Waiheke Island. New Zealand
Waiheke Island was discovered and settled by Māori about 1000 years ago.
Many signs of occupation on Waiheke Island still exist today. There are more than 40 pa sites, cooking pits and terraced areas. This island has become known as the island of wine. Home to a dedicated group of winegrowers who have successfully matched the maritime climate and ancient soil structures to the selection of classic grape varieties to produce red and white wines with distinctive varietal character. Good to visit.

"Good old mosselbay."Was their in 1990s, when i worked at mossgas.""Good memories.☝️ ❤️ 😊👌
@johndavid5618 Hi John. As you said ....the good old Mossel Bay is getting better every year. I live there for 19 years and love every minute of it. Delfinos was my coffee ☕️ spot every morning for all those years. I'm glad you stopped by. Thanks for watching. Take care and stay safe
Omg thankyou so much for this video you really helped me out im definately going to stay at the aquarius and sailors now 😁
@korarainey5084 Hi Kora. You are so welcome. Glad this could help you make your decision. We enjoyed our last few days living there. Thank you for stopping by. Much appreciated 👏
That fountain looks best at night when it's all lit up. I hope you had a nice Christmas, Dave.
@pillred5974 I did not know that. I went only for a ride and found that spot by luck.....lol. I'll remember that for next time I visit there. Thanks for stopping by. Much appreciated 👏
The Albany Pak n save! I know it well. i miss new zealand.
@@gracemarshall6665 When do you come again and where are you from? Thank you for stopping by
Sounds like a busy itinerary next year, and a nice view of downtown Browns Bay, Merry Christmas and a happy travelling New Year to you Dave from me here in Somerset England.
@pillred5974 oh yes on both. Can't wait February next year
Nice
Torquay?
@@DamianoWitkowsko lol......it went well.
people are leaving that island in droves because its so over populated fucking auckland taking over use to be a good place
Nice video, Dave. You certainly got around to showing another side to Waiheke. I have visited a few times but never got around to seeing the off-the-beaten-track places. Those boats amongst the mangroves looked like a lovely way to live your life. Surprised there was no Hokey Pokey flavour ice cream at that shop, it's my favourite whenever I visited Auckland I used to look forward to trying one as they don't sell it here in England.
@pillred5974 Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you've enjoyed it and brought back memories 😊 Take care and be safe
When I lived at the YMCA in Pitt st when I was 17 I was working in Smith and Caughey in Queen st during Christmas, we used to do a wonderful display in the windows I believe they became well-loved, that was 50 years ago I hope they have still carried on the tradition, it's good to see so many people still come out for the parade, there used to be a giant Farmers store Santa put up on one of the buildings, I wonder what happened to it?
@pillred5974 They still do their windows. They are really making it beautiful 😍 I took videos but the shine on the windows made it difficult to see
@@davethedutchmansabventures I will have another look, it was quite sunny wasn't it you were all very lucky to have such nice weather for the parade, I enjoyed my time at Smith and Caughey, I worked in the men's department it was very much like the tv comedy are you being served with me as the cheeky young assistant lol.
@pillred5974 The weather was awesome. It was overcast, not too hot, cool breeze, and a few raindrops now and then. The window display is not in my video....sorry
@@davethedutchmansabventures No problem. It was great of you to post all the parade. It's funny for me to think I was there for the 40th in 1973, and now there were you at the 91st. Where did the time go?
@pillred5974 True. Time waits for nobody. Thank you so much for watching. Hope you'll share this with family and friends.
I said it was a bit of a trek to the top didn't I lol, good job you are fairly fit. We cheated and got taken most of the way up on the back of a tractor-trailer. the warden said his boots only lasted a few weeks because of the sharp volcanic rocks. Apparently, they spent years eradicating all the possums and rats from the island to protect the native species. We were told they intended over the years to remove all the baches as well. Thanks for taking me around the island it's been too long since I was back in Auckland but I get to see a lot of it again thanks to you.
@pillred5974 lol.....I wasn't that lucky to be taken by a tractor. I had to use my feet.....lol. Was a tough one, but awesome 👌. I enjoyed and loved every bit of it. Thanks for stopping by
@@davethedutchmansabventures You're welcome, I look forward to my next "visit" to NZ lol.
@pillred5974 Do you live in the UK 🇬🇧?
@@davethedutchmansabventures Yes, I do. I used to come over to NZ on holiday in the 1990s and 2000s, as I had lived in Milford and Takapuna as a child in the 1960s and 1970s. I have not been back since 2006 for various reasons, so it's nice to watch your videos. Fingers crossed, if all goes well, I will be back in the not-too-distant future.
@pillred5974 nice meeting you

Dave the sound quality is very bad when you are on the ferry as I couldn't hear what you said half the time, other than that I enjoyed seeing all the places, have you ever visited Rangitoto? The view is fantastic from the top though it's a bit of a climb. It looked very quiet you would never believe you were so near a city of over 1.6 million people. Why so long to upload? this was a month ago. I'm very surprised with downtown you could well have been in Singapore the amount of Asian people in your video, things are certainly changing fast, for someone who grew up on the North Shore in the 1960s and 70s it's quite a shock to see how much the makeup of the people has changed, probably because you live there all the time you don't notice it, it feels to me like it has changed too much too fast.
@@pillred5974 Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll work on that. Rangitot.....yes. 3 to 4 years ago about. Got a video running on Rangitoto. Will do a new one again. I told my wife yesterday.
@pillred5974 I just want to let you know I will be uploading Rangitoto Island video this week.

It took me a minute to realise you are back in Browns Bay, the weather looks really nice for early September, today is exactly 51 years since I returned to Auckland as a 17-year-old, as you know I have since moved back to England but until my wife health took a turn for the worse we used to spend time in Browns Bay on holiday at my cousin Sues house in Wilkinson Way. I'm still hoping she gets a transplant so we can come out again and I can have a pint in Speakers corner..

Hi, nice video :) which boat did you take?
@58vadsan Thank you for stopping by. When you get to the harbor.....you ask for the boat going to Gili Air or Gili Trawagan or back to Kuta. Depends on where you want to go. They will tell and show you which boat is going where and at what time it leaves and how long it will take to get to your destination 😉. That's what we did. You can even ask at the place where you stay. Most of them know. I wish you happy traveling 🙂

Did you feel a little homesick catching sight of the windmill? it must feel a little strange for you, I'm not sure how long it has been since you left the Netherlands, it looked cold Dave. Don't want to make you jealous Dave but it's 30 degrees here in England today, where I live in Somerset in the SW of England it hardly ever snows we never had any at all the last 3 winters, coming from Auckland it must be a real novelty to see snow, you are certainly getting about in South Island, are you looking forward to getting back to Sub tropical Browns bay? it's a balmy 16 degrees from what I can see.
@pillred5974 lol......nice hearing from you. The snow was not that cold as it is in Gore further South. I enjoyed the snow cause I haven't been in snow since my childhood years. Loved it. And Yes.... I'm jealous of you living in England. I understand it's beautiful all the time. Maybe next year for me. Thank you so much for stopping by.
@@davethedutchmansabventures You are welcome Dave, when I moved to Milford with my parents in 1967 I attended Murrays Bay School, one of the first things the Kiwi kids asked me was, what was snow like? as they had never experienced it, I had to tell them that in the SW of England where I came from it hardly ever snowed, they were so surprised as they thought it snowed all the time, I did laugh.

The name Roaring Meg comes from the area's gold mining past. Along with the miners who were attracted to the area there were a number of "business women" who came to keep company with the men. One such woman was named Meg. The story goes that Meg made so much noise when being carried across the river that that stretch of water became known thereafter as "Roaring Meg".
