Can edible and medicinal mushrooms improve biogas yields from straw while simultaneously creating added value through by-products? Bengt Verworner explores this innovative question in his MycoForm research project at the German institute for biomass research (DBFZ). He investigates the biogas yield from straw permeated with mushroom mycelium, researches whether the substrate can be used as insulation material, and examines the market value of the fruiting bodies.
