108 - Haunter Solo Run - Pokemon Blue

- Welcome to Episode 108 of my Kanto Randomiser Solo Run series where I aim to bring you one video for every single Pokemon from 001-151. Just to see if they can solo the game.
Each choice is decided by a randomiser wheel, then I choose one of the three spins to do the run with.
Rules
1. The wheel decides the choices
2. I can only use that pokemon for the run, but I am allowed HM Slaves
3. I can not heal in battle using items
4. I can utilise the badge boost glitch
5. I can use TM's & HM's
6. No double team
Love that dream eater is the most powerful psychic type move
Gets massively overlooked because in a way its a two turn move. Gotta use a sleep move first before its usable
Cool vid all i have to say lol he did good ghost typing is op in any gen cuz at the start its just normal moves and high sp atk and sp def with great moves especially bolt psychic and hypnosis one of the only mons that can beat all the starters easily also many people know that ghost does not affect psychic types in gen 1 but there is only 1 ghost type attack that does ghost type damage unlike night shade and confuse ray does no damage and the mons that get it the gastly line and jynx are physical attackers also cool how you use dream eater in both your drowzee run and haunter run never see many people even think about it also something funny is that so many mons learn dream eater but do not get sleep inflicting moves yeah wish haunter would have ice beam but it would not make sense ice punch would but only jynx and hitmonchan get it sad times would make it hit exeggutor for big damage innacurate sleep moves like sing and hypnosis are frustrating to use especially with dream eater when they wake up turn 1 and you have to sleep them again
Dream eater is a very unutilised move in my opinion 🙂 gastly line doesnt get another good move that can recover HP apart from rest or mega drain. Out of the three. Dream Eater is perfect for this line

Think in gen two it can learn punch moves. Just not gen one

I wonder how good this line is in gen two then because the elemental punches are brutal in gen two
Hahh, I agree with the other comments - it may defeat the purpose of a solo run but exploding Haunter is pretty dang funny

Haha I wonder if I could beat Pokemon Blue with a team of Pokemon who can learn self destruct and explosion 🤔
@@retrobrownsoloruns Hahh, sounds entertaining to me! That also gets me wondering if a self-destruct _only_ run would be possible (as in, having a full party of pkmn able to self-destruct, and only allowing yourself to use that move, so you have to 1 hit KO each opponent and end on your last taking out their last) but....... I'm guessing gen 1 would count that as a loss, even if your last fainting caused their last to faint...
Had more of a think about it on the train, it wouldnt be possible because the Ghosts in Lavender tower. Self destruct and Explosion are normal moves and cant hit ghosts.
Maybe a recoil move only run... 🤔 I'd have to check if there are recoil moves in gen one that arent only normal or fighting though
@@retrobrownsoloruns Ahhhh I wasn't thinking about ghost types, yeah you're right.
Awww, my follow-up was going to be "okay how about a _struggle-only_ run" rofl (assuming an emulator cheatcode to deplete all PP exists) but apparently gen 1 treats it differently than I thought: "This also makes Struggle the only Normal-type move which can hit a Ghost type opponent... However, this is not the case in Generation I, as Struggle's Normal type is treated normally and therefore will be unable to hit Ghost-type Pokémon." Drats lol.
Now I wonder if that was an unintentional oversight at the time, or something they changed their mind on after gen 1 (I would think a "last-ditch, we're out of real moves oh crap", type move _should_ be able to hit anything). Always so interesting to me, to think about cartridge games compared to modern era... having no way to push out fixes or patches to existing copies, whatever you ship is what you ship so you better test the crap out of it.
Recoil-only is very interesting though :o like using Pichu in Smash lol, that sounds like a great challenge video to me - assuming typing would allow for it as you say
I think a struggle run in later gens would definitely be viable, but them damn pesky ghost types make it impossible for gen one haha
