But after Mama Cass died, Spanky was invited to tour with the New Mamas and Papas band, which she did.
She was one of the few singers around who had the availability, and very powerful voice and large range that Mama Cass had. Quite an honour.

@@jamesframpton8120 Every place I work, I try to turn-on the younger generations to music like this. I once had one young man comment, completely genuine: "I didn't know music was supposed to be FUN!". Granted, he was barely 20-21 years old so I guess from his experience with the years of music he was exposed to.... he'd never known music to be "fun".
I turned one kid I used to work with onto Philly Soul and 70's Funk. I'd never seen somebody so completely over the moon to discover "new" (to him) music that was actually enjoyable.
The group of youngsters I work with today is quite interesting. They are very aware of how modern music "sucks" and they LOVE the fact that I can introduce them to many genres they were not aware. Some older stuff is not as easy to get it seems.

But when I was in kindergarten way back in 1972 I remember hearing this song in my neighborhood and a lot of folks love this song. I liked it too, but I could only do humming because all I could sing is the part that says “Sunday will never be the same”. Even in my school, a lot of the teachers loves this wonderful song.

Same here. I was born in 1960. I had several older siblings who were into music, one was a folk singer, another played guitar and sang in a rock band, dad listened to music and mom played piano. I was already paying attention to the albums they listened to and the songs on the radio by the time I was three. Then The Beatles came along and I quickly became a big music fan. I had no idea back then that I came along at the perfect time for music, and for several years there were always several songs out that I liked at any given time.

What I love about this performance is that they got a hit record on the basis of their talent rather than the way they look. women singers today are all about the sexy clothes and the looks and they create their voices on a computer with all kinds of effects. Back in the 60s it was about that wonderful voice and looks were secondary or not considered at all. The men in the Spanky band were dressed for a shootout in the OK Corral which was totally fine because they had the talent to get away with it. They all look incredibly old also which is probably just the styles of the time.

In 1967 popular music was not a visual medium; performers rarely got TV appearances as their were very few shows featuring musical performers, and most often for a song or two only. Nationwide and int'l tours were reserved for the biggest names only, and venues were small; sound equipment in those days was inadequate to power arenas and stadiums. The Monkees were hand picked for a TV show, so they were selected in part for their looks, and they were pretty average looking guys. Performers had a manager for a team, and that was about it. Interesting to note that the female singer in Spanky & Our Gang was a bit plump, and her outfit featuring wide horizontal stripes was the opposite of flattering; there was no one around to advise on stage appeal in that era. Lastly, TV in the 60's was a G rated; it was no place for young people to find entertainment, it was all family stuff back then. Corny and uncool
