The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, lifeboat crews around the UK and Ireland are ready to launch to help those in need. Whether you're stuck on a sinking ship, cut off by a rapidly rising tide, or in the water and close to drowning, RNLI crew members will drop everything to come to your rescue. 95% of RNLI lifeboat crews and station staff are volunteers.
But it’s not just lifeboats. RNLI lifeguards patrol 248 beaches across the UK and Channel Islands, keeping people safe, providing safety advice and rescuing those in trouble. Education volunteers visit schools and swimming clubs to help teach the next generation how to enjoy the water safely. And volunteer fundraisers and shop workers give up their time to generate vital funds. The RNLI is also working to help communities around the world that are most at risk of drowning.
If you spot someone in trouble in the water, call 999 or 112 and ask for the coastguard.

The Lily B effort was utterly incredible. Life saving and some consolation salvage. Truly humbling🙏❤️🙏

The volunteers of the RNLI are heroes, every single one of them. Willing to drop whatever they are doing, day or night, rain or shine, to risk their lives to save others and they expect nothing in return.
I'm American but I hope to one day get to visit the UK and once there to visit a lifeboat station, meet some of these heroes and to see the boats up close. I am pretty sure we have nothing like the RNLI on this side of the pond.

@@oscarosullivan4513 We do have the Coast Guard but they don't operate lifeboat stations all along the coast like the RNLI does, they mostly use larger ships and helicopters. They also don't focus solely on saving lives and vessels like the RNLI does, they also patrol American waters looking to stop drug traffickers and undocumented immigrants. They are paid and military while the RNLI are nearly all unpaid volunteers and civilian.
There are Coast Guards on that side of the pond as well but they're a lot different from the one here. The US Coast Guard is a branch of our military and has overlapping responsibilities with the US Navy while Her Magesty's Coast Guard and Irish Coast Guard are civilian and focused completely on saving lives at sea and they are supplemented by the RNLI and other lifeboat services. AFAIK there are no organizations that supplement the US Coast Guard's lifesaving efforts except maybe on a very small scale in a small area, definitely not along tens of thousands of kilometers of coastline like the RNLI and the other lifeboat services cover. We have many thousands of more kilometers of coastline yet our lifeboat services are nearly non-existent when compared to the UK and Ireland. We pretty much just have the US Coast Guard and they do a lot more than just save lives as already mentioned.

@@tallman11282 Thanks the Rnli have helped police but it is in relation to stolen boats. Can agree with the boats, SAR boats have there benefits. The wavney lifeboat was influenced by a Us Coastguard boat design. Irish and Hm coastguard have boats but there is not a lot of them and there used to be coast watching
