      Reminds of Jon Stewart when he spoke to Congress regarding funding for 9/11 responders medical assistance. First responders and/or their families sat there to a bunch of empty seats. The disrespect is amazing.

      Closed circuit TV in every office. The senators have their version of zoom and often work from their offices and only go to the floor for votes. There is an underground shuttle between the capital building and the offices that anyone can use. When a vote is called only senators are allowed on the shuttle to facilitate rapid return to the floor.

      Bc he is a radical. He refuses to compromise on his ideals. It's why he doesn't even have all the liberals on his side. Now it's nice in a story but in real life as a politician you need to be able to compromise with others on the political spectrum to contribute to passing policy that can actually make a change. I like Bernie, but I would never in a million years expect conservatives to like a guy who's suggesting a bunch of added taxes for social services. You have to meet these people in the middle.

      Never going to happen. Trump has had two quite credible assassination attempts that directly linked to gross secret service failures, likely these lapses were deliberate. Trump has been forewarned and unlike Sanders does have the means to protect himself. The push to eliminate a viable Sander election run would be even worse. Sanders does not have those means and likely would not have the luck. Sanders major value is exposing what is going on. He will not be able to effectively change anything directly.

Bernie was in protests during the civil rights movement. I don't think anyone can live up to him. I'll take what I can get for a better society though. We've got to get money out of government if anything is ever going to change. I don't like to support a potential murderer, or violence (I'm a pacifist), but something has to fundamentally change.

      It is quite hard for this candidate representing the people to win votes in the existing situations, where power and money are closely intertwined and support one another. Consequently, they are capable of effectively dominating the masses' voice and welfare. Simply put, the offering from mass Joe cannot compete with that of capital/money, and the power has long been gradually shifted in favor of the big buck. Fight the good fight, a losing battle though.

      Congress needs to raise the cap on SS income...it's capped at $176100. Let it take the cap off completely.
      If the government can tax my small income completely and also tax my SS...the very rich can pay the same rates as the middle class...they have the money...
      Also, this tax abuse by the elite, not paying much, if at all, is a joke.
      The rich and elite have manage to pay or hire tax lawyers who use loopholes in the tax rules and policies.
      We need to hire people who are as trained to hold the elite and big corporations to PAY UP...if you can tax the poor and middle class on all their income and let the connected off the hook, is BS.
      America wake up...with out the workers they would mostly fail and their companies would be closed. Also, people watch where you spend your money and invest money...give and shop with companies who pay fair wages and benefits and are involved in your community.
      Stand up and fight for rights we use to have ...
      Taken away by big business slowly over a few decades.

      A former coworker of mine did not like a progressive tax system, I have never understood why people do not want billionaires to pay a higher percentage, especially when they overwhelmingly benefit from the system.

      Social Security is a program that insures our weakest and most vulnerable dont go hunger. It used to be if you were old you are below the poverty level. Social Security changed that. Your taxes all the time go to help the bigger societal goals.

    I have a good story about Bernie Sanders.
    In November 2017, I was able to travel to DC. I was given permission with my son to visit the Capitol building. I got clearance to go into the rafters. Lo and behold, Bernie Sanders along with several other senators were there. During this visit the other senators were ranting and raving about the Astros winning the World Series. Bernie, being who he is, got his chance to speak. First thing that came out of his mouth: “Mr. president, forgive me for this. Why are we talking about the Astros winning the World Series when children are about to lose their access to the CHIP program? You have time to take this business outside of the floor. It does not belong here. We need to make sure children who cannot be covered by Medicaid have access to affordable health insurance! ****doing the hand gestures*****”
    I’ve been a fan of Bernie sanders since the day I could first vote. It’s been over 20 years.
    Mr. Sanders, you’ve always fought for what’s right for the lower class and average citizen. For that, you will always have my utmost gratitude.

      Agree, but this will only happen if we overturn Citizens United. The 2 party system has been a failure for the United States. But Bernie as President could do very little with the current two party system. MOST Americans don’t vote and of those that do, 30% are independents. We need a president and Congress that represents ALL the people not just the ones who pay $$$ for it.

    I only wish everyone in DC took their oath as seriously... or has that behavior forever vanished from view? Tenacity related to seminal issues (not just lip service) needs to be the rule, not the exception. Maybe in another hundred years things might change, but until government is not about finding the loopholes in public policy & exploitative dismissal of OUR public requests, we the people will not trust our own policies or representatives. "IT's not rocket science" and requires nothing more than doing the right thing.

      I'd love to be like Bernie, and I know it makes me sound like an idealistic kid; I'm 19.
      That's the only way I can imagine myself living in this world, because of the insanity of how much corruption there is, how much we don't know, and how divided we, THE PEOPLE, have become due to our so-called representatives. The government is meant to guarantee us our absolute basic needs, and yet we stress and worry about healthcare, housing, food, things any country should offer.
      We fight over micro-details Democrats and Republicans make a macro-issue while we can't afford education anymore, murders happen more than they should, and we indirectly fund wars and causes we never agreed upon, it's all insanity, it's all to hide the reality of what we actually are as a nation.
      These people who claim to serve the American best interests are the reason 8% of the population have no health insurance. They're the reason inflation has become indescribable. They're the reason behind countless innocent deaths and countless unjustified "wars". They're the reason that we went from the example of law and order at a time when monarchs and imperialists ruled to a power-hungry, economic imperialist nation that penalizes any country for not abiding by the interests of the powerful in America, leaving innocents scrambling for life, which we as the people see as "their problem" when we created this entire mess.
      We won't change unless we finally realize that the people who serve in the legislative, judicial, and executive branches are not loyal to the Constitution of the United States, nor are they true believers of God to even swear an oath by God, because if you truly took God seriously, you'd have a heart to stop people from dying and provide basic needs for everyone, and as the Rome of today, use our privilege as the strongest country in the world with responsibility and justice. That should be the core interests of said branches, it's very simple to implement if that's the true aim, survival is simple, and costs less than investing in creating things that don't exist yet just to be ahead of the "competition", and doesn't need any "complex answers" contrary to what the media and politicians make you believe, we don't guarantee basic needs and solving that is a non-issue to them.
      We're directly contributing to the growth of the powerful who manipulate the whole process, indirectly abiding by lobbied interests, and intelligence services interests, all to benefit a handful few people and the rise of ideologies we don't realize we're contributing towards, all hidden behind this plethora of dopamine to make us engaged with all this, to reach a dream that now constitutes of living with access to essential needs. All this and they justify with "abiding by the constitution".
      The Declaration of Independence explicitly states "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.-That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - *That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness*".
      We opposed the British for violating our basic rights with their destructive, blood-thirsty, and power-hungry need for power. If this is what made the country's independence remarkable and revolutionary, we hold the right to oppose a government that doesn't abide by the pillars of our constitution. The actions and decision-making of this government don't demonstrate any sort of commitment to any of life, liberty, and the pursuit of justice; pointing that out will be regarded as unconstitutional, or with our nowadays throwing around of words, "socialist" or "communist" or "conspiracist" or "terrorist", completely disregarding the main picture.
      Wow, great rant. Granted, they had it coming.

    Raising the min wage is not enough. You are letting too many employers get away with not offering full time jobs. They have to offer benefits if they give you a full time job in FL, so what do they do? Limit the number of hours everyone can work and limit the number of full time jobs available.
