To each his own. I don't know whether McCarthy cheats, but I know Pletcher, a onetime D Wayne Lukas assistant, is right up there with Baffert and Assmussen in terms of the number of drug violations on his rap sheet. Trainers have been trying to get an edge for as long as they've been racing horses. My father was a horse player, and he knew a few of the local trainers at Finger Lakes. One of the trainers came over for dinner one evening and revealed his plan to use "something (undetectable) he found in South America" to juice one of his horses for an upcoming race. My dad was to place some hefty wagers with bookmakers throughout Central NY. I can't recall if it worked. There was one jockey who would tell us when he was going to stiff a horse and when he was going to use a buzzer. In the post parade, it was either "whip down" (stiff job) or "whip up" (the buzzer). Still, with all of that, it really didn't get completely corrupted until Lukas came along. I'm not sure how he fared in the post-race tests. I think he beat them nearly all the time, but everyone "knew" he was training horses on steroids and perhaps something else. His 2yo fillies were muscled up and filled out like 4yo colts. Awesome race!!
Prat has really become a top Jock in the US.
Rombauer reminds me of Big Brown.
Big Red you mean? Secretariat are you referring to? Big Red..or maybe there is a Big Brown and it’s my bad..
@@FEARISLIAR Big Brown 2008.
He's Little Brown. Big Brown was huge.
1:44 " AND ROMBAUER ROLLS UP TO THEM" and right past them. Great call by larry. Reminds mr of the 2013 derby when he called his first one "and ORB MAKING GIANT STRIDES!!"
"ORRRRRBBBBB!"
Durkin, 1991 Breeders Cup Juvenile: "And Arazi runs right by him..."
@@chrisfk63 good one!! The favorite in the derby as well the next year. "Here comes arazi look at him flyyyyy.😲" thanks for the memories! 👍
@@Rick-rl1ss MAKING GIANT STRIDES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RACETRACK!! Thst was great!!
@@bnegs521 I love Larry Collmus' calls. So many good ones. Loved the Pharoah calls, Songbird vs Beholder and of course the 2009 Haskell. "Here's a filly for the ages! A Haskell legend! Rachel Alexandra did it!!! Summer Bird was 6 lengths behind her on the wire!
Race Call:
Larry Collmus
he calls all the triple crown races.
They should have used the Pimlico Announcer.
Much Better Race call.
@@bobhollabaugh8044 And The Breeders Cup as well on NBC.
Love his name! Would love to know how the connections came up with it. Also like the name, Mandaloun. Wish he had been in this race.
Props to Medina Spirit! Such a great horse!
Love Rombauer, my favorite to win the Belmont!!!
Lets go!!!
75 on him what a sweat down the stretch wow
Well done Flavien
Rombauer had been training lights out, his speed figs were headed in the right direction and he was G1 placed. Not one prominent "expert" had him hitting the board, but I had a gut feeling he was SOBO. Suspicion confirmed, wallet fattened.
Correct I was down for the warmups and he warmed up the best!
Rombauer looks tiny!
So did Fan Hanover but we all know the story of that horse.
Medina was tiny too.
Great win.
Great race!!!
I always felt that the favourite was going to lose.
It was not a good day for bettors. They sent Manchego off 9 to 2 at the Medowlands the same day if you can believe that one. The overlay of the entire century. I still can't believe it.
He should never have been the favourite in the first place. Absolutely lucky to win the Derby.
@@thomashong2938 yea but most derby winners become favorites
@@thomashong2938 yes, true.
@@parkerbohnn Jesus, I didn't know that, yesterday I was watching Belmont, Pimlico and Charles Town.
Great race
