She did float but every pilot out there does it from time to time. No pilot (No matter how good they think they are) will float from time to time during their career. Most pilots allow the autopilot to bring them to the inner marker and then disconnect, some don't. Personally I prefer to hand fly from 3,000 AGL down unless CAT II or III conditions and If I am unfamiliar with the airport and surrounding area. The Captain was not standing on the breaks also, its common practice to exit at the nearest taxiway to clear the active runway as soon as possible for other aircraft on approach. I personally think she did well and if she made it to Captain then she is doing it right. All Pilots no matter their skill level or how good they think they are, are always needing improvement somewhere. Remember, when a pilot claims or thinks to know everything there is to know about flying, is the moment they become dangerous and need to step out of the flight deck. God Bless! Captain Walton
+Keenan Molver I agree, I'm sure she has since bettered herself and is doing very well as an ATP rated pilot. Please folks lets remember, flying a commercial aircraft is allot of work. Its not just pushing some buttons and moving some levers. There is allot of work behind the scenes that takes places behind that flight deck door when it is closed. So please lets all show some respect to pilots as I feel many people don't realize just how much work is involved in getting you to your destination safe.
creo, es la primer vez que veo una piloto mujer, si en los hombres ya era para mí de admirarse, que puedo decir de una mujer. mi admiración para tod@s!
I flew on a plane when the pilot was a woman, you know what I would never have known untill she spoke on the radio.Flight seemed very normal to me, lovely landing.Woman can do nearly everything a man can but NOT front line battle in war.
The long white markers either side of the centreline are at five hundred feet intervals from the threshold. So this aircraft landed almost 4000 feet in from the threshold. In my airline that is a mandatory go-around. This was actually a poor landing even though it was relatively smooth. 737 pilots aim to touch down around the 1000 foot markers. The captain should have ordered a go-around.
I noticed the same thing. Back when I flew you really tried to land near the touchdown zone. It was not essential with a Cessna 172 but was essential with higher performance and large aircraft needing the entire runway length for normal operation. Have you noticed on many videos (made in the last 10 years) of airliner landings they land 1000 feet or more past the touchdown zone? Many are landing on a runway longer than needed, but it is not a good practice to get into using way too much runway length to land. A 737 can often land in 4500ft. and do all over the world. Unless the crew needs extra speed on approach or really intend to land long it should not be done. An assignment to an airport with a short runway could be tough when you land long all the time. I am glad your airline practices flying accurate approaches all of the time. I wish all airlines did.
The aiming point of all airliners is 1100-1500 feet from the threshold. There is a lot of aircraft behind the pilot and aiming this far in ensures adequate wheel clearance. We never aim for the threshold, that is something only light aircraft do.
How come everyone, including the tower, is communicating in Spanish? I thought that regardless of the country, English is the mandatory primary language that is to be used?
CerealKiIIer i think your right but that should be ilegal because for the pilots who cant speak spains they will have no clue what the other planes are doing
Can someone explain how does the trimmer/thrust automation work? Is it pre-programmed manually for that specific approach or it's done on-the-fly by a computer?
The autopilot automatically adjusts the stabilizer trim to remove any control column forces. This ensures that any time the autopilot is disconnected, the nose doesn’t suddenly pitch up or down. During manual flight, thumb switches on the control column are used to manually apply nose up or down trim. The auto throttle has three modes of operation. Speed - tries to maintain a selected or computed airspeed. N1 - maintains a target engine speed. Retard - thrust levers are driven back to the idle stop.
Looks like an auto-pilot landing for most of the approach; notice they kept changing dials on upper center section (auto-pilot). Why use it? Computer control turns are usually smoother and the altitude changes more accurate. We have the technology to take-off and land without pilots, but the flying public and FAA will not accept it. She went little long on the landing, but still a good one.
around 5:34 the plane seems to start taxing to the left, but i don't really see either of the pilots do anything to do that. how exactly do they steer the plane with it's on the ground? i apologize if this is a dumb question.
sskkiittee hi they turn the plane to the right , to taxi on F and then cross to the other side of the airport , to arrive to terminal one. regards from Mexico, please subs and comment. sghost77
sskkiittee Also foot pedals are used, for more precise control when performing landing or take off. Tiller in turn allows for sharper turns specifically when taxing.
Francisco Aviles hola como estas??? no eres el primero... que pregunta.. son los compensadores de los elevadores.... para compensar nariz arriba del avion o nariz abajo del avion.. segun se necesite sin empujar o jalar el timon de mando.. saludos... sghost77
I HATE to use the autopilot, I hand fly most of the time without the flight directer and auto thrust!!! its just much more fun and in some cases safer to!!
You obviously don't fly for a living, don't know how to spell flight director, or know pilot lingo, i.e. It's not auto thrust, its auto throttles. Using the autopilot/flight director and any other tools in the cockpit to help spread the work load, ease fatigue, and increase SA is always safer. Weekend warriors flying their 172 blab about not using the autopilot or flight director. Not using them if they are available to you is foolish. The only time using the autopilot is not safe would be below its specified minimum altitude for use.
Virginia Turner Well boeing computers lets pilots make decisions while in airbus the computer makes all the decisions. That's the gist I got after watching many episodes of air crash investigations.
Virginia Turner Hahaha, you got me on the spelling!! I should have proof read it!! Now with that set aside, you OBVIOUSLY don't know me!! I am an airline pilot for a U.S. carrier and I have been flying for over 23 years, I also served in the U.S. Navy for 8 years, and I have operated some very sophisticated aircraft!! Let me educate you a little, "auto throttles" and "auto thrust" do exist, they are two different systems. Auto throttles when engaged, the throttles are actually moving when the airplane is trying to maintain a selected speed hence; "auto throttles", auto thrust when engaged, the thrust levers (throttles) are NOT moving when the airplane is trying to maintain a selected speed only thrust changes hence; "auto thrust"!! The autopilot/flight direct"o"r is a TOOL and just a tool, for one there are two of us in the "flight deck".........(oooohhhh nooooo, I should of said "cockpit") to spread the work load, weather I am hand flying the airplane or using the autopilot the work load is the same, this is not a single pilot environment we fly in a two pilot environment so the duties are split. one pilot just flies (pilot flying) with or without the autopilot and the other pilot monitors/dose everything else (pilot monitoring)!! In fact these autopilot systems are so sophisticated with limitations sometimes it is easier and safer to hand fly the airplane, and to add to that sometimes the autopilot is deferred so it is not even available, so we will hand fly the entire flight..... Fact, resent airline accidents have been contributed to the "over use" and "reliance" of the autopilot systems. The only people I know that over use these systems are GA pilots and FSX gamers. The airline business is not joke, we are not there to play around if we are not using the autopilot its because the equipment is not available/legal or we feel it's much safer to hand fly the aircraft!!.........And I do prefer Boeing over Airbus!!!!
It'll cost you $80,000 for flight school and certifications to become a commercial airline pilot. And you'll have to start out at a regional airline for $30,000 and have really shitty hours. Live the dream.
+XXXThanos Pilots don't fly just because it's a job - it's a passion and by the time the novelty has worn off you'll be earning much more. Long haul freight is great for getting flying hours but boring. Short haul is great for flying but the pay sucks - like most jobs, except pilots usually fly because they love to fly, not to get rich.
si tengo son como tres... o cuatro videos pero estan grabados en la noche... pero algunos de los aterrizajes de cabina sale ella... a ver si tengo la suerte de volverla a filmar.. !
She put the throttles back, then advanced them (just before landing) and put them back again after prompting from her captain. This lead to the aircraft floating way down the runway. Not a very good landing.
Satos1 your completely correct.. at least 1500-2000 ft past the touchdown zone. For qualified pilots on such a routine approach to landing a 2000ft flare in a 737 is unacceptable.
Jordan Dawe Cannot agree: it put the main wheels down just after the second set of piano keys, exactly where I would expect the touchdown zone to be, as can be seen from the other tyre marks . Furthermore, I can hardly see the power levers being advanced from the flight idle position at all .
yann Cruz I know many pilots do it, but this pilot advanced the throttles again (after retarding them) at 30 feet which led to the aircraft floating way past the touchdown threshold.
Nice video. Good camera perspective. Can't comment on pilot skills because she didn't disengage the A/P until short final. The A/P flew the whole approach. I think pilots are becoming too reliant upon automation. All I see is switch-flicking & knob turning. What happened to all the true pilots? I believe that all aircraft should be hand-flown below 5000ft. Period. The A/P should be used for cruising.
+RellyOhBoy Right? You mean like those pilots on the Korean airliner - with four pilots on the flight deck - that crashed right into the end of the runway jutting out into San Francisco Bay about a year ago, with a twenty-five mile unobstructed final approach, CAVU, and... oh, don't get me going. BTW, one of the two fatalities was caused by an SFFD firetruck running over a student who had escaped down the emergency tunnel. Sad. Fuck-ups all around.... But your comment on push-button "piloting" is well taken.
+mikerossscuba I dont care how cute the pilot is. If you cant fly the plane you might as well be a passenger. The korean airline incident was pure pilot error. Clear day, long ass straight in approach and they still didn't have that plane configured for landing by short final. To survive a plane crash only to get ran over by a rescue vehicle, thats some bad luck right there.
+RellyOhBoy The point is to reduce pilot error, because more can go wrong with a full manual approach compared to a automated or ILS approach. All these pilots are trained with hundreds of hours flying manual approaches, so they do know what they are doing. The Asiana crash happened because of pilot error with the autopilot - the auto throttle was left armed, not on. Really there is no difference between turning a switch and moving the yoke, except for the factor of human error - which isn't something you should be playing around with on a large airliner with hundreds of lives at stake.
+h snow I agree partially, Airliners should be flown by the book in most cases. Automation doesn't equal infallibility. The auto pilot is a system with complex mathematical algorithms designed and program by humans. It also has a safe operating threshold. A/P's don't have instincts, when faced with an extreme situation it is designed to disconnect either partially or fully to allow the pilot to assume control. Aircraft manufacturers have different approaches to this. Boeings have pilot-centric flight decks. Airbus' have computer-centric flight decks thus the side-stick. (with the exception of the A300/A310)
You know women aren't allowed on flight carriers right? Because their genetics stops them for being actually really good. It's not their fault it's just how nature works.
excellent, soft touchdown, congratulation! my daughter just has been watching and was impressed, as she wants to become a commercial pilot after high schlool. thanx for uploading and cheers!
great news about your daughter.... i will advise pilot girl.... she is going to be happy for that ... regards from MEXICO... dont forget to visit my instagram sghost77 .
The copilot is not a "girl". She is a "woman" or a "female". You wouldn't refer to the pilot as a "boy" would you? And why do you find it necessary to specify her sex as if it's remarkable that a female is capable of being an airline pilot?
Is she really hot? What a surprise, a hot woman who knows how to fly... Extraordinary combination. Por cierto, hago el comentario en inglish, por que tu escribes en inglés sghost77

nice job young lady! you'll go places and do things most people will never do. also the people making negative comments will probably never leave the city they were born in..
Was a great career for me! Don't fly for a big airline making minimum wage, Fly a business jet like the Citation X, you'll make a years pay flying for company like Delta, in one month as an Instructor on a Citation! 29 years and14,000 hours later and I wouldn't change a thing!
What kind of plane is this? I guess it is Boeing 737, isn't it? Don't you think you unfastened your seatbelt to fast? ;) Nice video :) Thanks for sharing it :)
Ondrej Popp Those were the trim wheels. When they were spinning on their own, the autopilot was flying the plane. When the pilots were adjusting settings in the upper center of the panel, they were making alt., airspeed, etc. changes to the flight and approach thru the autopilot. Probably when the last entry was made to the autopilot, it was disengaged and the right seat hand flew until end of thrust reversers. The left seat made turn onto taxiway.
Wizz Bang thanks. Because you say "were", then I assume it is an old technology and new planes do not have this anymore? I found some info about trimming a plane, I did not know about that either because my flight simulator works fine without it, so here, www.aeroskytech.com/english/trim/trim.html and so it is a wheel you can also move manually to trim a plane, or with the autopilot. If you let the autopilot do it you see it spin like crazy.. Something like that?

In busy areas disconnect at or around the final approach fix after the checklists are done and the last frequency change has occurred.
Loved the video
From what i can see On top of her pilot skills, she's a lovely one too!!
What are those rotating wheels right down the engine thrust? What do they do? Spinning like crazy!

Sweet landing really. You greased it in. It looks so easy landing a plane while watching a video but we all know that is what years of practice will do for you.
Do you remember when all the bus drivers used to be men?
Yes I do really. I am 54 years old. But now there is no reason why woman should not do these same jobs today and at the same pay rate.
OMG I am so proud, she is the best pilot ever.

Atta girl! Very soft landing. A little fast, and slightly to the left of center, but overall, very nicely done. I literally couldn't have done it any better. I'd fly with her any day!
Haha great video! Nice to see some women in there ;-)

What are those two wheels in the centre consul that seem to keep going round on their own ?
If I recall correctly from my student pilot days (eons ago, on a _much_ smaller and _far_ less sophisticated plane) they're trim tab controls. I could be wrong though.
Wayne Phillips Would you happen to know their purpose ?
Impressive.
I'm new to this; what are those 'thingies' spinning about in the center console?
the trim ..... help to put nose down nose up..
*****
Yes, but how does it operate. Could it be likened to power steering in a car?
yes , it can be likened to the power steering.. regards from mexico... sghost77
Artifitial Horizon
the plane is in AP, so the trim is being automatically adjusted to correct attitude as speed and flaps change.
on the ground, is the plane turn automatically? I don't see those pilots drive the steering wheel.
That was great, she took her seat belt off so quickly. I would still have it on now, glued to my seat with sweat. How cool was that.
That's not a seat belt but shoulder harness. Seat belt and shoulder harness are connected but can make it off separately.
Im not a pilot. What are those controls spinning on the center console? ?
Pilot girl? Female pilot. Respect is due as she's operating way bigger machinery than I do.
Autopilot flew 99% of her flight, she turned autopilot off about 200 feet from landing. She blew the landing, floated 100 yards past touchdown point, captain was standing on the brakes when he took control of the bird back.
+Tampaslice Brutal
+Captain Walton © 2014 I totally agree with you there. Pilots should always be finding a way to better themselves and like every other profession, there is always something that you can improve on. She got the plane on the ground safely and I'm sure she learnt something from it.
No check lists before landing, after landing??
you cant hear it??
I get a rush from these videos. Like the slot machine effect in the middle. They should give payouts to these pilots. Great job guys

Nice modern kitchen. Pots and pans stored in the overhead compartment?
What are the things spinning on either side of the throttles?
+Eamonn Those are trim wheels.
+Eamonn Electric Trim .
+Eamonn For a second there I thought they were winning gambling chips and there was a hidden slot machine in the controls!
+MrSaxmanJones what do the trim wheels do??
+Chris Noe The trim wheels are used to move weight to the nose or tail of the plane to balance it out (a laymen explanation).
Question Would manipulating the throttles as she did, increase the chance of a stall?
Smooth, disconnected autopilot at about 300 feet. Nice touchdown in the landing zone.
que son esas ruedas que dan vueltas para adelante y para atraz (con una marquita blanca) junto a las palancas de los motores(o como se diga) ??
The Cancun 12R is almost 10000 feet length, not so much a problem to delay 4000 from threshold!
you very right.
actually can somebody tell me what is the identification of the correct touchdown spot
What are the two wheels that spin on either side of the throttle?
Paul Sheats the trim for the elevator....
How come everyone, including the tower, is communicating in Spanish? I thought that regardless of the country, English is the mandatory primary language that is to be used?
If both speak the same language, it's fine. If not, the tower will answer you in English.
CerealKiIIer i think your right but that should be ilegal because for the pilots who cant speak spains they will have no clue what the other planes are doing
5Hessens That's not true, 'cause the controller is going to tell you what to do, you should trust them.
Pretty standard, they'll will communicate in their first language.
You are correct. The ICAO(International civil aviation organization) specifically says the standard language is English.
what's in the center of the cockpit that sounds like a slot machine?
auto trim
She went little long on the landing, but still a good one.
is that an MD80 or just an older 737?
Who cares if the pilot is female, it all comes down to how well the person can fly.

Let's go back to the music much safer
around 5:34 the plane seems to start taxing to the left, but i don't really see either of the pilots do anything to do that. how exactly do they steer the plane with it's on the ground? i apologize if this is a dumb question.
sskkiittee hi they turn the plane to the right , to taxi on F and then cross to the other side of the airport , to arrive to terminal one. regards from Mexico, please subs and comment. sghost77
sskkiittee Captain steers the plane with the tiller, which is placed on the left hand side.
Mark Purpose OH the tiller!! thank you so much for answering!! i watched many videos but never got to know how the steering is done. thanks!
sskkiittee Also foot pedals are used, for more precise control when performing landing or take off. Tiller in turn allows for sharper turns specifically when taxing.
Damian De Understood. Thank you!!
5:00 - The pilot on the left gives the sign? Pilot Right then reduces thrust.

whats that below the throttles thats rolling every now and then??
+enterprise59 It´s the trim!
I HATE to use the autopilot, I hand fly most of the time without the flight directer and auto thrust!!! its just much more fun and in some cases safer to!!
hmmm you would probably fair better flying a boeing than an airbus then...
The only time using the autopilot is not safe would be below its specified minimum altitude for use.
jitegemee and why would he fair better in a Boeing over and Airbus. Only difference is the yoke vs side stick
What are the spinning wheels next to the throttles?
after watching this video i want to become a pilot myself
great... so.. start today.... and become a pilot... regards from MEXICO... dont forget to visit my instagram sghost77 .
That looked much better than some of the hard smack-down landings I see sometimes, it hurts just to watch them smack into the ground.
More CRM needed here. They are touching buttons without saying to one another their intentions!!!

ah ok ok, muchas gracias por atender mi comentario, saludos y abrazos !
She put the throttles back, then advanced them (just before landing) and put them back again after prompting from her captain. This lead to the aircraft floating way down the runway. Not a very good landing.
Absolute nonsense
Satos1 your completely correct.. at least 1500-2000 ft past the touchdown zone. For qualified pilots on such a routine approach to landing a 2000ft flare in a 737 is unacceptable.
Jordan Dawe Cannot agree: it put the main wheels down just after the second set of piano keys, exactly where I would expect the touchdown zone to be, as can be seen from the other tyre marks . Furthermore, I can hardly see the power levers being advanced from the flight idle position at all .
its called trying to make a smooth landing, a lot pilots do it...
yann Cruz
I know many pilots do it, but this pilot advanced the throttles again (after retarding them) at 30 feet which led to the aircraft floating way past the touchdown threshold.
Excellent, but why she took her seat belt off to earlier??
but she is already on ground saludos , te invito a visitar mi instagram @sghost77

Al capitán se le nota como nervioso... Pero a la dama todo excelente, saludos
Can anone telle me - what is the things swirling back and forth between the pilots all the time??
the trim .....
+RellyOhBoy Right?
(with the exception of the A300/A310)
No more wheel to hang onto to steer?
Unless you want us to refer to the 'boy' pilots, quit calling female pilots 'girl' and simply speak of the PILOT.
I agree and congratulate u for ur answer.
Thank u
You know women aren't allowed on flight carriers right? Because their genetics stops them for being actually really good. It's not their fault it's just how nature works.
That is not true.....a lot of women are very good in this field.

What are these white things near the throttle you see spinning?
Something like that?
yes. I think these are still used on some models of new planes (the wheels)
Yeah! At last the mystery has been revealed!
