    Great bike and reasonably comfortable for a super sport bike.

    Owned a mint 1989 model identical to this which I had bought in 1991. It was locked in my garage until recently when some scumbag decided to nick it out of my locked garage. Had fitted a carbon fibre Micron can, some Michelin radials and a tinted screen. Made my GPZ which I owned before seem like a tank. Handling superb for an old bike but looked after obviously worth more than I realised. More likely in pieces now and sold off to a collector. If you are reading this I will find you eventually.

    I love the oldschool look of this bike. This one and the zxr750 are just so cool oldschool bikes. Im thinking of getting one of them. But i have too many bikes already lol. Too bad theyre used a lot to make a streetfighter, which is a shame

    What countries got the recessed headlights on the 89-90 FZR's like this one? All the ones ive seen before, and the ones sold in my country had the headlights flush with fairing. I like this look.

    Enjoyed this! I do prefer the front end on the early model compared to my fox eye.

      I had the 89 (depicted) then the 91. The smoother profile of the later versions had better aerodynamics.

    I just bought a 1991. I think I like the double headlight better but I have the shorter wheelbase and bit more power. I think it was pretty cheap but haven't ridden it yet so we'll see if it has issues or not. Seems to run good. No rust at all inside gas tank. Been repainted though. I like the stock paint better.

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an 89 to 90, 2nd gen FZR, it has the exact same wheelbase as your bike. It was the 1st gen FZR1000, known as the "Genesis" that had the longer wheelbase, by 10mm.

    • @mikeholland1031
      @mikeholland1031 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uhtred7860 ok. According to what I read they shortened the wheelbase and punched out the engine in 91. Not sure though. I doubt it would.make much difference to me. I'm no hard-core racer. I was just thinking less likely to swap fairings over. I'd like to go double round headlights

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeholland1031 I have a book of all the road tests of FZRs and comparisons to rival bikes from magazines of era, none of them mention any change in wheel base after the big 89 update. The engine grew in capacity from 989cc in the 87/88 to 1003cc in all the EXUPs (even the YZF1000 known as the "Thunderace" outside the U.S used the "old" 1003cc FZR engine with minor updates)
      Different regions did get HP levels, the UK bikes were restricted to 125hp, by ridiculously easy to remove rubber webs across the intake rubbers, and some European countries models, like the over legislated Swiss, didnt even break the 100hp mark. Speaking of differences, notice how this bike has recessed headlamps? most other markets had the head lights flush with the fairing, i'm guessing and looking at parts schematics online, its a Spanish or Austrian model, and the headlights are different due to local regs. Anyway its all a moot point really. If you want twin lights what about the "fox eye" headlights from the 94/96 model, its got a very similar fairing to your 91/93 model.

    It's an 89, 90 was Black. Had one loved it, but compared to the 98 R1 it was a little tall, and a little heavier overall. Power is similar, but the R1 was compact, and ferocious.

      Can someone answer something for me: I see some of these have headlights that are flush with the fairings while others are set in behind the fairings. I don't think it has to do with the years, so I'm now wondering if it is a location thing. So why is it that some of these bikes have different headlights with everything else being exactly the same?

    • @00SirSativa00
      @00SirSativa00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WhistlesToAnimals can’t give you an answer that you will appreciate, or based in any kind of fact that can be verified, but when I bought mine, I feel like I remember being told that at the time it was illegal in the USA. So he had to buy it in Canada and bring it in. Maybe the difference in headlights was when it was made legal? Idk I could also be making up memories.

    • @uhtred7860
      @uhtred7860 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WhistlesToAnimals Its to do with the country it was sold ins legislation, some countries didn't allow headlights to be flush, so Yamaha recessed them. Some countries (Switzerland) didn't allow twin headlights so those places got a single rectangle headlight.

    This is an amazing bike ! My friend had one seem like this. His one fzr was 1989 or 1990. This engine is fantastic. Front and handling is excellent. That was more than 20 years ago. How would you compare it with sport bikes. Year 2000-2007 ? I have Yamaha Xjr 1200 97 I’m thinking of buying Fzr 1000 1995. The only thing that bothers me is the tax. The bike has 1001cc Which is the highest tax category. Where I live.
