Well okay then, I understand calling out people for not knowing their stuff but it’s still true, they were in a defensive alliance with Germany and Austria, which would obviously mean they can’t attack each other. Germany’s argument was that Russia declared war on Austria which was true. But Italy argued that Austria declared war on Serbia first, which is uh... not exactly true but in a legitimate enough position to be said. That in its own is worthy of being considered betrayal... but Italy sided with the Entente anyway which is definitely betrayal.
And I realize you’re likely just a troll but I want to clear up the information for everyone else.

Presumably, to show why World War I, despite most people's preconceived notions, was in the video's estimation "only" the 6th-deadliest conflict on record. The video contends the 60-year Chinese Three Kingdoms war was even more horrific...I am not a historian in a position to debate or confirm that contention, but the mention of those Three Kingdons, while admittedly rather tangential to the main topic, is not without merit.

My father was born in 1911. His family were forced to 'relocate' to a German community here in Texas. During WW-2, my father was already in the Navy when they got word about Pearl harbor. Because of my father being of German heritage, he was transferred to the Pacific Theater to combat the Japanese. The irony for me is that, although he didn't have a family until his 50s, I grew up around my German-speaking family, my Spanish speaking friends, and my father picked up enough Japanese to teach me a bit. As a result, I have friends all over the world that, thanks to the internet today, I'm able to keep in almost daily contact. One thing I will always be grateful for is that I ended up with a very diverse viewpoint that would not have existed had both wars not happened.

Sometimes the crucible of war has a way of bringing people closer together in their aftermath. North and South were VERY different, and far apart culturally before the Civil War. While not ALL the bad blood was shed, we are now a FAR more unified country (at least North and South) than before the war.

    • @jackiez3290
      @jackiez3290 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

They clearly didn't, by the end of the war Germany had lost approximately 7.15 million soldiers (give or take 1 million), these are counted as casualties. However a casualty does not necessarily mean the soldier is dead, rather he is unfit to serve anymore (lost limbs, missing jaws etc.), only around 1.7 million (again, give or take 100,000) German soldiers actually died (mostly on the Western front). If any army had a casualty rate that high during the war the country would've must certainly fell into chaos and revolution (like Russia in 1917).

I'm not going to lie here, the British empire did most of the work on the western front, with the blockade of Germany and a attempted assault at a potential ally of Germany and Austria-hungary. At least in northern France. The French did a great job at holding and fighting the southern front, but there were many rebellions within their ranks. Russia was a great power, but didn't know how to use power properly, it just charged across a broad front. Only until they charge across a small front did they see some kind of success. The Americans joined far too late to make a effective effort.

In Flanders Fields was written by Canadian, John McCrae:
    In Flanders Fields
    John McCrae, 1872 - 1918
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

One time when they were to slow at restraining him he threw my (at the time 7 or 8 years old) mother across the room thinking that she was an enemy soldier. Though he had trouble with flashbacks the rest of his life these hallucinations and flashbacks did lessen up as he got older. When the British intercepted the message to the German ambassador in Mexico, it was not passed on immediately as the British did not want the Germans to realise that the British had broken their main code. The Americans received the message thinking that it had been a breach of security in the German Mexican embassy.

After listening to Dan Carlins hardcore history, I pretty much fascinated by WW1. It get's no media attention, since the USA barely touched it, but man, it was brutal.
D-day was also bad place to be, with 25% chance of survival, but it was a walk in the park compared with somme or verdun.
Just in the battle of somme, there were 60.000 casulties ON THE FIRST DAY, a total of 1.1 million people died, it was a meat grinder. The first 200.000 or so people had about 99.99% chance to be dead or crippled. Talk about heroic fights. Most of them never saw a enemy, just mowed down by machiene guns, mortar fire, gas attacks or land mines.
In WW2 you had least a chance to see an enemy and shoot at him. In WW1? You were lying in a mortar hole, literally in toxic water and on top of about 500.000 people blown to pieces while being constantly shelled and shot at. They said the shelling was like drumming. They didn't even exaggerate. Millions of shells were fired in a short time.
It's just really brutal, if WW2 bad, than WW1 must be hell on earth.

hey dont sell it short, the US's entry in the war was the very factor that brought it to an end. The Michael Offensive in late 1918 puttered out against a now beefed up Allied Army. Since the americans had gotten combat experience under the french, and then let loose under Pershing, the German army had to face the facts that they were not going to be able to win. America didn't win the war, but we are why it ended.

Indeed. The video probably mixes up German South West Africa (now Namibia) with what was then the Union of South Africa (a British dominion that fought as part of Allies) and the Maritz Rebellion, an attempt to reestablish the South African Republic (the Transvaal). The rebellion was swiftly put down and South Africa occupied German South West Africa, occupying the territory until Namibia's independence in 1990.
There's also no mention of Germany's others colonies - such as present-day Cameroun, Togo, Tanzania, Samoa - which were also confiscated by Allied nations.
And why aren't Australia and New Zealand listed as part of the British Empire?

Did it worth for the whites in South Africa to fight for the allies? How are they treated now?

    • @chch_chris
      @chch_chris 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, most English-speaking South Africans would've identified with Britain and fought for the Allies in both world wars. Afrikaner nationalists would've preferred to side with Germany, who had supported them in the 2nd Anglo Boer War/South African War 1899-1902. That said, Louis Botha, South Africa's Prime Minister at the time and Jan Smuts (PM in WWII) were Afrikaner Generals who had lead the Boers against British (and Commonwealth) forces in the 2nd Anglo Boer War.
Artur, are you suggesting that siding with Germany in World War I (or II) would have made a difference and helped maintain white minority rule in South Africa and Rhodesia into the 21st Century? And are you implying white minority rule is preferable?

First of all, Pizza was not invented in Italy, it was actually invented in America. Second of all the Infographics show does put a lot of effort and research into their research.

#22 is wrong. Poppies have been associated with the battlefield since at least Babylonian times, and indeed all the trappings of the modern remembrance day traditions can be seen in pagan rituals through Egypt, Greece and Rome. They can be seen depicted on Greek and Assyrian altars, and were an integral part of their ceremonies to their gods of war, as were marching past the ossiary, presenting captured arms and banners to their ruler, the period of enforced silence to honour the fallen, and even the phrases "we shall remember them" and "our glorious dead" are straight from those pagan religious ceremonies.
People desperately want you to believe this stuff was just invented out of thin air at the start of the 20th century because they are unwilling to draw attention to the pagan symbolism the influential freemasons and occultists who instituted these traditions were all too aware of.

Er, no. No I'm not. Why would you think I said that? Was it a conscious attempt to distort what I actually said, or are you unable to think clearly?
I am saying (quite clearly) that the WAY we commemorate our fallen soldiers is because of pagan symbolism, and is as close to a recreation of those pagan ceremonies as the 19th century occultists in power who instituted them could manage.
      Are you disagreeing?

All true, but that is merely a revival of the flower's long association with war. I don't know if the author had connection with secret societies or the occult, but those establishment elites who widely published it in their newspapers were to a man, high level freemasons who would have been keenly aware of this ancient connection. The fact that the entire rememberance ceremony is a point by point recreation of these ancient pagan rites has been vociferously denied for a century, and we are still asked to believe that it is all a coincidence, makes me seriously doubt that the popularisation of that poem, conveniently justifying the symbolic placement of garlands of poppies and the wearing of poppies in rememberance of fallen loved ones to be revived, completing their ritual, was merely a coincidence either.

Where is the introduction of u-boats and the Dreadnought? Let alone the power of naval technologies that allowed Britain to hold intercontinental strength, this clip lacks the description of diplomacy in central Europe at the time. Middle and high school student go to your library. not this guy! P.S. The Germans kept their fleets in harbor in the fear that is the ships were lost, Britain now has the upper hand.

Fun fact: The license plate on the car that the Archduke was killed in had the license plate A111-118. World War 1 ended on an Armistice on November 11th, 1918. (the "A" on the license plate could have meant "Armistice") Creepy, right?
