Rescued my wife and daughters stranded in a Target parking lot, looked like a genius, all because of this video. I even showed up with the right sockets, because you even announced what sizes I needed. You're awesome!

I was at the mechanic with this issue when I found this video. I insisted my mechanic try this because he was talking about replacing the whole fuel pump which was going to be 5 hours of labor. He agreed and IT WORKED! I never comment on videos but I had to say THANK YOU SO MUCH😊 !! You saved me so much time and money I don’t have $$!!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. My 2014 flex would not start with the same symptoms. I did not mess with the fuel pressure test, I just went with the odds and replaced the fuel pump relay. My flex fired right up. I would note anyone fixing there flex, take note of the 7 mm and 10 mm socket size before heading out. Also, take a towel to fill the void under the part. That way when removing the part, the nuts have no where to disappear into. Thanks again! Very much appreciated.

Dude! You seriously saved me hundreds of dollars (bravo 👏👏👏). I was minutes away from calling a tow truck and sending it to the shop. Within an hour of watching your video my car was back up and running (for less than $70). Thank you for your great video! 5 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fixed my car today with your help! Thanks so much! I actually did a search and found your video while I was waiting for my husband to come help me push my car out of the road after it stalled, died, and wouldn’t start back up. When you started with “does your car sound like this?...” I was like, YES! Felt pretty accomplished to take care of it myself.... so thanks!

Thanks for saving my day - a Sunday at that!!! Have a 2015 Flex and this issue popped up suddenly - was leaving work and the vehicle wouldn’t start but would crank (sounded thirsty). Thought it was the battery - a jump didn’t help - no fuse blown. Came across this video and bought the part, installed it, and it started right up! As dumb as this may seem, your video was like a guardian angel. Thanks for taking the time to make it and your contribution to the community!

Bless you, sir! Got a call from my son who was stranded in their church parking lot with wife and three small kids. The no start condition seemed identical, so I ran out and got the part and took the chance. Took along the proper sockets as you indicated. I arrived even before the tow truck got there and had it switched out in five minutes. Canceled the tow. Your info was GOLD! And if anyone would have previously suggested the relay was in back of the trim behind the rear door, I would have thought they were crazy. Thank you!!!

Man from North Carolina we just want to thank you down here in the south. First cold snap that we had down in the low 20s wife want to go to work tonight in the car just would not go. I was just about ready to call Roadside Assistance and make an appointment at the dealership tomorrow when I just so happen to look up on TH-cam and what do I find is your video. So I figured what was a $50 gamble if nothing else I could tell them I’ve already done that so they didn’t have to look at it. So two hours in the freezing cold in the dark and with your information I got the part and she’s running like a kitten thank you so much this car was my wife’s 25th anniversary present I normally don’t get the car alone unless somethings wrong this is one of those rare occurrences again thank you so much

  • @TimLeffelman

Thanks! This is exactly what I needed to fix my 2014 Ford Flex. A few months a ago, I had it towed to a shop to fix the exact same problem. It cost me $150 total for the tow and diagnostics, and they did not even fix anything because it started at the shop without any issues; presumably, the tow bounced the car around enough to "unstick" the relay. When the Flex would not start again today, I did some searching and came across this video. I went to the parts store to get the relay module; it was about $70 and in stock at both NAPA and AutoZone. I replaced the relay module and the car started with the assistance of a jump from my minivan (battery was low from multiple unsuccessful start attempts earlier today.)

My husband and I went to see our mother in law who had a stroke, we took my two kids and my step daughter. We got stranded on the side of the interstate where the car stuttered and stopped . We couldn't find this part so we had our car towed to the dealership they couldn't get it in for 3 weeks but we did the fuel test and no fuel like you showed so we believe that this was the issue. My husband went to charge our battery and he already put the part in. So I hope once he gets back with the battery that this fixes our issue and we can go home. I appreciate you so much. Update: this man's a true blessing he helped me and my family out when we were stuck. This actually worked

My recently purchased 2013 Flex with just 80000 did this. First time was Christmas eve. Never stumbled just no start. Sat 22 days, started and ran fine, until Jan 19. At 6 degrees it failed to start. After 3 hour wait for tow it still would not start. Towed to a dealer, rolled off the truck (1 AM...) IT STARTED RIGHT UP! Drove it straight home 95 miles did not miss a beat. Next day no start. Tried it about every day since, waiting for sub 10 weather and then days of rain to clear. I had a genuine FOMOCO module ordered in December from Tasca Ford, $63 with shipping ready., but car ran fine from December 26 to January 19... Tried it once more, then replaced it today. Start on first crank. Thanks for a great video. I don't trust Dorman parts, and at Tascas prices and 2 day delivery I'll use the real thing. There are 2 or more videos that are on 2013s, bad batch of parts then? I have an 09 Flex with 193000 that has never failed me...

It was a fuel pump. Everyone was completely wrong after watching a nine minute video and buying a $50 part I fix my flex that was sitting for two days, but no mechanic could figure out where was wrong with it less than five minutes!!!!!! 😩 THIS IS AMAZING ! why don’t more mechanics no this about the Flex

I just want to say thanks for the great video. My wife called me this morning to say that the car wouldn't start. I went home did a quick google search and found your video at the top of the list. I pulled the fuel line and low and behold no pressure. We have an extended warranty but that would have costed us a $100 deductible. O'Reilly's had the part in stock for $46! I was back to work after only an hour and a half. Dealer would have no doubt taken 2 days.

Thank you!! You are amazing!! Last night, after Thanksgiving dinner, an hour from home, our Flex wouldn’t start. I was googling it while I waited for the tow truck, and your video showed up. I had them tow it to our house instead of the shop (and I’ve got a great repair shop that we love and trust). I ordered the part last night, and picked it up this morning. Happy to be home, Thankful for TH-cam and Santer Auto Repair!
I had a show in Salem MA today. I arrived early as I typically do to set up for a 4pm show. Knowing the venue wouldn’t have any parking, I parked in a local parking garage. I loaded up my gear on to my cart and got to the venue and set everything up. Everything was great. I had a blast at the show. When I got back to the car, it didn’t start. It was turning over, just not firing up. I tried it again, same situation. Turning over but not firing. 🤔 Hmmm….
It’s not getting fuel. Fuel pump? Fuel filter? Did someone siphon my tank? So there I am; stranded in a parking garage around 6 PM. (AAA? Nope. What’s that?)
Now what? Do I get a room for the night and deal with the car in the morning? Do I call a tow truck? I did a quick search, “Ford flex won’t start”. I found a nine minute, 45 second video stating for 50 bucks you can fix your car. So while sitting in the parking garage watching the video he says, “does your car sound like this”. Why yes it does! The next thing you know, I’m calling an auto parts store looking for a fuel pump relay module. They have one in stock! $31.00 ok, “Nice I’ll be right there“.
It’s a 20 minute walk one way. It’s getting late. I’ll call a cab. I take a cab to the auto parts store to get the part I need. Which they had set aside waiting for me. It turns out, it’s the wrong part. “Oh there are two listed”… so they go on a search throughout the store to find the new relay module. Score!! They have it! $50 But I will also need a 7mm and 10 mm socket (as stated in the video). Unfortunately, I did not have a set in the car as I often do. So, I purchase a small socket set for $30. I take the cab back to the garage.
Now, the car has been sitting for sometime. In one final hopeful attempt, I cross my fingers and try to start it once more. Hoping it would fire right up. No dice. So, I remove the interior trim panel on the right, rear passenger side seatbelt cowling. There it is! I remove the two screws, unplug the module and plug the new one in. And just like magic, it starts right up!! It’s about an hour and 50 minute ride home.
When all was said and done, I lost only about an hour of my time and $100. ($50 part, $30 socket set, $20 cab ride). However, I was back on the road in no time flat!! I didn’t have to get a hotel room. I didn’t have to get a tow. I didn’t have to pay for diagnostics and labor.
All I can say is, I’m so happy I had my phone and was able to find that video. He totally saved the day! Also, happy this happened after the show and not before!! Also happy the part was easily accessible and not buried underneath the car near the gas tank or under the hood in some obscure location. (Other than hiding inside on the pillar behind the seatbelt trim 🤷🏻‍♂️). 👍🏼👍🏼
    It’s not just a job it’s an adventure! 🎩🪄🚙

Thank you Tom! My wife's Flex was doing this for a few weeks. Finally, we were stranded in the parking lot after church. I told our pastor we were going to leave her car overnight and get it towed in the morning. We went for lunch and I went to TH-cam. I found this video, and I went and bought the part. We went back to the church, our facilities guy was still there and he loaned me his tools and I swapped out the part. Pretty easy repair.

Also make sure you have a deep 10mm, as the lower of the 10mm mounting bolts can be tight if using a bigger wrench.

A few months ago I had my car in the shop for 3-4 days and they could not figure it out. It started every time for them. I thought because I ran my fuel to empty a few times I messed up the pump. It ran fine for a few more months and this morning decided not to start, I thought it was too cold. I googled ford flex wont start and found your video. I am pretty confident I can fix this instead of having flex towed to garage again. thank you for sharing your expertise!

There is not much the common man can fix by himself on modern cars any more. I saw this video and decided to give it a try. So glad I did! Your instructions and videography were so clear, concise and complete that the job was a snap. Thanks so much! BTW, part now runs about $55 at local auto parts store.

I had this same problem on my 2015 Flex today. Checked all the basics first then googled the issue and came across your video. The only difference is that when I took apart the fuel line, there was still fuel in it so I quickly put it back together. It started right up once I installed the new relay ($42 at Autozone). Thank you!

THANK YOU! I unfortunately found your video too late. I have already fished out 1800 for Ford to replace my battery and my fuel pump 🤬😫. Just to have my car do this AGAIN, two months later. 🤬🤬. Cost me 58 bucks and now running like a charm! You for sure saved me probably at least 1000+ more. Much appreciated!

Well now I feel like a mechanic. I just slapped in a new fuel pump relay module and away we go. Thanks so much for the tip! The only part that was different was I spent $64 dollars. Thanks for making the video. I found the solution on a Ford owners web site but your video confirmed the problem and solution.
A temporary fix that got me back on the road when stranded in the middle of no where was to tap the fuel pump relay module a couple times. The engine started. Tapping it was enough to free up the relay. I was able to drive to an auto parts store where I purchased a replacement.

Appreciate your time to put this together and share it. My wife’s 2014 Flex started acting up a few weeks ago, would always crank, but not always start. I suspected this fuel pump relay as my daughters 2001 Accord just had these same symptoms last month and a replacement fixed it. Having video showing exactly where things are makes installation easy. THANKS AGAIN!!

Just watched this and got power back to my pump in 30 minutes. Orileys has a lifetime warranty on the part for $50. Crazy how there is no warning or anything to tell you the relay is bad. I'm happy this fixed the problem today.

I am so thankful for you and this video! My Ford flex had been doing this on and off for 2 years.
