Hi Peter & Cathy I am amazed that you have been able to continue posting on Friday, given all the travel you are undertaking in remote locations. I am loving following your adventure from afar. All the best to you both!
Watching these episodes really fires up the adventure spirit in one, your gift for sharing the History and Cathy’s gift for Cinematography makes the adventure you share come to life. I wasn’t aware the Rush only lasted two years 🤔 Have you met any subscribers along the way?
WOW! Peter and Cathy. People travel all over this world seeking beautiful scenery and exciting things, and we have it all right here. Thank you for another video covering, what may be the best of the best. Be careful and have fun.
I really liked Peter's commentary on the Dawson City part of the gold rush. The scenic overlook of the city was really a spectacular backdrop for a wee bit of history. Both of your expressions when visiting the poets' cabins was touching. Cathy looked completely takin in sitting in the chair at the Service cabin. Very nice camera work with the scenic panoramas and the old town buildings.
What a great tour of the area and the history lesson. I am sure you were happy to see the blacksmith shop building. Be safe on your adventure and will be waiting for more great videos along the way. I almost did not recognize you in the clothing.
Did the 'fever' (gold) get 2 U Emperor Peter or Empress Catherine? How many lives were affected in countless ways with the burgeoning of this wee spot on the map? = AMAZING! For 'better or for worse'. How many stories told and never written. Only a balanced man can outweigh the temptations to a lesser life in such a milieu...yes, like 'gold' tested in fire. The place itself is a gem of beauty...but how many could simply enjoy the 'observings' without the need to overwhelm? I find it interesting how writers were drawn to Dawson...surely there was more 'gold' to mine in stories than in any 'finds'. Now Joe Ladue, found fortune more as a 'developer' and even after all that fortune...lived only to the age of 45! I find the quotes of Jack London quite rich..."The proper function of a man is to live and not to exist." and then; "Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes, playing a poor hand well." Thanks 4 sharing young adventurers! Health and God Bless! :)
Words can simply not describe the Beaty of this part of Canada. We are north of the Arctic Circle on the Dempster Hwy. Two flats yesterday. We have about a 4 day wait to get some new ones. Great place to be stranded!
Peter, I don't know how to describe the feeling I get when I watch your videos, and how you take us back in time on how people and towns have changed over the years, but I could watch your channel every day or life! Thank you for taking us through your journeys.
You’re really blessed to be able to travel this historic route. Not just the physical part, but having a wife that enjoys is too. I don’t know which gold rush, Californian or Canadian, but some fellow, who was a Mormon, not only did the same thing you described, but also advertised down south about the gold, and largely contributed to the whole rush to sell materials.
Loved the wildlife shots at the beginning and interesting to see the actual buildings and where the gold was first found. I have read Call of the wild and White Fang and will now find a copy of To Light a Fire. Good luck to you both with the canoe trip, can hardly wait to see the next video.
Wow! Such a great adventure makes such an exciting video - beautiful... I live in Dahlonega, Georgia. (Lumpkin County) Twenty years before the 1849 gold rush to California, thousands of gold seekers flocked into the Cherokee Nation in North Georgia, beginning the nation's first major gold rush. The towns of Auraria and Dahlonega grew and prospered with this mining activity. Between 1838 and 1861. ....... The county next to Lumpkin County is Dawson county and its county seat is Dawsonville... the name of the Yukon Gold Rush city name.
Thank you Peter for taking us along on your journey north, Dawson City Yukon as been on my bucket list for a long time but i am still hopeful on making the trek north someday
Fascinating history in this one Peter! I don't know much about that gold rush - but it certainly must have been an interesting and difficult time for those risky enough to try and strike it rich! Keep up the great adventures! Cheers my friend!
A wee bit of history! Thank you for the awesome frontier aura of your videos. They truly bring me peace and happiness with my morning coffee checking out your latest video. Go west young man!
Very cool. Hope you have a great trip and looking forward to hearing about it. I was in Dawson for the first time a few years ago, had some time to kill so found a trail at the edge of town leading up the side of a mountain. I was a bit surprised when I reached the summit and found a paved parking lot there! I'm pretty sure that's the same view point you were at in the beginning of the video. Hope to get back there sometime before this summer is over. I grew up listening to Robert Service. My Mom memorized "The Cremation of Sam McGee". "The Spell of the Yukon" really speaks to us who are drawn to the north country.
Just came off an Alaskan Cruise and the train ride from Skagway to Carcross. Was looking for more history on the Klondike and this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!
at one time the WHITE PASS RailWAY ran from Skagway to Whitehorse, & vice versus,, picked up the Ore from , Faro Yukon, CYPRUS ANVIL MINE ( trucked down to Whitehorse ) & then Loaded onto the Trains & off to Skagway to the Ships ,,,
Thanks Peter and Cathy...great history and so many colourful characters. Jack London aside, would love to know the story behind Diamond Tooth Gertie 💎 😊
Thank you for sharing this, my wife and I just got back to Ontario after working in Dawson City from May to mid September, with the folks we met and all the historical sites it was the best summer we ever experienced ❤ Cheers, you have new subscribers 👍
Thank you Peter. In 1976, I was able to make the Chilcoot Pass trip and paddle the Yukon to Eagle. Tracing the steps of those tough prospectors. It was a very different trail compared to these days but it was a wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing your video for those who have never seen it or like me, enjoy reliving it.
Fantastic! I wanted to hike the Chilcoot Pass but, was warned it has almost become a destination place with line ups on the trail … Not my cup of tea. Glad to bring back some good memories for you.
What incredible scenery - especially if you're not slugging it out thru that snow. The "service industry' hasn't changed much, a lot less work for a lot more money!! Considering the relatively simplicity of the build, is the maintenance & reconstruction cost & skill level prohibitive? Enjoy the trip!! It's great from my end.
So happy to have found your channel. I just finished reading "Klondike Fever," by Pierre Berton, for the umpteenth time. If I were only forty years younger!
Peter, if you and Cathy can wait a few minutes I will slip on my jeans and grab my paddle and met you on the Banks of the Dawson! Then we can get down to some serious gold hunting! Good luck and safe journey!
Having read ‘To Build A Fire’; and having some understanding of winter, coming from Montana, my reaction in the first few pages was ‘This stupid bastard is going to die out there.’ I agree, it is a heart wrenching tale.
Fun fact... a Long LONG time ago way back in 1989 I took part in the Midnight Dome run at Dawson City. I placed third, from last. haha I was young and the road was long for short legs. haha Beautiful provincial camp ground on the other side of the river. I remember the fireweed fondly.
Howdy Peter Nice story .... how close were you to the buffalos and the bear ? The cabin Cathy walked up on ... the stairs reminded me of a " roll top desk " ! Could you have walk in to the old buildings ... were they safe ? Felt so much going back in time .
Another great video! Always enjoy your excitement when sharing your "Wee bit of History". There was one distracting part of this video though, you were wearing jeans! Ha Ha... Just kidding.

Just a note on names that you are having trouble pronouncing. Many years ago,my son and I walked the Chilcoot Pass ( not Chilacoot as you pronounce it) leaving from Dyea (not Dye as you call it). The correct pronunciation for the mining of loose gold in streams is like the sound of plasser not placer. As an old geologist I cringe when I hear such gaffs.

Hello from Dawson City, I've been here for over 6 months. Survived the winter, frosts were down to -50°
Beautiful part of the world and you’ve survived your first winter, congratulations.

Getting Déjà vu from reading Will Hobbs book "Jason's Gold". Great book
I was just trying to think of that title! Thanks.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out.
