    A few things to note here:
    1. People are saying that Gogoat will just give you miscellaneous blocks, and each "miscellaneous block" will change with the stage. That totally makes sense, I guess in my mind I put cobblestone as a miscellaneous block for some reason. That's pretty cool, and opens up a few other questions to cover
    2. Some folk are saying Steve DOES have his death animation from the game? I made the same environments as you'd use for the other unique death animations (Inkling with the ghost, Terry with his hat flying away, etc), but I guess there's more to it than that. Expect to see an update in the next video
    Sorry for any minor errors, he's still pretty new to me, but there's still so much left to cover. I'm real excited!
    EDIT: Okay I watched the footage of the Sakurai presentation again, where he was fighting the zombies, and I see what people are talking about. I dunno, I feel like that's way more subtle than I was imagining. Like, yeah, they fall down similar to Minecraft, but I feel like the similarities aren't as 1-to-1 as I would've hoped. But I guess it is KINDA there still, so I'll have to mention that in the next video, testing with Fox's lasers or anything that won't deal knockback, I guess.

    I've realized something: Everytime a new character gets added now, and thus a new stage, Sakurai and his devs will have to tinker every nook and cranny of said stage to make it mineable.
    Kinda like how they have to work on Kirby to have the Copy Ability work. Steve and co. will be always on their minds regardless of the new character.

    • @Liggliluff
      @Liggliluff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      At least it will be less work than when Steve was added. When they added Steve, they had to fix all stages. But when they add the future 4 stages, they only have to fix a total of 4 stages. But you're right that this is more work than the DLC before Steve.
      For Kirby, that's also true, but that's always been the case, since Kirby was on the very first game. If Kirby was added as DLC, then that would be similar to the Steve situation.

    There are four different types of blocks that can be in the match. Misc, Wood, Stone, and Iron. Misc is dirt, sand, ice, etc. In stage builder, Misc is always dirt so it doesn't mix with other types of Misc block types. To my knowledge, there should only be one type of Misc mineral at a time, each stage has it's own, with most being dirt. Gogoat most likely counts as the Misc type mining, meaning he will get whatever type of Material the stage correlates with. There are four types of ground, we'll call them dirt, wood, Stone, and Metal. Gogoat counts as dirt, and the Box counts as Wood. The tool you use however, just be unique with Ice

    Gogoat is probably meant to always give you dirt
    But on stages with "special" miscellaneous blocks (sand/wool/ice), they probably replace dirt blocks or something. That's probably why you get ice blocks and still use a shovel
    I should probably test this on some stages where you can get "special" and "common" blocks to see what happens there (I can't do it now though. Probably no one cares so that's not a big deal)

    Gogoat gives you ice on summit bc in those stages that replace dirt for wool or ice, dirt gets completly "deleted" form the stage; you cannot get dirt on sumit or magicant, but scince wool and ice replace dirt on those stages, gogoat (a dirt-like surface) gives you "that stage's dirt). Steve fact: If you mine on Pikmin stage, Battlefield style, you will mine with shovel in the middle and and the edges, with the axe

  • @Sparkjolteon
    @Sparkjolteon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    As far as I can tell, the way it works is that there's four different materials you mine. Miscellaneous, Wood, Stone and Iron. Miscellaneous is dirt by default, but certain stages change it aesthetically into wool, sand or ice. Gogoat is always going to give you the misc material, but in some maps (like Summit) that dirt could look like ice instead.
    The tool you use also seems like a separate mechanic from the materials you get, even if they frequently match? You can see it in how Omega stages still use a fitting tool for the stage despite the material order being fixed. So, that's why Gogoat uses the shovel instead of the pickaxe even when it gives you ice.
    As a sidenote: mining on the Bulborb gives you dirt too! I wonder if you can mine Exeggutor for wood, actually. Haven't tested that yet.

    I think the misc materials are set in stone for each stage so as to not have two materials in the same inventory. Gogoat might be recognized as grass ground so you use a shovel, but using the first rule leads us to Gogoat giving ice or sand instead of dirt. I'm guessing that if you mine Gogoat on Yoshi's Story it will give you wool.

  • @TrueLucinova
    @TrueLucinova 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the reason Stage Builder only has Dirt is so there's only one misc. block available on a single stage; as for Gogoat, it seems to just give you the misc. block for whatever stage you're on

  • @JackBond1234
    @JackBond1234 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think each stage has a defined "Miscellaneous" set, and Gogoat gives you that, whatever it is for the stage. If you're on an ice stage, you won't get dirt from anywhere, only ice. If you're on a wool stage, only wool.
    They probably didn't set resources for everything you can stand on, so they defaulted to "miscellaneous" if you're standing on something that's not specifically handled.

  • @boxdude10
    @boxdude10 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the way the Gogoat works is that it will always dig the "dirt" type in that stage. I've not tested this myself, but I'm thinking that all stages only have Dirt, Ice, or Wool and can't have dirt and ice etc. So the reason Gogoat gives you Ice on Summit and Dirt on Great Cave is because that is the "Dirt" block that's set on the stage

    The reason custom stage materials such as sand, ice, and cloth don't give you the corresponding materials and just give dirt is because Steve can only hold 1 type of miscellaneous block (dirt, sand, wool, ice) at a time, yet custom stages can have multiple ground material types. They likely just defaulted to making everything give dirt since there would be no other instance of Steve holding multiple miscellaneous blocks, and would just make things more confusing.

    The reason you get ice on Summit using Gogoat and why stage builder only gives you dirt is because sand, wool, and ice are all reskins of dirt. This means you cannot have multiple of these blocks on a specific stage. This means when mining on Gogoat, you get the skin for dirt in that stage, but use the tool for dirt, which is the shovel. And for stage builder, since you can’t have multiple skins for the dirt, you always get dirt, but you use the tool that corresponds to what you are mining.

    Sand, wool, dirt, and ice are all equivalent. They are all grade one materials as Sakurai puts it. Depending on the stage it will chang which is why you still get sand when digging the grass of Tortimer’s island and why gogoat will give you ice on summit instead of dirt (because of the grass on him)

    If I had to guess why no custom stage materials give you wool, sand or ice, it would be that there can only be 1 misc block per stage (taken by dirt) because the misc block is placed first before wood, and having multiple types might be complicated. With how varied custom stages can be, they'd just have dirt to be safe.
    You can see how Steve and Zombie both only have sand on the beach despite it looking like it might be possible to get dirt

    I’m pretty sure gogoat is like mining on dirt/grass. It only ended up being ice on summit because ice is pretty much a reskinned dirt block, same goes for sand and wool. It makes sense that it would work like that since gogoat is a grass type.

  • @Astrojandro

    I think they wanted to make it so that there's only one type of miscellaneous block per stage and that's why in stage builder you can only get dirt as a miscellaneous block.
    EDIT: I guess that's also why Gogoat can give you ice, because he's suposed to give you dirt but the miscellaneous block in that stage is ice.

    Really interesting facts: When every character uses their final smash, the shot of their eyes is a cropped version of the model. You can see this with characters whose models are inaccurate. What USED to happen before the first patch of the game was if Lucas used the final smash the wrong way like in your combo video, a tiny part of the rope snake would appear at the bottom left corner.

  • @kadabraguy9846

    Something about custom stage materials: what likely is happening is that all the miscellaneous materials are programmed the same way. So dirt, ice, sand, and wool all have the same properties. You'll also notice that on stages with those elements, they replace the dirt that Steve normally spawns in with. My guess is that the game treats all 4 of these materials as variants of one material, and only swaps them in if it's for an appropriate stage. And since custom stages can have several types of terrain, and therefore can carry two or more of the miscellaneous materials, the game just defaults all of them to dirt.

    Here's a fun fact: Steve's textures are the same resolution as the default player texture in Minecraft (64×64) and are UV mapped the same way, meaning most player skins can work with him. I haven't seen Steve's model up close, but I can confirm that the Creeper Mii hat is an incredibly low poly model with only eight vertices total, like a default cube in Blender, meaning Steve's Smash model might just be a straight port from Minecraft. I'll check back in if it is, but I can confirm the texture bit is true.

  • @lickilicky64
    @lickilicky64 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the reason why the custom stage ground types mainly give dirt instead of sand/ice is because they don't want Dirt/Sand/Ice/Wool to overlap. Seems that only one "miscellaneous" block type can be on a stage, so to account for the fact that you could have ALL the custom stage grounds in one stage, they just made a majority of the random ones dirt, including Sand and Ice.

  • @Jojo-on7pk
    @Jojo-on7pk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think each stage can only have one miscelanious type of block. That explains a couple things:
    -most of the custom stage materials all give dirt instead of various things because you can make stages with different miscelanious blocks.
    -Gogoat gives the miscelanious block from the stage. that's why he gives Ice on summit, dirt on great cave offensive etc.

    Here’s two facts that are important for air mining:
    1. Usually you can’t place blocks below the stage after you grab the ledge, but spawning an anvil below you bypasses that and lets you place blocks freely again
    2. Placing an anvil on the side of a block doesn’t damage the block, so it’s a better way to sit on a single block offstage and/or mine resources while airborne.

    Other people have probably said this, but for Dirt, Sand, Ice, and Wool, the materials are all considered the same, and the materials you get change on the stage you're on. That's why you get Ice on Summit and Sand on Tortimer's Island instead of dirt. You can also see this at the start of his gauge. Unfortunately, they made it so all custom stages will count as dirt instead of anything else.
