I'm getting ready to start a similar project. But I dont have as much tine to sculpt. What's the name of your video where you mount those horns on the fake skull? I love your video. has helped out allot with 2 dead heads I found this year.
Thank you for sharing this. I repaired one tine on each rack and they look great. I had my daughter paint over the gray epoxy with acrylic paint to an ivory type color before staining. I used minwax penetrating stain of a lighter color (IPSWICH PINE 221) and then sprayed with spray on matte polyurethane. Came out great, slightly shiny. Friends could not tell which tines were replaced even after I told them some had been fabricated.
Most helpful restoration I've come across, I have plenty of work ahead for me and feel more confident I will be able to do them the justice they deserve. Thank you
Just like everyone else said - this is just the info I was looking for! Thank you! I'm eager to try this out on a huge moose shed that is in poor shape.
Good video . I had a broken tyne on 1 beam. It got ran over. I also have pieces of antlers laying around . I took a tyne from a scrap antler that was about the right size . Drill a hole in both . Cut a piece of wire clothes hanger and super glued it together. Came out good . The colors were a little off . Some time in the sun should even them out .
Outstanding video. I have a set of antlers that I’ll be working on and this definitely gave me some good ideas on how to tackle this project. Thank you
Hey! Thanks! You taught me how to fix my awesome thrift shop find, an beautiful antler chandelier that has a couple of separations. I'm going to use your wire and glue method, but with epoxy rather than super glue.
Hey Hunter..i have used this method twice for staining..havent repaired any antlers with epoxy sculpt yet,but I did purchase it..i find the color to be a great match..but I personally don't like the shine that's left on the antler..i found if you take final finish steel wool(0000) and lightly drag it over the antler..it knocks the shine down quite a bit..more of a natural look..which I prefer..and as always thanks for the great videos and your willingness to help out 👍👍
Hey, loved your video, I have been doing euro mounts now for aboutb3 yrs and haven't run into a broken tyne til now. I've used the epoxy but have developed a crack. How can I repair the crack without starting g over?

Hey man thank you so much. I have a weird head I got at an estate sale. It's a four point, but has two huge vertical center tines, and then one each side forward reaching. So I think I could make a 12 point this way. Awesome project, thanks again.
Wow! I stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and have now watched several of you videos. You do some cool work! I have been doing some skulls for a few years, and never seen anything like what you do. I definitely will be trying some of your techniques for staining and such. This rebuild video is something I will certainly use as well.
Great video. I have quite the challenge. My buck i shot has his whole left side gone 4 inches past the brow tine. I guess ill bend a huge wire and epoxy it first to match the full length on the other side. Great video though. Very informing and looks great
I had a question, I am fixing one for someone so I never tried before. In his case I have the other piece. Can you use both pieces and glue them together, if so, would you still run a wire between both parts, the tine and the antler. Both pieces mate up to each other perfectly, but I’m thinking, if I’m mating the original 2 parts back together, is it better to still use a coat hanger or will super glue of some sort be long strong enough to hold the parts together, thanks!
I hit a buck with my truck this last October, the13th...Friday. I know right. Anyways, it broke a few points off and I wanted to get fixed. This thing dwarfs any other buck I have. Thanks for the info, ordered me some clay to repair it.
My Apoxie Sculpt didn't cure to the gray color that yours did. It actually has a green tint to it. Any suggestions on how to correct the color or do I just need to abort the mission?????
Thanks for the video. My buck this year has his antler base broken. I have the skull boiled but the antler finally came off when all the connective tissue was removed. I am going to give it a try to reconnect the antler to the skull and fill in the void. Any suggestion on keeping it white instead of it turning gray?
Hi, I tried following what you did but my apoxie sculpt won't take any stain, it just comes right off. What would you recommend? Ever run into that before?
My tine rebuild is looking great so far. Used apoxy scult, but mine dried WAAAAAY darker gray than yours. This rebuild is on a shed from SE OH and the tines are almost white! Any advice on how to get the apoxy scuplt way way lighter prior to adding stain? The stain you recommend also works great on a few recolor projects I've done. But these tines are literally almost white! Wish I could attach a pic, if so, tell me how haha
@@zekeshow3769 that rebuild project took a back seat to a few dead head European mounts some friends asked me to work on. If I ever get around to actually finishing it I'll let ya know haha.
How much epoxy sculpt do you end up using? I have a caribou antlers that I have to repair a couple tines and a few tips. I’m just trying to figure out how much I’d need to order for the project. Thanks for the info. I’m going to try and use some of your techniques on my project.
Hi, I have a question. At 5:13 in the video, it appears the rebuilt tines go from the grey color it dries as, to the almost finished stained color. What was the step you used to get to the matched up stained color? When I stained my shed, the grey epoxy & the existing antler didn't seem to match up well. Thanks for your help & for taking the time to make the video. Very helpful
Sure thing. So I applied 1-2 coats just to the repaired epoxy first, let it dry and they added a clear coat to lock it on, Then after that I went over the whole antler to blend both areas. Adding the clear coat allows you to wipe off the last coat of stain in order to get the lighter highlights. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much this was very helpful . I have a nice cabin by Springfield ,Mo. an looking to decorate it with deer antlers I have purchased . Some of them was painted with brown spray paint . Any suggestions on taking this stuff off ? ..steel wool ? Paint remover? Thanks !
Ya because the antler is pretty tough material I think paint remover with light wire brush might work or soak in acetone as I am pretty sure that dissolves paint. Hope the cabin turns out nice!
Thanks Michael! Well it comes in two parts and I was using the the smallest containers you can buy and I think I used maybe half to 2/3 of the apoxie sculpt.
