    Take my money...Amazing! Any chance of a more in depth video of the hole process and how everything works and the couplers on the cars? But seriously take my money lol I need these on my future layout.

    Attention to detail in the landscaping (trees, rock formations, etc) is just amazing. And I love the coal handling "facilities". Well done. Did you have to fabricate the rotating couplings? Also would be curious to know approximate number of man-hours you'd estimate you have on this layout. Thanks for shaing. Cheers

      Thanks! I started the layout in 1999 and worked on it over Thanksgiving Christmas weeks off from work and on miserable winter weekends. But part of that time was just running trains.
      The rotary couplers and draw bars are the sketchy part of this setup; with 23 cars I get a derail or two when pushing out of the dumper. Couplers are hacked from old Rapido trucks and Fox Valley knuckle couplers, but most of the cars are connected by fishing swivel draw bars installed in MTL trucks with couplers.

      Would love to see your rotary coupler solution up close in a video!

      Fun is relative. Frustrating, lots of back to the drawing boards, but full of fun problem solving puzzles.

    Awesome job Kevin...Question- how wide are the top decks and what's the distance between each of the decks from the floor to the top deck? Thanks for your inspiration and knowledge!

    • @kevinguthrie5495
      @kevinguthrie5495  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The layout has one level but the tracks against the wall are higher, 5' 4" from the floor. The width varies from 2' to much bigger. There is a helix in one corner and I can access track from it's center. There the edge of the layout is 5 or 6 feet from the corner of the room.

    Looks great, I didn't think it was possible to create a working coal installation in this scale. I'm very impressed.

    I love that coal loading thing!!!! Where did you buy it/how did you make it? would love to know and someday have one aswell. Cool concept of actualy delivering material!

      The flood loader is scratch built from styrene and powered by a Tortoise. Made everything adjustable via the threaded rod and the square tubing that telescopes so the bins can move up or down. The silo is a scotch bottle container with a hacked funnel glued inside. The key is the "valves"; designs that have close-fitting parts jam. Another video may show them better: th-cam.com/video/QzmBQ4As_mc/w-d-xo.html
