  • TODAY’s Sheinelle Jones talks with four women, Herrin Hopper, Leandra Nichola, Holly Harper and Jen Jacobs, who amid the pandemic, divorces and loss, found healing and happiness by moving in together. The idea for the "full house" came from trying to find a way to save money and get support as single mothers, and the women have banded together, even helping Leandra open a cafe. They plan to invest in another house in hopes of helping other women.

MORE people should do this. Help with expenses, cooking, homework, entertainment. Better security, I can think of all kinds of reasons! Of course you have to agree on rules, limits, I know that doesn't sound how I mean it. But willing people can make this work.

To be honest. It’s easier then I originally thought. I’m sure. Because they all have separate apartments. At first I thought they all lived in a normal house together. But it is an amazing idea if you can find a beautiful house like this that has so many units. Not so easy to find where I live sadly But great if you can.

This would work best with like-minded individuals. Doesn’t have to be same thought, just similar values and parenting ideas, etc. and be respectful of times when things differ. I’ve lived in a 40 woman room and board house in college and shared living absolutely can work. But it does require collaborative work, a defined schedule, regular meetings, and shared common goals. Having separate units makes it a lot easier to have some privacy but if this were a multi-bedroom house instead of a multi-unit building, it could still work but then you’d need to be really tight knit bonded individuals. Because of my experience in college, I’m very open to a home-share type situation with my friends, should our lives end up being single forever or single parents.

I'm so jealous! As a single mom, I've dreamt of having something just like this...home-sharing with other single moms for both the financial and logistical support. There was a TV show in the 80s, Kate & Allie, based on this type of living situation. Congrats to these women who were able to find their housemates & create a loving community.

Me too. I have no support as a single mom, my ex-husband's don't pay consistent child support, inflation is kicking my butt right now. I've thought about this so many times. Right now, I'd be happy to find similar single moms with the same moral values to create my own tribe of friends where we support each other.

They have separate units, so there is a fair amount of privacy. Since they are single parents, they aren't going to bringing someone home unless it's very serious anyways. Any man would probably have to be cool with moving in to the set-up, but who's going to get mad about free childcare? I live in a 2-unit house, 3 renters downstairs and 5 renters upstairs, so all that's unusual to me about this is that they chose to live together instead of getting stuck together by a landlord. Worse case, especially with the news coverage, I don't imagine they'd have any trouble filling a vacancy.

    • @vkrgfan
      @vkrgfan ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm sure they have a contract and I'm sure they thought of this before, they don't seem like the ladies that made that decision on a whim. Besides, many women date and don't bring the male home, or introduce him to a family right away, it takes time to get to know someone.

She really said because she lives with women she doesn’t have to take the trash out or ask anyone to do it, do any of them work physical labor or even work outside of the house. Are they all tech support? What happens if one of them gets married will there be jealousy and will they move out leaving the others in a financial crisis or would they just sell the house. Seems nice but I can see there being flaws in the future.

    • @z7z766

Also, what do you mean working outside as in having paid jobs? How do you think they are paying to support themselves and the children?

    • @waste0fspace588

@@z7z766 nah as in at their house since they don’t ask each other to take out the trash they just do I wonder what happens outside like yard work. Women are capable of doing yard work but for the most part would rather not depending on what the task is. Example- I just saw Brett cooper short with a girl who says she asked a random guy to change her flat because she didn’t know how to but she really did she just believes women shouldn’t have to do certain tasks that involve physical work. So back to convo, what happens when it comes to those types of activities that need to be done and they don’t want to do but can’t ask especially when it comes to living on top of each other. Most people would think who cares about lawn care, turns out a lot of people do and they like to go to township or county and complain so they fine property owners for not cleaning lawns and easements depending on where you live.

      @@waste0fspace588
first of all, I think you are mentally challenged because do you even read what you wrote?
About the trash thing, when growns up and responsible adults live in a house together, they don't tell/nag each other what to do, they just do it. I lived in an apartment with another 3 female housemates, I was the only working person and the other 3 were University students, I used to come from work late at night and look for chores to do but there is nothing to do because these 3 young women took care of it like a responsible adults. They don't wait until the trash bile up, they don't wait until the house get dirty, whoever had the chance to do cleaning they will clean, so since I have nothing to contribute during the weekdays, I chose to do deep cleaning for the house once a week as way to contribute. That's why grown ups don't ask each other what to do, they have common sense, I don't have to tell a grown up to take the trash out, they should take it once they see that the trash need to be taken care of.
As for yard work comment, this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read but an not surprised, you are male after all, ridiculousness is in your Y chromosome.
Let me give you an example, when you live alone in your own house, do you expect a ghost to take care of your house or you just do it?
Another example, if you live in a house with a manchild, who acts clueless and refuse to participate in EVERYDAY domestic labour, like cooking, cleaning and child care, which is 24/7 physical job, and he is refusing to do it because he knows it's exhausting and very stressing so he tries to act as he is contributing to the house by doing yard "work" which is once a week/weekly chorus unlike the daily 24/7 job he running from, so what can you do in that situation, will you fight that manchild on who gets to do the weekly yard work and let the house in mess and everyone starve or will you do the work and it's priority?
You based your silly assumption that women don't do yard work because you saw the patriarchal dynamics betwen couples where males are running from daily domestic labour and picked the easy weekly chores while women do the daily never ending chores that takes more work and hours.
Let me tell you a story, a coworker of mine reached her limit, their house work was divided unequally, so she demanded to switch the chores with her husband, he refused in the beginning and was making it as its a unnecessary to do so because their division is equal, but she insisted on it and in end they switched chores. His chores was yard work which is was once a week, fixing anything if it was broken (they didn't break anything for a whole year) and driving the kids to school, her chores were daily, cooking 3 meals daily, cleaning the whole house, doing laundry, doing grocery, cleaning toilets, preparing the kids for school, washing and feeding the kids at night and helping them with their homework, once they switched these chores, he couldn't last for 3 days, he complained and whined like a little boy, but she was firm and refused to switch back, he neglected the house and the kids on purpose thinking that she will go back to doing the chores but nope, they ultimately got divorced because the manchild couldn't keep up with the domestic labour. So to answer your question, any human will choose doing weekly yard work than doing daily never ending chores like cooking and cleaning. From your ridiculous comment, why do you make it like domestic labour (cooking and cleaning, laundry and childcare isn't a physical labour but somehow yard maintaining is a physical one? Do you know what is physical labour, it's a work that needs body?
Also why do you make it as of women lack common sense? Do you think A group of women who live in house and chose to help each other and raise their children together but somehow you think they will magically neglect their weekly yard work because your ignorant @ss think they require a weiner to do yard work or because you saw a pick me woman who thinks she shouldn't do some certain task because she doesn't a weiner then you projected her mentality on other women?
As for the jealous part, you are weird for that one, normal ppl don't get jealous if their friend or family members are doing great, whether they are in great relationship or doing great at work etc. If someone you are close to doing great then as normal person you will glad for them, the once who get jealous and feeling bad about other fortunes then they are sick and require a therapy. So you took your mother sickness and projected it on other ppl, your mother is sick and she needs therapy, don't project that sickess in random women you don't know.

The real question is why they don't have a man

Well, maybe they did and it wasn't a happy or successful arrangement.
Bonding with people who see the world the way you do, can be very comforting and provide emotional security.
Maybe they didn't feel that way with the men in their lives.
      Something to think about,I guess.
I'm sure if they had felt that way with their husbands, then they would most certainly still be married!
So, good on them for supporting each other and creating a happy home life for their children.

Or they are so entitled and stubborn and can't take patriarchy. A woman has a role and a man does and when women try to raise kids on they own it doesn't work because the kids do not have an authority figure in their life a man's word and demeanor.

Also women do not know how to bond anymore because so many sexual partners they have been with.

Maybe they don't want one. I'm at a place in my life where I don't want to be tied down to anyone except my son. I date, but choose not to be in a relationship.

It's funny how all the women in here support this as a "fantastic idea," that more people should do....."
Except... There is no father figure for the children.
Yes, it's called having a family, something so many women do not want to have.
4 mothers... Who disciplines the children? all of them? So one mother can discipline another mother's child?
Sure, having a family with multiple mothers is something that has happened throughout history....
But at the top with the father of the home.
