  • The Queen Victoria Building is now known as the QVB.
    This building was planned so the Government could employ many out of work craftsmen, stonemasons, plasterers, and stained window artists.
    It was built in 1898 and designed by 28 year old architect named George McRea.
    Replacing the original Sydney markets on the site.
    It was built as a monument to the long reigning monarch. The construction took place in dire times whilst Sydney was in a recession.
