Having studied shotokan and wu tai chi from various talented teachers for over 60 years, I am most impressed by your understanding of the concept of “tanden” and its practical application . Thank you for the clarity, Sensei.

"This moment is like no any other moment..." You just reminded people a great Eastern martial arts precept that has profound ecumenical or universal applications in life in general, which precept or principle most people, including I, forget. Thanks

Agree with Norman. What this sensei says is what got me into karate, but somewhere along the line....I focused on too much bunkai , kumite moves and strength training. Thanks for reminding me!

This takes martial arts to a completely higher level where it is not all about physicality, it is about the art of movement and of a natural and spontaneous frame of mind. You don't need to practice karate to learn from these lessons.

Yes! I'm glad you see that. Many folks out there view karate only from a utilitarian perspective when in fact it is much more than that - it is a connection to life. Like the tea ceremony, is not simply about quenching your thirst. Funakoshi sensei once said, "you cannot explain the taste of blow fish to someone who has not eaten it".

    No Kami: Empty Mind.
    Well demonstrated, Sensei.
You raise many great points, Sensei,
and based upon my own experiences
as a lifelong martial artist, a Soldier in
the United States Army, and as a combat
veteran of OEF-OIF, I concur entirely with
your assessment and mindset. Be whole.
    Respectfully,
    Mr. Shepherd,
    U.S. Army (Ret.)

I found out that since I started Karate I got so much better on Guitar, much more expressive. Perhaps because of this thing you're saying about Ego and letting go of those thoughts that limit your success. Just be. You're right, everything else will flow in your life.

    • @shotokankarate9690

That's great, and if you add to that paradigm karate's ability to invigorate and coordinate your neurological system you can better point everything in the intended direction (a possible definition of karate). - connect to the moment, be totally engaged, free up your mind. One life, one moment.

I'm glad there's someone touching and explaining this aspects so well (which is a rarity in the internet and an hidden treasure really). Whenever I have any doubts about Karate you manage to elucidate me with such an open mind. So, I'm really grateful to you Sensei.
