Those square headed screws are an interesting item. Invented in Canada and called the "Robertson" head, they were used to assemble Henry Ford's car frames and wood pieces. Henry Ford liked them so much, he tried to buy the Robertson patent and company. When denied, he then contracted for a newly invented "Phillip" headed screws. My experience, the Robertson is more easily used over multiple fittings without stripping. The Beauty is in the details!
The job looks massive and I only hope you aren't wasting your money and time trying to rebuild something that I think is past it? Be careful of the rudder rebuild as the rudder takes a lot of weight when sailing and I also think it should have an upper support bearing inside the boat as it looks a poor set up. Good luck. Ian

Brass hinges! I started cleaning one of them, it's looking good! Will share the results soon
