When the dude says " that's purdy" like a hillbilly then talks about the alcohol swabbing like a college professor made me almost bust a gut a little. Great little stove , first time I've seen someone make this right, with the large hole at the bottom. I add a gas fitting pipe with a cap into it for air , like your ideas on the mini style, thanks for this video very informative 👍 👍 🇨🇦
Yeah that was my mountain man hillbilly from the other side of the mountain out in the bush. I would give him a little money to come do some welding. He taught me a lot to so I can now do all my own welding. Not great but trying to perfect my craft. I always remember him saying the better u prep your weld area the easier it welds together making a better seam.
Beautiful video. I noticed that as you weld. That you continue in a continuous bead, from one end to the other. This will usually result in a concentration of heat in one area. The result will be over penetration of the base plate. Hence the blow through, you mentioned having issues with. May I respectfully suggest stitching your welds in one inch increments, alternating from one joint to the next? Doing this in such a way, that you may find similar with the star pattern that you would use when bolting a tire on a vehicle. This would allow you to finish your joints. With out the risk of over penetration, as you are no longer pushing all that heat into one area. In closing, thank you so much for your time and advice.
I am now doing something a bit different instead of the continuous weld. I kinda spot weld as I move across. Hit it let it cool hit it again and keep going. Does not really take up any extra time and it saves wire. Thanks so much for the advice.
My welds have been doing a lot better now. I just came across your post and realized that’s where I got the advice and now my welds are so much better. That and just having more practice. Thanks for that advice back then. It has really developed my skill set.
Yes that would be a great asset for sure. I leave them empty to keep them light weight for transportation. Once ready for installation I would for sure suggest bricks, play sand, or a grate to hold the wood.
Great video!!! A couple questions. 1) are you building these on your property? 2) who was welding behind you when you were showing us the template for cutting into the barrel for the flat place. Oh and you said bung hole!!
Yes we transport everything into the homestead to work on them then transport the finished product back to the road system and into town. Friend of mine (Chuck) that lives up here in the hill full time as well. Comes over and gives me a hand welding. He has welded most his life so he is pretty good at it.
Sometimes if you are not careful with the welding. I have figured out how to ensure no warping when welding. It is 10 gauge steel. No warping when heated by fire.
$450 shipping would depend on where u are located. Alaska air cargo would have to be close to your destination as they only fly into certain cities with cargo.
I have been charging $350 down here in Michigan. I sell on EBay as well and have recently shipped to South Carolina and Tennessee and shipping was less than $100. EBay has some nice shipping rebates.
@@alaskahuntfishtrapadventures thanks do you mind if I use your idea here in Houston tx,... I can send pic I actually already made on like yours,... Great work! *Teach a wise man And he will be wiser*

How thick is the top? Any warpage?

I did get some warping. I figured how to weld a little on each end then go back and forth so it would not over heat.
