  • **Disclaimer ** My sun conures aren’t actually baby birds - they’re all 7 years old at the time of filming this video! I just call them babies because they’re so small, and they are the youngest of my flock so they seem like babies forever to me!
    Also, Comet is a yellow dominant Camelot macaw, he is not really a giant sun conure, and they are not miniature Comets either. I just really like to joke about it.

      My Hahns Macaw will call me to his cage yelling,"Mom!" He learned from my kids. Lol! When I walk up he say, " Hello?" It's a question when he's in the cage. And " Hello" as a statement when I take him out.
      When I say hello back he says " Pretty bird." Yep. I'm a pretty bird I've come to find out.😆

      You know, I often see videos that say that GCCs don’t usually talk but I find the opposite to be true. Mine and everyone else’s that I’ve met have talked. About one out of five times Bob actually says it clearly. The gimme kiss and smacking sounds often very clear. My sun, Bertie, never says a distinct word but he’s always trying. It sounds like someone talking with their mouth closed. I haven’t seen a sun video with an actual word being spoken. GCC will never mimic perfectly but there’s no limit to the scratchy words that it can learn. Bob employs his words in the proper context too often to be random.

It made me so sad because I wanted to get a parrot, but if they can’t handle the noise of house finches chirping outside, they definitely won’t enjoy the loud screaming of Conures

    Thank you for this video. Two days ago, I lost my Louie bird. He was a Jenday conure, and I got him in 1993. I brought him home before he was weaned and finished hand feeding him myself. He was my baby for almost 27 years. We started out together when I was in my early 20's, young, single, and just starting out in adulthood. He journeyed with me through all of life's ups and downs, marriage, kids, moves around the country, everything. His loss has left a giant hole in my heart. My husband also fell in love with him, and they were bonded as well. Yeah, he was loud (his nickname was Screamy McScreamerton) but he was sweet and cuddly and loving and smart. I will probably get another conure some day, because now I just can't imagine life without one.

      how do you train them to be quiet?

    • @reggieglubber5420
      @reggieglubber5420 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @carina9629 My conure of 22 years passed away last year on January 31st. His name is Bisquit. I have been devastated ever since. I have a new GC conure. He is 2 years old. His name is Raisin. He is learning to be quiet as well when I sleep or take naps. Kindness, extreme sensitivity to their wants and needs, a lot of time out of the cage, and tons of love and affection will make these little creatures respond to anything. Sometimes, a soft and kind "no no" helps when they get fussy. I can take a nap for 3 hours with Raisin right next to me in his cage, and he won't make a peep. If I make a small sound, he fusses. If he gets a little fussy, I talk softly to him, and he settles down. Sometimes ignoring their fussiness helps. You have to gauge it. Bisquit used to sleep on the side of my head all night and not make a sound except if he had to go potty. He would say "potty" and I would put him on his cage to potty. They are so much smarter than we think. My new conure is SOOO affectionate. I hope that helped a little.

      @@reggieglubber5420 I am sorry for your loss and I am so happy to hear you have another little feathered friend to keep you company. For a long time i was heavily considering green cheek conures but I think I will go for pigeons due to my noise sensitivities and the fact i will be livinv in an apartment and I want to be cognizant of my neighbors. Perhaps in the future a parrot will be right for me but as my first bird i think a pigeon will be right for me. Thank you for sharing your experience!

    • @reggieglubber5420
      @reggieglubber5420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @carina9629 Thank you for your support and kind words. Bisquit had helped me through my 6-1/2 year stage 4 cancer journey. He tried to take care of me. My cancer is still active. It won't go in remission. When I came home from my 1st cancer surgery over 6 years ago, he had really missed me. I hadn't seen him in a month. For the first time ever, he came over and cuddled on the side of my head when I laid down on the couch to sleep. He stayed there for 2-1/2 days except to eat and potty. They are phenomenal companions. Green cheeks are the quietest of all conures. During the 22 years I had Bisquit, we stayed in apartments for 20 of those years. My neighbors never complained. Please think about getting a GC someday. I hope you enjoy your pigeon. They are sweet. On TH-cam look up "Raisin my conure." Raisin is on my other channel "Bri Granstrom"

      Are the other conures assholes too?
      I am totally open to all the other requirements : big cage, top tier food, top tier toys, homemade / fresh food, cleaning poop, training. The one thing that will drive me nuts is incessant screaming! I do NOT think obnoxious 100000 decibel squawks all day is relaxing.
      I notice other birds are far less annoying re : noises. I’m fine with chirps and vocals it’s just the TACAWWWWWEEEEEWWWWW! Ahahahahahahaahhwwwwwwwwee!!!! That’s too much.
      Would a Quaker or parrotlet be in line with a quieter bird? Everyone seems to like African Greys but they look creepy. And Jamie has me afraid of cockatoos (and they seem to have so many issues with self mutilation even though they seem cuddlier than any other bird)

    • @laurkes7756
      @laurkes7756 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Puglover130 well. I wouldn’t call them A-holes. Conures in general as a group species are very very loud birds. The more quiet conure species are green cheeks/red bellies. Cockatoos even more so. Quaker’s are good but they can also be very chatty at times. Parrotlets are good, they can be a little noisy but nothing on the level compared to others. But really, do your research. look up videos of pro and cons of owning a certain bird, their noise level, the amount of interaction they need on the daily and if they have a bluffing stage. And all birds have the potential to pluck, some species are just less likely. But parrotlets are good moderately let noisy parrots! Hope this helps! :]

      I sleep in the same room with my Green Cheek. If he is making noise at night it might be night terrors. My Green Cheek gets em sometimes. He had it bad. I was recommended a blue night light for parrots and it did wonders. Went from nightly screams to almost always sleeping through the night. I should also point out that it didn't work overnight. It did take time for him to become secure in sleeping through the night. Hope this helps.
