This is the problem a lot of people are abusing the system which means it is making it hard for genuine people. This is the fault of the government also as they took away all checks and balances during Covid for mental health related benefits as emergency measures and never reinstated them. I know as I work in the agencies involved. I don’t blame those trying to milk the system as they have made it milkable and now can’t sustain it.

To be fair, dead people don't fill out surveys, so this data has some inaccuracies, but the successful suicides caused by the disability assessment process is estimated to be about 200 a year. This is what the benefit system does to the most vulnerable people, so it isn't exactly stress free to deal with them when they are less worried about actually killing people. My brother tried to take his own life around 6 years; ago. He overdosed on some OTC medication, and thankfully we were able to find him before it was too late; he was slumped over at my fathers gravestone (he’d died quickly from cancer 5years before). He spent almost 2 weeks in hospital, having had his stomach pumped etc but there was damage to some of his internal organs. I remember at the time the absolute shit show he had to go through to get a sick note; doctor wouldn’t sign him off, not believing his was depressed. After a lot of unnecessary fighting, he eventually got a letter. I hate this narrative that its too easy to get a sick note, and everyone is skiving off from work. I hate these Tories. Hate them with all of my being.

People like you just annoy me. No nuance at all or critical thinking, just rich = bad/don't care. Sunak does have the right to spell his opinions on poverty if he wants too - he was born from first gen immigrants who worked hard. He also worked hard to get good grades. He even worked as a waiter during the summer holidays in a restaurant when he was a teenager. He later on got into the business sector. His parents and him obviously worked very hard to get to where they got too, so yeah... I think he can talk about poverty if he wants too.

@@InsightfulUndercurrents I get both meds on the NHS, it's £9.35 to fulfill each prescription monthly.
I pay for private therapy with my PIP money so thankfully I do get to choose who my therapist is, and it is helping me to develop coping skills for my anxiety and helping me to overcome some of the things from my past that have led to my MH being so bad. There is no "cure" for what I have, there's only making the best of it and hoping it'll be more manageable given time and effort to improve it.
My point was that if PIP is taken away from people because "they're only mentally ill and not physically incapable of working" then it will lead to far worse problems for those people who can no longer access the help they need.
Talk therapy should absolutely be more available on the NHS and there should be more freedom to be able to choose your therapist but that's not the circumstances we're in right now and a lot of people rely on PIP to access healthcare they would otherwise be unable to get.
