I'm really late here, but I think it would be quicker to just set 0 lash as shown then start putting more and more thickness worth of feeler gauges between the rocker and valve, again as shown, but after each change just rock the engine back and forth. When you feel the valve just start to hit the piston you are done because you have found the clearance. Also if you stop at the point where you feel them touch, IE the minimum clearance point, it can be read directly on the degree wheel.
Happy New Year to you and your family may you recive prosperity and Happiness always person like you makes this world a better palace i hope you keep doing what you are doing thnk you
I thought the R3s were 2Ts and only some of the last years of the Tritons (R4) were 4Ts. 2Ts don't have valves like these. If it is a 4T, then you'll have a valve cover at the top of the engine and see the valve springs and cam and rocker assembly under there.
Nothing, Triton R3's Spark Plug, 4- 12mm bolts removed, only see the piston. Plus Carburetor removed found no valves like one would see the valves after removing the valve cover on a Aura NSX. Are you saying there are no valve & no timing chain on this scooter?
Even more reason to know if it's right. You don't really have to go the whole degree wheel route for a quick check to make sure it's in the ballpark. You can use a screwdriver or something in the spark plug hole to make sure the piston seems to be at TDC when it's on that mark. Of course turning the engine gently by hand only for that purpose. Most likely, it'll be close. If you're dealing with Chinese stuff like I am mostly, there's a chance that it won't be, albeit slim.
Take one to a hardware store and see what they have that will match the diameter and height well enough. You can cut one down if it's too long. Should be cheap.

Thorough video, clear and concise information, great lighting.
Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
Checking the cam for proper tdc.... that's great info....

Thank you! Happy New Year!
How to remove valve springs simple. Put a socket on top of the retainer and hit with a 4lb hammer.
can we consider the 't' mark on the flywheel magneto as true tdc ??
You can hope it is. Most likely it's close, but not always. Have had one of mine 21 degrees off.
Why do you always set the lash to 0 to check this clearances?
To get rid of any play or slop. It's not needed or wanted for these checks.
my dealer recommends for my 50cc scooter to put the valve clearance 3 thousands and 4 thousands(in then out). what would u do?
Those are OK specs. People have their own preferences, but about 0.002-0.005" will work for the 139QMB.
90GTVert cool thanks. that what I have!
Hello I can't the valve location on Vento Triton R3 scooter, after removing the spark plug and those accessories. Can you help?

You have a 2T. They don't need all those extra moving bits.
but we always install cams with that t mark reference...
