      It's not actually about how they work, it's all down to "how much is this type of weapon feared". It's the reason why there's tons of states that allow spring assisted blades but not switchblades

    • @zigzagtoes
      @zigzagtoes ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thegarge7476 I was just going to say this (british). It's the percieved fear caused by the use of the knife. As someone with experience of confrontations, when someone shows confidence of showboating the weapon as an intimidation, anxiety (fight or flight) increases lots, and its likely the knifeman has now induced fear and distress (illegal) in anyone witnessing the act (victim or not).
      Carry an open blade, everyone knows what you're are up against. Still illegal, but the fear and distress isn't being increased by showboating and an unknown blade size and sudden blade movements (eg butterfly/switchblade).
      I once witnessed a guy in wales (tourist), carry a highlander like sword on his waist. He was dressed to go with the sword. Many around me called the cops in fear, me, I just continued my hike (a bit more distant though encase he were mentally disturbed), however, I wasn't in fear due to his demeanor. He ended up swarmed and arrested by what seemed like, the whole welsh police force.

    It is not much different in the rest of UK, like there used to be (maybe still is) that you can carry a knife if it is shorter than the width of your palm (so sort of ~2-3inch), but then it is so much to the police discretion. When we go camping I do carry a knife and I guess it would be ok, because then you can say - look I have these sausages, and vegetables and whatever... so you can basically if show the justifiable reason why you have the knife, you will probably be alright. But take the exact same knife to the park at night and you surely will be charged for having it, even if you had it in the pocket of you jacket which you used on your hiking trip last week and you forgotten to take it out you can be in trouble. Once police took my "swiss army knife" from me, now sure it is called "the knife", but it was one of those tiny ones I don't know 35mm blade (so basically an inch) and I just used it to pick nails and open the letters. Didn't charge me with anything but just took it away... basically police just robbed me LOL. As well I know they would do the same even if you had like sharp scissors, because when you buy scissors in shot they ask for ID (at least they did when I was ~19-20 i.e. teenager. and under 18 you can't buy them). Yeah fcuking scissors... so if you 16 and you need them for school you go with your mom!
    Overall the only thing I reckon I can get away with - I have massive breaker bar in the boot of my car, and I have long wheel lug nut socket on it. So if I ever asked I can plead it was not premediated as I carry it to undo wheel nuts (legit - if you ever try to undo one on the side of the road with tiny wrench they have included, then good luck), but it is serious tool... I think it is 910mm piece of solid hardened steel + the socket on the end... whack somebody with it over the head and I doubt they will have any further questions.
    But overall, self defence laws in UK are fcuking joke... basically it is 50/50 whenever you can get away with it or criminal who attacked you can claim that "the forced exceeded the reasonable force - I just wanted to rob him and he broken my nose... how is that reasonable"... It is ridiculous... police never comes, and if you try to defend yourself then you have to always be afraid not to hurt the thug attacking you. Like f-off - if I decided to fight that is last of the things I care about, I beat them until they run away or stop moving... and that is how it should be.

    Dank is pretty mistaken again, you're allowed to carry a non-locking folding blade 3 inches or under in length with no reason required, i.e. a multi-tool.
    If the blade is longer, or fixed/lockable you need a valid reason, i.e. for work, self defence is not a valid reason.

      yes, you could also get pistols in germany- but its ridicolously hard, requires you to open your door to unannounced police controls twice a year and youd have to be 7 years in a shooting club to even be eligable..... so you can get weapons, but have fun literally jumping through hoops for years making any show animal jealous....

      Only semi auto in .22 with a long barrel & rod at the back to increase the length IIRC. You cannot have any centrefire firearm in semiauto other than a 2+1 shotgun I think. So yes you're technically right but no you cannot get a typical pistol under a UK licence, the only exception are armed guards on UK registered ships.

    Switchblades, butterfly knives, and stilettos are quickly deployable and highly concealable. And AR-15 on your chest can be seen a hundred yards away. The switchblades we saw as kids were paratrooper knives, and a paratrooper has a need to deploy a knife with one hand to cut through parachute cords.

    In Florida, the carry permit is called a CWP (Concealed Weapons Permit) which means other weapons other than guns are covered including fixed blades and OTF knives. With the CWP you can concealed carry any pistol. Open carry is not permitted permit or not. I personally do NOT want to open carry because I don't want anyone to know what I am carrying.

    .22 and .17 air rifles definitely hurt a lot. I still have a scar on the back of my neck where my mate shot me with a .17 air rifle when we were fucking around as kids. It went right in and had to be dug out.

    Hi so my question is this. Being a Scottish American, a lot of people in the Celtic diaspora wear the kilt as a daily dress, not just a Scottish ancestry identity, but also as Celtic identity in general. And even in California where I live, Los Angeles, knife laws are really strict. But I can walk down the street in my kilt with a Sgian Dubh in my hose, and a sharpen blade and nothing will most likely happen. One because it’s considered a cultural accoutrement. So my question is this. What about wearing a Sgian Dubh With your attire in Scotland?

    10:06 its also illegal to have a knife that you DO use for work outside of work unless it is in a protective case inside another bag.(and you can prove you are travelling to-from work)

    The worst thing is the American Air rifles are are full power around 45 lbs and in Scotland its a sub 12 lbs still needing a licence. A high power air rifle is under a firearms license here. I carried a knife for work everyday and asking me what I needed it for the police would be ask well asking me what the string is for in the other pocket.
    The funny thing is that when I wear my kilt I am aloud to carry a 14 inch dirk.
