It’s to the point on the interstate it just randomly stalls after it feels like an earthquake in the car.. I’m hoping it’s just this simple fix but I’m not hopeful about it…. I’m nowhere near a mechanic, and I never put transmission fluid in my car and it has 356K miles… it’s a 2006 Ford 500 Limited- really amazing car for a broke college student like me. To my amazement, I’ve driven the entire southeast of the United States with it. It may be just at the end of its life. I’ll get to checking my transmission fluid though!!! Thank you for this!
I just bought my Ford Five hundred, and was told it has a slipping transmission, and it totally does. I bought it for $900 and I was looking for the dipstick--(found it using this video) and put the fluid in, so now it's basically brand new. I practically stole this car.
Haha not to be rude but that's what you think..wait till the cvt starts acting up and jumping out of gear while your driving down the highway and almost get rear ended just sayin be careful with it n if u can unload it best bet is to sell it BEFORE 110k miles
if you are wondering what transmission you have its in the book but to save the trouble. open driver door and on the label that has "mfg by ford motor company" at bottom look for the TR and under that will have one letter code. for 2005 the letter A= CVT, B= 6spd auto. for 2006 & 2007 letter C= CVT, A= 6spd auto. hope that helps.
I've heard that people are having problems with the cvt transmission in the Ford five hundred with awd. The Ford five hundred that are fwd has a pretty solid transmission the Asin 6-speed automatic transmission.
OR, just look at the engine! If the STARTER is under the thermostat, then it is CVT. If it's down low, near the throttle body, then it's the normal AWF-21 six speed.

You are right by the way most people say oh no there is no dipstick for this vehicle in regards to the transmission fluid. Also fellow TH-camrs you can take a lesson from this gentleman right here when you're making a video get straight to the point don't Babble on about a bunch of garbage that people don't want to hear they want to know what they want to know no more that's all. If you want to do a video about your life then fine that's different but if you going to do a video on how to locate a dipstick nobody cares about anything other than that. Maintenance on these CVT transmission needs to be done to a T. If you don't buy OEM Ford filters and fluid, you are asking for trouble. They also need to be adjusted occasionally. Bought mine last week for $800 with 188.5K miles. Drives like a dream.
honestly super informative info here. i had a 08 taurus that i loved so much. got totaled at 170k. 2 months before totled, i did lots of service to the tranny and was working like a dream again. now i got a 06 montego 6speed. i noticed a very small slip. if i drive the car easy it doesn’t happen. if i don’t give it time to shift uphill i get a small jerk or 2. but usually only at the 20mph mark. car has 130k now (had it for 2 months) last owner had it from 85k-128k. going to call the person who serviced my taurus. thanks for the advice n knockeledge. you believe that should go away?
Purchased a 2007 with 63k January 2018. Not the CVT trans. 1 year and some months later, my son is driving on freeway and it suddenly slows down. He's able to pull over. Waits , restarts car but now it wouldn't go forward or reverse. Made a clicky / grinding type noise. Car had no leaks, no slippage, and trans fluid doesn't have that burnt smell. Only got 81k now.
@@ALMIGHTYBLAIR I found out it wasn't the transmission as I was told it went out. I forgot he got hit months before but, the car was still drivable. Apparently the hit had caused some axle, steering damage that wasn't detectable while driving for months. Something had worked it's way loose from the transmission which resulted in the car giving out on my son that day.
Tommie Spencer car hasn’t been in accident and I recently had everything fixed on the car it drove good for a month now it’s starts and run but make clicky/grinding noise when put in any gear I been trying to get my transmission guild dipstick off to check oil level on it but it’s so stuck won’t come out don’t have money to tow at the moment and money to get it fixed might check oil level and see if that’s the problem if not I’ll try all the things you said thank you
Definitely check the trans fluid level. I've heard that people were getting charged for a transmission repair and all this car needed was the correct amount of trans fluid. They couldn't check the fluid because of the way Ford designed the dipstick location. Therefore, wanting people to have to bring it to the dealership.
People I bought one of these new in 2005, if it’s got the 6 speed you better keep the transmission fluid changed because the valve body is what goes wrong in the transmission because of dirty fluid because there’s no filter inside the transmission and the dirty fluid is what wears the valve body out, cost me 700.00 dollars for valve body from ream man out of Lansing mi shipped to my door, transmission shop wanted 1500 to fix it, so I just put it in myself

tmaq97, Yes That's how i figured mine out is from the label on the door. Once i figured out what trans i have i went to the dealer and jad the fluid changed. Those CVTs are expensive to change the fluid.

angel31984 I think all dipsticks vary with the make and model of vehicles. Best place to find out is at dealerships or auto stores.

On my 2005 it’s not located there. It’s in front of the transmission. Don’t have to remove anything to pull the dipstick. No idea why they changed it.

Simply put: Disconnect the hose behind the air box and in front of the throttle body. Disconnect mass airflow sensor, and you can remove it

Ford made the transmission dipstick right on the top when they changed the name of these cars back to Taurus.
Ford service couldn't find that. "Quality is job one".
