enjoying the conversation format as well.
I would love to see, or find,
a set of PDF's for each fish/coral etc
    laying out,
    food preference,
    location preference /habitat
ie, lower in the tank, more or less flow, higher in the tank etc
basically a library where I can look up the fish, and see what is it's happy place when it comes to making a good environment,
to make it easier to work out, order of introduction, and manage clash of desired location/food
or even a book about marine keeping,
it would certainly make life easier.
I am hoping to start a tank in the next year or so, and really trying to find success via good choices, slow and steady, and have all the live stock happy as they can be

I really enjoyed watching you both together in discussions, Matthew I've been watching you for a couple of yrs now..your awesome 👌 excited to see you've teamed up with Ryan 😃
I'm going to share with you my experience with hydrogen peroxide coral dips. I used Dr Tims first defense as a first dip follwed by coral rx dip then lastly hydrogen peroxide. Corals I used, 1x hammer, 1x large gorgonian, 1x jardini, 1x scrolling monti & 1x goni. They all survived 🙌 techniques differed for the monti & gorgonian they sat in a solution of 95% tank water 5% hydrogen peroxide also contact time was approximately 1-2 minutes. As for the other corals solution was approximately 80-20 contact time 10-15 minutes. The monti & gorgonian worried me took a week or 2 to recover but are doing fine 🙂

I feed 3 different foods everyday. Freeze dried calanus on auto feeder (4x/day) PE mysis pellets, seaweed extreme, and I will also put a sheet of seaweed in there each day. The only time I experience a fish death is due to aggression, and that hasn't happened in a long time.

1 - I run Ozone for the last 2 weeks and I dose peroxide and I use it as a fish dip into and out of QT
2 - I took my KH monitor off, dose Kalk only overnight - 3 months and my SPS are doing SO much better
3 - Trying to do that BUT how do you feed different food to different fish in the same tank? Getting them onto the food is huge
4 - Yeah my tank was stagnant and couldn't work it out but the pH focus has been huge
5 - I need a little more flow but my LPS suffers
6 - I'm totally against aquacultured fish when they are common and hardy - (mainly because sustainable collection should be a massive positive for reef and the humans there in developing countries). But I wanted a Muiltibar angel and I waited till it was available captive bred. The industry, including BRS, need to demand better practices (and I would pay more knowing where my fish / coral was collected and by whom and how it got to me)
7 - Yeah I probably need a few more critters as I'm sick of cleaning the sand
8 - Bars (what Matthew calls strips) are the future
9 - BRS should do it. You do it with Elliot on fish and Victor for coral. Still reefers don't need the latest and greatest - they just need to simple, basic best practice for the 80% (I think QT in Copper with Elliot is too much - better peroxide baths and observation in a QT tank maybe with prazi)
10 - I think the tanks with natural looking habitats have the best scapes - Sorry but besides some very few bonsai style reefs (Evan Luo & Yoshi) I think NSA scapes look terrible. So unless your tank is ALL about Acropora (for which the NSA provides the best aquascape) don't do it.
11 - Peroxide as a coral dip needs to have some videos on it because different corals do better or worse - and you NEED to do in tandem with KCl.
12 - Totally - KZ was way ahead of their time. A lot of SPS experts say the low zooxanthellae part is basically keeping corals on the edge. I'm not so sure about that and I think we are going to find there is something more behind it. I do use some of their products BUT it's too much so I'm really hoping to see how good their new 4 bottom system is. I wonder if, like Kalkwasser, the hobby has evolved to a higher level than that and KZ will be incorporated in new ways. I do see a KZ tank in my future - probably when I'm retired :D
13 - Probably but thank goodness it isn't key because I have no one here that is at that super high level
    14 - Yep
15 - Nah it's method that is altered by science
Can't wait for season 2! Gonna be EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @Sammy31Dee
      @Sammy31Dee ปีที่แล้ว

Use SODA ASH 2 part via an auto doser.....it keeps your PH high like kalk and doesn't destroy your pumps....also dose whatever the hell you want with the exception of potassium and virtually never see crazy swings.....the more your coral uptake the soda ash (alk) it raises your PH ....so as your tank grows it basically is compounding in growth and PH....even on lowwww dose soda ash ...my new systems run no lower than 8.2....apex to verify....main system eating 90 ml per day....8.3 to 8.47.....no co2 reactor....no kalk....just the KISS method

This is a fantastic episode! I have so many thoughts and I'm still not done with it at the time of this comment. But I loved the points on Diet. Just because we can eat a full bag of chips everyday doesn't mean we should. And then when you where discussing flow it made me think how a wavemaker/power head is like the Heart and the flow is the Circulatory System. If you have too low of flow (low blood pressure) it will cause issues and too high of flow (high blood pressure) both are dangrious and should be monitored with lots of care and checked frequently. Don't assume it won't change because like us as we age and different variables our blood pressure can change. Thanks BRS can't wait for season 2 of 52 weeks of reefing!

  • @jdnthecanadian424

    Solid list! Love BRS!
Yeah it is the inverse, it should be; "Belief can only take us so far. Science will take us the rest of the way."
I think this might work, we'll see if it does is the foundation of reefing. Now we are gaining access to way more testing and data to work off of. Science underpins reef tanks. Not belief.

As far as No.9 goes, the problem is the people at the facilities and the LFS think of the fish as a commodity...their goal isn't to have the healthiest fish possible, that would probably be ineffective cost wise...their goal is to the keep them moderately healthy enough so that they can live long enough to sale them...the breeders are probably the best source for nutrition information...

I think PH has always been first-ish ...however I think what we will learn is that kalk is so bad for your equipment long term speaking....we will end up preferring a soda ash mixture 2 part....bc it's ph boosting benefits but also being easier to absolutely peg levels for relatively the same price ...if you DIY mix it like BRS offers...what I think we should be doing is perfecting trace elements in the BRS mix specifically the soda ash varient of 2 part...sodium bicarb should be discontinued for obvious reasons...calrx too IMHO

    • @Sammy31Dee
      @Sammy31Dee ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think Kalk vs Soda Ash....Tank vs Tank...you'd find....same or nearly the same coral growth....but less coraline algae using soda ash...which can be good thing ....I don't want to constantly clean coraline off the glass and pumps....impellers etc all crusty....wires hardend and brittle from the kalk being dumped in....I think a good pros vs cons of these two would be a worth while investigating....anecdotally I've used em all and I always land back on pure soda ash
