Yes there are some fast Teslas out there but most won't beat real racers at the track. The reason electric cars like this and others that are faster is because they get to peak hp extremely fast and stay there. It's cool have nothing against it but it will never replace the sound and power that a V8 can make. Maybe power years from now but never the sound or smell of racing fuel lol.

The dragstrip is proud to extinguish the "nowhere else to go" excuse used by illegal street racers, and local police often hand out flyers to offenders for free entry into drag races at the dragstrip to promote safe racing and has re-opened."
In LA there's different levels of street racing depends where you go. As it has all over the country it has changed a lot with the younger crowd it gets crazy but love the vibe . Still miss the old school when races were won and lost with the driver.
What's funny is that 62 has been a race car since the 60's/70's. It was owned by Jim Hale who owned HRP in Torrance CA and driven by my father and friend Pete Berkuta on the streets of Compton and track. Bob took all the bitchen lettering and paint off and made it much slower.
Dragracing was not born in California, dragracing was built, born and bred out of Detroit city where muscle cars rolled off the auto line and onto the streets. Woodward Avenue is about 2 miles from me where we still drag race to this day. Sorry West Coast you can't have this one, we will give you skateboarding, cocaine and man buns but not drag racing it all began in the motor city.

You guys are both wrong. Although never officially documented, common sense dictates that drag racing started in Germany in the late 1800s immediately after Karl Benz built his SECOND car. :)
There are so many more states in the US that has way more of a larger underground racing culture then LA or all of California combined. I can guarantee you that Texas, Philly, Detroit and even New York/Jersey has way more people involved in Street/Track racing then all of California combined.....

I am a Ford Guy from the 60's and I use to hang out with Big Willie (R.I.P.) and the L.A. Street Racers in the early 70's and I had a 66 Ford Mustang Coupe in High School that I fixed up into a 66 Shelby GT350 Coupe! Even though my favorite Mustang is the 69/70 Shelby GT500 I am aware that Electric Powered Cars are the Future in Terms of Performance!...Just look at the 2020 Tesla Roadster 0 to 60 in 1.9 sec.s, 1/4 mile in 8.8 sec.s, , Top Speed over 250+ MPH and the Range is over 600+ miles!...I am Just Saying! Even an All Electric 68 Mustang FB called the Zombie 222 ran 0 to 60 in 1.79 sec.s and did a Top Speed run over 174 MPH! I may have to own one of each, one Shelby and one Tesla!...I am Just Saying!...God Bless!

Kind of missed opportunity to talk about recent federal attempts to basically shut down the production of new race chassis, and how California's government hates fast cars, race cars, and the people who build them.
The scene is pretty big in most cities if you know where to look...ill give it to LA though for having one of the biggest for sure. I understand how there are a select few in the automotive world who want to make electric cars faster, but they will NEVER be a true enthusiasts car. Yes, you can race them. Yes, you can make them lighter and more aerodynamic. And Yes, they can be very competitive in drag racing and on the track, as they're very efficient and consistent in how they deliver the power. But if you really enjoy firing up a car, listening to its idle on cold start, hear the cams doing their thing, smelling the exhaust and fuel, etc you wont enjoy sitting in an electric car, pushing a button, hearing nothing, and giving that 1spd "transmission" some 'gas' as you increase the voltage to the drivetrain. Nothing fun in that. I don't care how efficient they become, I'll never own one. To each their own, but you'll never catch me in an electric vehicle unless I lose a bet or I'm on a golf course lol.
