I think you did a great job. I’m 72, and it’s delightful watching you in your gentle spirit. I love your meekness and I can relate to your newly learning hobby. I felt overwhelmed at Christmastime…..and didn’t have something stitched up for my great grandchildren. So I’m going to spend all year getting ready for next Christmas so will be prepared. Im working on an advent calendar right now….w/ 25 little pictures of different things so the children can hand one a day on a felt Christmas tree. I’m on day. Number 15 and it is a real cute gingerbread man. I’m stitching each little picture on perforated paper that is 14 count. It’s real fun. And easy for my eyes to see. I just had cataract surgery in December so I can see bright and clear now. I’m looking forward to more of your videos to come. Best Wishes! Run into your husband and tell him you did a great job!!!

You did a wonderful job on your first video! You are very brave!! Thanks for sharing all your beautiful stitching, patterns and haul!! I currently live in Tucson, Arizona but lived in Huntington Beach, California for 32 years. We want to move to Pennsylvania in 2 years, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 48 years, and he is the love of my life! I am very blessed! He still calls me his Bride!! We have 1 son Jake who is a pharmacy technician and wants to move with us to Pennsylvania to be a Game Warden in the forest. My husband and I retired 2 yers ago after 35 years of teaching. He taught special education and I taught elementary school. I have been cross-stitching on and off since I was 6 years old. I am working on a large Nativity piece that looks like little kids and is very sweet. I am also working on some Thanksgiving and Halloween charts. I too have anxiety and depression, so cross-stitch and the family of stitchers is wonderful to belong too! Welcome Sweetie!!! ❤

Welcome Julia! You made a terrific first Flosstube, and you are a very good stitcher! Your jar of mushrooms is adorable, as as the roses piece in the oval frame! Beautiful work! And welcome back to Chicago! I moved here in 1999 from TN and I love it here. Whereabout in the area do you live? My dream is to one day get all the. Chicago stitches together in one place, but it hasn’t happened yet! I’m in the NW burbs- Arlington Heights
I also wanted to suggest some stitchers that I think you might enjoy Check out The Museum Stitcher with the lovely Brijn, the Seattle Stitcher with Megan, and Jan Hicks Crestes. Jan has a lovely series about how to stitch on Evenweave and linen. You will enjoy all of these wonderful people as we obsess and ver our favorite hobby! Take care, and hope to see you again soon!

And just give yourself time to learn you will get better each time you stitch with the fabrics.Even weave is a little easier than linen I think. Have fun and enjoy. Well, you are in like Flynn! Nice first video. You are a natural. Brave to look already at linen. It took me at least 5 years and watching many linen tutorial videos before I finally ventured onto that scene. At first I also couldn’t get my head around how it was done, but now have 25, and 32 count under my belt and it is quite nice to stitch on. I am mainly an Aida stitcher and my favourite count is 18.
I am from Southern Ontario, Canada and am currently stitching Elegant Lace by WorksbyABC on 22 count caramel Aida. Look forward to more of your stitching!

Welcome to FlossTube fellow Chicagoan - I am guessing by the poster on your wall and the roaring racket of your HVAC system. Sounds like mine! Nice job with your first video. I think you are brave to push through and try something new in spite of your anxieties. I have been doing needle work for 35-40 years, and have 17 current WIPs. A few of my focus projects right now are Jean Farish's "America, Land that We Love;" Blackbird Designs' "Tis the Season," HAED's "St. George," and so many others. Looking forward to watching your progress on your WIPs. Take care and stay well.

Hello from South Carolina!Nice job on the video! I’m an old stitcher who just picked it up again since I retired a few years back. I also grew up in Illinois (southeastern part near St. Louis - people always think of Chicago first, but it’s a long state). My husband and I wanted to stay warm(er) in the Winter, so here we are - fat and happy! Right now I’m stitching several things, but today I’ve been stitching on the 2023 Collector’s Heart by Heart in Hand, and I’ve also been sewing a project bag. I have more WIPs than bags, so I need to balance that out. Good luck with your new Floss Tube endeavor, and all the best as you continue your cross stitching journey! 🧵 ❤

Welcome to floss tube. I am in Savannah, Ga. My husband was born and raised in Chicago. Glad you are not one of those that have a gazillion wips. I too am a monogamous stitcher. I always feel that when you have so many whips that are kitted, You wind up with multiple multiple of the same yarn. And if you don’t wanna do that, then you have to keep going into the whips that you have kitted and find what you need for the current one. None of it makes any sense to me. But then of course I am 81 years old and a lot of things don’t make any sense to me anymore lol. I like to have two going at one time so if I get bored with one I switch to the other.

    • @juliastitches

Welcome to the Flosstube community! So happy you’re here. Great first video. Your stitching is lovely and I adore that Stardew Valley gift for your spouse. You are correct that you typically do stitch two strands of floss over two threads when stitching on linen or evenweave. Linen is a natural fabric so sometimes has imperfections called “slubs”. Lugana, Jobelan, and other evenweaves are synthetics so they truly are even and won’t have those slubs. Those are really the only differences. You chose some beautiful fabrics to experiment on. Happy stitching!! 😁🎉

You could grid yourself, I will grid if there is a lot of confetti stitches or if there’s a lot of open spaces and I want to make sure I get the count right. I just use one strand of a sewing thread of a colour not included in the pattern , I’ll make a grid of every ten stitches x rows , 20 or 5 whatever seems like I need to make sure I’m on track.
Nice to see new Flosstubers still, I don’t make videos but like to watch, your stitching is lovely, looking forward to future videos. 🙋🏼‍♀️

You did a great job! I’m much like you in I have only a handful of projects I work on at a time. I love to kit up though & I have no clue how many there are of those. I’m working on a Fox & Rabbit sampler right now on 40count. Don’t be afraid of linen - once you get used to it you’ll love it. At least it was that way for me. 32 count is like 16 ct Aida, 36 = 18 ct Aida etc. I look forward to following your journey!!!

Julia, I enjoyed your first floss tube very much. And thank you for sharing your projects. I’ve been back to cross stitching only about a year and a half after taking a very long break. I would suggest watching Fat Quarter Shops Floss Tube videos. They are very helpful for beginners, and they have a couple videos up right now that talk about the different fabrics.
Keep posting on Floss Tube ❤

Great Job! It was fun and interesting ...enjoyed watching you, I agree, the flosstube community is very warm and welcoming . Loved watching , and seeing how you are stumbling your way through this stuff(as many of us are!)...I watch so many video's where the host is very knowledgeable and accomplished...it's so refreshing to find someone who is not super confident, "knows everything" and talks way above me! Your video is very comfortable and I will be watching for your next one, to see how you progress. I may have missed(because my kids interrupt my personal time quite often) and I will re-watch this video...But, it would be interesting to know more personal stuff about you, what area of the country you are in? Do you have any friends who stitch? Your favorite flosstube channels that you may follow? When did you first start stitching, did someone teach you or did you watch videos to learn? Love knowing you are a reader! Your project with the frame from the resale shop was gorgeous! (bouquet) Do you work? If so, when do you find time to stitch? That is one of my big challenges(along with a lot of other women!) Your husband sounds wonderful, very thoughtful! Bless you and your new endeavor!

Hi Julia and welcome to the Flosstube community! I’ve just stumbled across your channel looking for new people to watch and you did a great job for your first video, keep up the good work! I can’t wait to binge watch your channel and see all of your progress on your lovely WIPs 😊 Your stardew valley finish is adorable! 😍 I’ve just purchased a stardew valley pattern that is a ‘home sweet home’ with the dog I chose in the game outside and I cannot wait to start it! I’m exactly the same as you when it came to starting a channel. I put it off for ages due to my anxiety but once I’d started, I love it and always look forward to showing everyone my progress. So I hope you come to love it too! Happy stitching and I can’t wait to follow you on your stitching journey ❤️

Welcome to Flosstube! Love all your needle minders. S0I need to get some. I either leave my needle hanging or stick it in the fabric🤣 Your style is similar to mine. The flower oval turned out beautiful! You are doing great for a new stitcher. You are totally correct 1 over 2 32 count is 16 count. I suggest either getting a magnifying light or just a light in general to shine on your fabric. It really helps to see. Looking forward to your next vid.! 🎉 well done on your first flosstube. I'm an Aida stitcher, after 20 years of stitching I've only just gone to 20 count, anything else scares me 😂
Love your projects and that they're so small, I used to do smalls for gifts but then I got sucked into full coverages and BAPs (big ass projects) they're all only full cross so no fractionals or back stitch which makes them so easy but I don't get finishes often
I look forward to seeing more from you

    Linen is made from
Flax. Lugana is about half cotton half viscose and jobelan is about half cotton half modal rayon. Aida is cotton. In evenweaves like lugana and jobelan or linen yuu stitch over two so yuu skip a hole. Come up one hole, count over two holes and up holes and go down.
