You can make similar channels by cutting and attaching 1/4-inch masonite panels and strips into shapes that fit on the panel in question, forming the surfaces without needing a router. Basically adding material instead of removing it.
Oh just buy a cnc? simple! lol jk, that's actually super cool! Can't wait to see what stuff you end up getting into with it. This is super inspiring to someone at my level both on TH-cam AND as a fellow DIYer, thanks for that!
As I'm using it, I'm taking notes and getting ready for that pro/con video to try to answer the question if it's worth the money to buy a CNC machine. It's a big purchase that's for sure. It's not for everybody. But I think if you crunch the numbers you'll find yourself quite surprised.
Very helpful video. A lot of manufactures, that sell flat-packs, use this method. I really wish I had the space for a CNC. Single car garage and no basement.
The biggest power draw is going to come from the spindle, so similar current draw to a router. I placed the entire setup on dedicated 20 amp circuit, that Powers the machine, the computer, and the spindle. Some people will even have a dedicated Shop-Vac for dust collection on the same circuit. I've got my dust collector on its own standalone 20 amp circuit.
Would love to have a CNC router. Think what would be cool to.. the HI Q led back lit. Fill with clear epoxy. Or with a limpid color. I believe in dado and rabbits. Makes a stronger box.. (but my rabbits run away 😢) Also is that the 18gauge air strike? I have a 18gauge air strike. But yours looks smaller?
You and tiod should make some awesome prefab and sell them for each size sub single and duel 1in mdf as flat packs. A wood cnc machine. Less work for you so there currently done tuned prefab that are affordable 💪💯😉✌️
Slot port designs like this can be a little harder to tune. The math for them gives an approximate length. If I design a box like this I always test it after building to verify tuning frequency is what I wanted.
This is fairly common. If it's a ported design you should use a subsonic filter because the speaker can get out of control pretty fast and break itself.
@@mutantryeff ok, at home i have a sub with an FS of 50hz but it goes down to 29hz. In a car the setup drops off after 27hz. Sadly the house doesnt like frequencies lower than 29hz
Great video, Justin! He has a fb group also, guys & gals. To quote Pee-Wee Herman (@04:12), "Everyone I know has a big BUT.". Sorry, never pass up a chance to use that quote!! :P Thanks for sharing the tools in the description, too many just don't do it for some reason. Do you have a link for the CNC cutter though? ...maybe I'm not seeing it. Thanks for the tip spreading the glue before adding the beauty panel... I've always 'squiggled' the glue but haven't spread it, better coverage your way!
HEY Justin, you're getting REALLY close to that Silver Play Button! Keep bringing the awesome content!
Grinding away!

the cake tools are such a good idea! we've been using them in the shop for stuff like this and vinyl wrapped pieces! It works so well
Liked the video - Congrats on the new tool!
Thanks!
Congratulations on the cnc!
Box looks great👍.
Thanks 👍

@@DIYAudioGuy I’m definitely looking forward to that perspective! Everybody shows you what they made, not many dive into the true cost/benefit.

It's a tight fit!
The CNC finally shows up in a video!
Yep
Ok we need a cnc video showing us what you got .
I'll probably do a more comprehensive video about the CNC machine after I've used it for a few months.
MAXX POWAAAAAAR
Nice build
Thanks!
We call them both rebates.... rabbit I'd an animal and a dado is a wooden strip around your room like a picture rail but lower down.. 🇬🇧
It's funny how we use different words, but speak the same language.
Dump the prime! If you use a coat of sanding sealer it easier and faster!
I've used that in the past. Think you're right, I think it works much better.
Glue can needed a better spray pattern. How did the glue stick?
Seems OK so far
How can I learn to calculate a box like that?
What kind of power does that cnc machine draw ?

@ oh , so you can run that off no more than 220 volts ?
@@Fatboys-Unlimited It's all on 110v.

It is 18 gauge, I just have big hands.
@@DIYAudioGuy wasn't the hands.. just looks small.. that's what she said! 😂
What model CNC Machine are you using?
I'm planning to do a more in-depth video on that in a couple of months. I want to put it through its pieces before I recommend it to anybody.
@@DIYAudioGuy Thank you. Looking forward to the review of the CNC and the software you use.
It’s a shapeoko 5 pro with the spindle it looks like. I highly recommend it and have a few shorts about it on my page

If you don't test it, there's no way to know if it's right.
3m glue from hardware and universal carpet from auto zone or auto parts store way cheaper eve stop a local car apolstry shop left overs. 💪💯✌️
I've used 3M. I'm always looking to try new stuff.
Ever design a subwoofer and crossover to have the speaker operate below the speaker's "fs" resonant frequency?
Yes, this one does.
This is fairly common. If it's a ported design you should use a subsonic filter because the speaker can get out of control pretty fast and break itself.
the FS doesnt matter, its free air resonance, not in box resonance. I have a sub with an FS of 40hz, but in my box + car it peaks at 22hz
@@LatvianVideo Building a subwoofer for a car versus a large room is also apples and oranges. In a car, you are living inside a small box.

I tried to find an open source/AI image of a but to insert at that point in the video.
A CNC router table is like owning a boat... better to find a friend that owns a boat than you buying one!
This is probably true.
