I've always found that the quality of casting is the determing factor. As long as the manufacturer utilizes a proper heat treatment to the part, then there is no issue.

Can I get a 1911 forged in fires of Mt Doom?

I thought all forged 1911s were made that way. Pretty sure the instructions for my Colt mentioned something about it.

Ruger is supposed to be the master at casting guns. I Just got a new stainless mini thirty, poor quality in every respect. The only reasonably smooth surface on this gun is the stock. The lead fishing sinkers I cast are better quality then the castings in this gun. I can't imagine that this gun was inspected at all before it left the factory. Almost seems that they missed a step during the manufacturing. I'm reluctant to shoot it. It might be best to saw the receiver in half and cut my losses. First and last Ruger I ever buy.

There is no difference in strength between a good casting or a forging. Both are far stronger than they need to be in the application of a 1911 pistol period!

While both may be far stronger her than needed I would have to disagree that there is no strength difference.
Look no further than S&W revolvers vs. Ruger revolvers.
Ruger revolvers are much much larger than than their S&W contemporaries... this is due to the fact that castings are in fact seeker.
Now people will bring up ruger only loads. These loads can be shot out of a ruger not because they are cast but because they make their cylinders about 1/4" longer which makes them able to handle the higher pressure of "Ruger only" loads.
Now before you say "but that's revolvers" the facts still remain, castings are weaker than forgings... HOWEVER it also backs up ypur assertion that both are overly strong for the 1911 because there are no oversize frames in the 1911 sikoly because they are cast. It is all 1 uniform size no matter if it's cast or forged.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch and leave a comment! Thank you!
