I can't thank all of you enough for the support on this series. it's been a lot of work but worth it. We basically started the swap/project Feb 1. 2024. I still have a lot of little details working through. And dont worry, this is not the end of seeing this car.. ;)
Charles, you are amazing, the car is crazy❤ i love it, makes me miss my sportsvan so bad, seeing your videos makes me wanna buy an mk7/7.5 again i felt your pain when the roofliner didnt go in as it supposed as i did my old passat variant with suede and took me 6 months and 3 roofliners to get it okish, best of luck and enjoy the ride
Agreed. I’m close enough to Holly Springs that I know I’ll contact them if I ever need work done. It’s worth driving an hour and a half or so for that kind of quality.
@ObsydianXshinsoo A lot of new cars come with an orange peel affect to the paint. My 2018 MK 7.5 GTI has the same orange peel affect in the paint and it's pure white. It looks good still. So if they were trying to match the factory "orange peel" look to the yellow paint when it was stock, they did an amazing job. I had a fender replaced on my car, and the body shop told me they have a process that helps them match any factory orange peel.
@bjsmithart I'm in Georgia, but since I travel for work, driving to another state for great mechanical or body work is an afterthought for me. If I ever need any work done, I'll be taking it up there as well. Amazing work.
Remember 9 or 10 years ago when the Golf R400 was lurking around Europe and we were doing the pee pee dance hoping VW would be able to take it across the goal line? Well…thank you Charles for finally taking that baton and winning! Long live the Phoenix!
When you were saying "with some help from my super talented friends" I thought you were going to add "... and Paul." I was kind of surprised you didn't. ;)
@@HumbleMechanicOn that note, I was surprised that John’s face wasn’t in the closing B-roll, although you did mention him by name. I know you were short on time for WITW but it did feel like a snub… 🤷🏻♂️
The “finale” … LOL. You know better than that! Such an awesome build. The attention to detail and love for the platform ooozzzzes through. But, projects are never finished.
OTOH, many projects are "never finished" meaning that you never get to the state where the car actually runs. This one is maybe "never finished", but they still "finished" it in ~2 months, which is absolutely incredible!
You are beyond a “Humblemechanic.” You’re a great showman and automotive show personality. You deserve that car because you make a difference. Great guy with a great car. A plan (despite it ever evolving), hard work (snafus, setbacks, etc), good friends/family, and patience make dreams come to fruition. Nicely done.
Phenomenal project. Not fully sold on that oettinger-kit, brings flashbacks to the mid-2000's and some polos 6n2 and 9n* that drove around in the carscene here in Denmark. By coincidence they were also yellow 😊
This is no longer a Golf R. It’s a hybrid mix of RS3 and R. A completely different vehicle now. An exercise in technical skill and ingenuity. Many kudos, Sir Charles of long beard!!!
Whooooaaaahhh ! Man Chuck when i see this thing all done i... i..... i no words to describe my emotions. Maybe im a bit sensitive but it was goose bump and something happens in my eyes like it hitch or something id it feel like it's near to leaks !!!! As always one of the best build ever done with a MK7 R body. Now i look around for 4 years and finally found a engine core CRZA to be build and swap in my mk6 R. So i remind my knowledge with Paul old series FSI build like the time it was very serious in video and look a Teenager!!! Pretty impressive and the best channel for VAG car ever HM. ! Tks for the joyride on this one.
A true one of a kind -- just like its owner. Congrats to everyone involved in this mind-blowing project. And thanks for recording it all for posterity. I'm happy you were able to finish it safely with WITW serving as a "deadline." Wish I could go and see it in person!
big Golf guy here my first car was a Mk3 VR6 . Always wanted a Mk4 or Mk5 Golf R32 or Mk7 Golf R .... Loving that Golf Oettinger kit idk if i like the black pieces that come down the window of the hatch from the wing but congrats on ur dream mk7
You did nail it. I hope VW is watching some how and learn what us enthusiasts would pay for. I don’t care how much this car would cost. I would buy one. Thank you Charles for the awesome content.
@@HumbleMechanicI think they do, they just don't make cars for them. I highly suggest taking a look at the Golf 5 GTI W12-650, it's parked in the museum in Wolfsburg and it's beautiful. Seeing that in person changed a lot of what I thought of VW before.
I gotta be honest. When you did the air suspension and body kit I wasn’t thrilled. But seeing the end product I get it. It is truly amazing what you guys pulled off. Having done the most minor version of a retro fit on some of my vehicles in the past I have a lot of respect for your ability to wire and integrate all of the Audi pieces to the golf. You have built a masterpiece. Respect. 🫡
My weekly dose of "reminding myself to never attempt any sort of engine swap on a modern euro car" Love this series! Really stoked on the air ride too, I consider it a guilty pleasure as well 🤣
Thanks for all of your hardwork with this wonderful build series, it was very well done, and I appreciate all the effort you put into the car, as well as the editing for the series. Perfect way to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Thanks Charles!
The Oettinger Golf 7.5R was always my dream golf. You smashed this build and made it the ultimate golf mk7 by Rs3, swaping it. It looks absolutely stunning and classy. Well done on the great work, and I'm looking forward to more content on this car. Please, would you consider going for an Oettinger Wheel if possible.
Am Umar from Uganda. Am an ardent fan of this channel. i really appreciate the work you do. From this project am convinced that rebuilding a golf is not for a faint heart.
Charles, I think this is easily the coolest series you've made. Along the way we got to see a lot of of the hilarious moments with Paul, the amazing work that Juan and his team did on the body, and John's awesome air ride skills. I can't imagine how satisfying it is having all of this completed. The cost means nothing in the end, as long as it was everything you wanted and worth it to you. Great work man, I loved watching this whole transformation and the car looks sick!
What a build Charles, the level of workmanship from start to finish is other-worldly man 👌, so great to watch and captured in such detail as well. Keep the builds coming, you and your automotive buds are all legends 🤌.
I remember tagging Oettinger in your rebuild ideas post forever ago, seeing it done now is 1000% the best way it could have been redone. Hopefully this car roars into Lo’e Show, I need a picture of this next to my Oettinger R32
Juan and the fellas at Premier Auto Body truly live up to the premier name, I love watchin them work. Great Project man, looking forward to more content on the Golf R!
Those bronze wheels look good, but gloss black would go better, imo. Can't wait to see what's next. Thanks Charles. 👍 Btw, the Golf RS3 looks amazing. How does it drive with those wheel spacers?
This car is soo sick, amazing job Charles, and everyone else that helped make this fantastic build happen. It looks like it could have (should have) rolled off the factory floor like this.

Coolest Golf R possible. I cannot imagine how insane this feels to drive. The power has to be dramatic. I wish i was close enough to you to have you help me build my S5. We expect a drive video!!

I'm a volvo guy, but have mad respect for the automotive work and content you create. Well done, fellow 5 cylinder.
Another Volvo guy here with multiple 5cyl vehicles. The "force" drew me to this content. Once you go 5cyl, you never go back.

I would SERIOUSLY consider taking my car from NM to him to have him fix a few things from the previous owner and that’s saying a lot
This was some of the best VW content ever created in my opinion. Vw needs to hire you as the RDCC. (.:R department civilian consultant)
