In German we don’t call the knight horse (would be “Pferd”). We say “Springer” meaning jumper. I guess because it doesn’t move in straight lines but rather jumps around on the board. Similarly the bishop isn’t called “Bischof” but instead “Läufer” meaning runner. Further rook -> “Turm” (=tower) and queen -> “Dame” (=lady)

The phrase “it’s just chess” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice. There’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.
