Idiocracy is sharp and funny, but it parallels the reactionary tendencies to the right that centrists and the center left possess and which have become a blind-side this election: "the country collapses because poor people breed too much" is specifically eugenics, ahistorical, and Elon Musk's entire obsession. I think it's equally important to study -why- we enjoy this movie so much when it's explicitly priming liberals to think like fascists. And what truths is it papering over/concealing in its narrative. For example, Americans are as smart and better-educated as we have ever been. This is despite some paradoxes that eugenicists didn't anticipate: Poor people are driving population growth, but we're removing lead from the air and water, white college attainment has been stuck at 30-31% since the 60's but minority college attainment is catching up to it. The people who were made to be unable to think through systemic inequality were given more opportunities. The people who were previously allowed to choose have run out of economic opportunities. The reality is that both the groups with the highest education AND the lowest incomes have traditionally voted further to the left but this movie equates intelligence to wealth in its opening scene. But... education has historically had little disparity in voting patterns for minorities and the phenomenon of lower-educated people voting to the right is a white phenomenon, not universal. Several of the characters treated as less intelligent and therefore producing more reactionary children in the opening sequence are non-white, which doesn't reflect even the truth of the argument Mike Judge is making. Furthermore, and the most important part of all of this, Mike Judge makes several very clear systemic critiques that aren't based on eugenics: scientists aren't less intelligent, they're owned by corporations; the world is defouled and cored out by corporations, corporations own the planet. Corporations, it is hinted, are the real people who made society stupid. Then he does more eugenics at the end. Because this movie is fundamentally about eugenics and not the real systemic corruption Mike Judge can clearly see but can't coherently explain.
Also, note, poor people don't have power. Princeton pointed out in 2014 that the top 10% of wealth owners dictate policy. This peaked in a year with genocide, record cop-killings, record poverty, and record deportations -- under Democrats, who ran on more of this. 10 million Democrats stayed home. Trump got the same number of votes and won by 3 million votes. We didn't get dumber. Smart people, who aren't all rich, lost control of both parties to rich people, who don't have to be smart.

And there was no slight majority about it. It was a political slaughter. No one is buying what you’re selling. Get that through your head or keep losing elections.
Wait... Trump winning by 1% is a landslide?
Trump has won the 44th largest electoral victory in history. 44 out of 60.
Biden was a landslide. Trump is just a normal election. 😂
Wow, you really deleted my responses here where I clarified that a) I didn’t vote for Trump, I voted for Harris, and that b) the radical left CENSORS EVERYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH THEM. Incredible.
Not sure why you need to bring politics into your channel. Such a shame. You have lost me as a follower
I talk about science fiction. As a genre it is inherently political.
I will always be on the side of the oppressed and the hope for an equal and fair future for all people. This is what science fiction is about.
Life is political when peoples rights are on the line and when governments control our futures.
You cannot ask humans to ignore politics because it makes you uncomfortable
There's no need to announce your departure. Just leave.

BYE!!!
Stick to science. The better (winning) team is in charge now and big irreversible changes are ahead. You’d best make peace with it. Kick and scream all you want.
Uhm, this video was about science and science fiction. Political parties aren't sports teams. I don't need to make peace with anything. I truly hope you get everything they promised to do!
Could you point to the part where I 'kicked and screamed'?
You're proud of your dimwittery - fine. But as seen in the days since 5 Nov, Trump is headstrong on nominating pro-ignorance (e.g., RJKjr.) and that will pay off the worst kinds of dividends.

th-cam.com/video/cLgRC8MNBco/w-d-xo.html This TH-cam will explain a lot about why Trump won and Harris lost. In short basic needs of the people are not being met. Things like putting food on the table & safety are basic needs as explained in the video.
In a country with a remarkable economy according to several experts and economists, and lower crime rates than in TRUMPS FIRST ADMINISTRATION. Laughable and enervating. You just confirmed all the points she was making.
@@dias040282 Lower crime rates now vs 4 years prior. That is a gravely mistaken statement.
Believe what you want to believe. I'll tell you why I voted for Trump, and the reasons are... The economy with record inflation. Immigration, especially illegal immigration that also ties in with crime rates going way up.
The Lefts view on the whole trans issue on not knowing what a woman is doesn't help them much if you wanna talk about science.
Trump can be compared to a silly movie from 2006, but you could do the same thing with the Left. Look at California for example, it is bankrupt, millions of homeless people, crime off the charts, trans surgery for people in prison paid for by the taxpayers and no ID required to vote.
Harris lost for a lot of good reasons, but will Trump do a good job and clean the country up? That remains to be seen.
@@dias040282 the price of gasoline is over $5 a gallon in California. I'm not sure where you're getting your information from about the economy in the United States but inflation is over 20% from the last year.
Things like the trans issue or women's rights on abortion definitely take a second seat against issues like the economy and illegal immigration when voting for a president for pragmatic working Americans.
@@Skevic222 the average cost of gas in California is 4.6-4.8 USD and California has higher gas prices than the rest of the US. California is not the complete US. The average price of gas in the whole US is 3.89 USD per gallon of premium. Down from last week and down from a year ago.
@@Skevic222 inflation rate in September 2024 was 2.4%, inflation rate in September 2023 was 3.7% (according to the Consumer Price Index). How is that a 20% increase?
