Why does my head hurt everytime you come up with a different take, idea or Theory on the Star Wars universe and some sense of possibility that could be a "what if", or "you know what?" And it makes total sense? Arrgghh!!! May The Force Be With You
I think the Bane books explained the Rule of Two dynamics pretty well. One master, one apprentice, both bound by ambition. When the master can no longer match the ambition of the apprentice, the apprentice tries to kill the master, in some cases finding and enlisting an acolyte. If the apprentice fails, then the master finds a new one. Bane expected to be betrayed by his apprentice, and was disappointed when he felt that his apprentice wasn’t attempting to betray him.
Great questions. First to find these questions we need to find the real intentions of Dooku. Did he wanted to overthrow Sidious in becoming the sith master as every sith did? At what momment he started to feel that way? Before Geonosis? And, even if it was before Geonosis, perhaps he really wanted to have Kenobi as an ally, an aprentice (like himself who was once a jedi and became an sith aprentice). I was thinking about Dooku a few days ago because of how the movies and the Clone Wars show always showed him as someone tired and afraid after a light duel with Anakin. And I thought the reason is because Sidious told him about the future, and told him that he would die by Anakin's hand. Maybe Sidious just wanted to put fear in him, IDK. Maybe Sidious just wanted to show him that at some point Dooku would be replaced by Anakin... And Dooku knowing that he started to make his moves, trying to bring Kenobi to his side was one of them.
One interesting plot hole in the prequel era canon is that Episode II has Jango tell Obi Wan (in his room on Kamino) that he was contacted by "a man called Tyranus" to be the template for the Clone Army. During the Clone Wars animated series, Dooku reveals his Sith identity as Tyranus in Season 6, Episode 10 while dueling Anakin and Obi Wan. So Obi Wan REALLY should have known that the Sith were behind the Clone Army, and brought it to the council.
Yes, the rule of two had largely been followed. However, the apprentice in the diad often found their own apprentice to not only complete tasks and do their killing dirty work, they also used them to help bring down their master. So, while the rule of two was largely followed, the apprentice often knew they had to cheat to overtake their master.
I want to think that it was a spark of light by Dooku, for almost his entire life he was a jedi, a defender of peace, he defended his ideals to the point that he left the order because they weren't following the will of the force anymore, but the will of the ones they served. I like to think that he wanted to destroy Sidious and the jedi to form a new group of force users that could ensure peace after the CIS won the war.
The is something cool about an Upper Class Aristocrat Sith Lord; he'll kill you in the most agonising way possible, but he'll be an absolute gentleman about it lol. I hope we see more of these style of force users in The High Republic books and comics - gentleman Jedi Knights that probably inspired Dooku and who he tried to live up to when he was a padawan; like the medieval knights of chivalry and the round table, that are masters of Form 2 and bow before every Lightsaber duel, it will be really cool to see.
Both the Master & the Apprentice's job is to always be on the lookout for "prospects". In case the Apprentice needs to be/should be replaced, or you become Master yourself and you need an apprentice. Plus, Force abled individuals doing your bidding are usually better than ordinary beings.
I agree with the last portion about dooku....i think he was trying to tell the Jedi what was going on to see if they could change....i also feel that Sidius thought Dooku could become stronger and threaten him and his plans so he had him killed...unfortunately he didn't think Anakin would actually kill him....perhaps he was unaware how much Palpatine was in Anakins head already.
Barriss actually thought the same as dooku, if she joined dooku, I feel as it would be a separatist victory. She would know several things about the republic, strengths, weaknesses, strategies, and the whole 9 yards. Barriss would have been an interesting plot, where instead of maul, she is at mandalore, used the droid army to somehow drive maul from power, and rule mandalore. The 332nd would get to fight the clankas, and Barriss would have an intense showdown with Ahsoka. She would be told to go there, sometime before the events of ROTS, as not to mess up the story. Dooku would tell his new apprentice to go to mandalore and take over while he and grievous unfold their plan to invade coruscant. This would have been an amazing plot line, and I would love to see a video on it.
I think it was deliberate. He knew the Jedi would doubt whatever he told them, as they should have, but he also wanted them to doubt themselves so his story had to be plausible. Nothing is more plausible than the actual truth. Plus when the Sith actually struck he wanted the Jedi to know that, for all their wasted effort looking for the truth, they had the truth all along, hidden in plain sight. It was his final insult to them.
Remember in the novel Dark Rendezvous while Yoda meditates in the force to determine if Dooku is lying and and setting a trap for him to secretly meet. He questions if Dooku is lying to him. Qui Gon wispers to Yoda in the force and says “he thinks he is lying” and Yoda is puzzled and he whispers again “he thinks he is lying”. I took this to mean Dooku was lying to himself about the deception but in truth there was still good in him and he was trying to hide from himself that he really wanted to come back to the jedi.
Ventress and Grievous may have been trained in the ways of the Dark Side. however they were never given the proper title of Darth... There's probably a certain level in the dark side which you have tot reach, which is why, when Ventress reached it, Sidious ordered Dooku to eliminate her in order to keep the Rule of Two active. Let's not forget as well how Sidious went to great lengths to ensure Maul and Savage would not pose greater threats on Mandalore and thus, it was necessary they were imprisoned/eliminated.
The Storyline wouldn't even exist then... Well what if Yoda trained Qui Gon then, he would get kinda brainwashed too and if he survived the fight against Darth Maul, he would have trained Anakin and not a lot would have changed in my opinion
I suspect that the Sith used cells, the type of structure which has been attempted by terrorists and resistance movements. Perhaps they are only activated when the top level is eliminated and spend their time in training and recruitment. If the Sith command learned of their disobedience or even of their existence, they would be eliminated. Each cell of two Sith, only the master knows the next higher level and the apprentice is tasked with creating the next lower one and would use it and any lower cells in existence to help him accomplish his assigned tasks. The force would be an additional help in maintaining communications should the chain of command be broken. The story of there ever only being two seems like misdirection.
I think the real reason Dooku let Anakin live was simply, he was exhausted and had to catch his breath. Think about it, he had just fought Obi-wan, then immediately had to turn and fight Anakin. You can see after he cuts Anakin's arm off, Dooku had to catch his breath. Then he had to fight Yoda right after that. As powerful as he is, Dooku is no longer a young man. Those two duels tired him out.
Personally as far as Dooku still having a little good left in him, that remains to be seen. As far as the Jedi go though, I believe that he was a lost cause. He was already thoroughly convinced that the Jedi Order had blinded itself to everything outside of their vision and become arrogant. But no, I believe that the REAL reason he told Obi-Wan about Sidious controlling the Senate was because he(or Sidious himself) knew that the Jedi would turn their attention to and start butting their noses into the Senate's and Palpatine's affairs. So this way Palpatine could point out that the Jedi were being very nosey for a reason and maybe even were slowly trying to use the Clone Wars to take control of the Republic. Either way. I believe this to be a masterful manipulation tactic on Dooku or Sidious's part.
Just like the Emperor says...6? "Everything that has happened has been by my design". Whatever Dooku did/said was because Sidious said to. He was always in completely control, every step of the way. As for the rule of 2, it's possible it was pure deception all along. And it was the hubris of the Jedi to believe there could only be 2 trained in the dark side. How is that balance? 2 Sith, but an army of Jedi?
What if Anakin refused to execute Dooku defying the order of Palpatine. So theoretically Palpatine would probably have turned on Anakin and possibly Dooku
Yea the rule of 2 is strange, because all of the Sith Lords apprentices had apprentices, because Darth Sidious allowed Darth tyranus to use asajj Ventress knowing she is a dark side force user. in the force Unleashed Darth Vader pad Starkiller but in this situation Vader was actually training Starkiller to overthrow Sidious, even North Tryon has had General Grievous even though he wasn't a force-user he's still trained him in lightsabers lightsabers. If there is any more some one chime in
@StarWarsTheory @Starwars I believe it was him doing several things the first being wanting to "protect"/turn Obi-Wan both out of respect for Obi-Wan as well as a felling of duty to Qui-Gon, second to test Anakin's resolve and awareness and, the third being both a flawnting of power and knowledge and awareness to the Jedi (that they lacked) as well as being a hopeful warning to those whom used to trust and befriended him.
It appears to me, to be a power level thing. If you are strong enough to be number two on your own, and you train another that becomes too strong, you become a rival. If stay in line, don't show too much ambition, you keep your head. If I am a known force user, doing just enough to survive, focusing on abilities to hide my true power level. Keep all my limbs intact if possible.
I think the Rule of Two is real "From A Certain Point Of View" Darth Plagues and Darth Sidious discussed this before. When Plagues accused Sidious of breaking T.R.T. by having Darth Maul and after Darth Tyrannus as his apprentice. Sidious explained that were assassins "tools" to be used and discarded. There will always be dark side users and/or sith with lower to average power levels but as their powers and skills improve like Ventress they will either become an apprentice or killed because they are seen as a threat to the Sith Emperor.
I think, (i've heard someone else explain this before, i think it was on this channel actually) sidious simply didn't care about the rule of two at this point. He believed it was no longer needed, as he was the end result of what it set out to achieve, and he had no plans of dying at all, and seemingly had no care for the rule of two. Remember that in the phantom menace, Plaeguis, Sidious, and Maul were all "sith" at once. By the time Sidious was the master, the rule of two was essentially dead. Even the ill fated sequel trilogy seems to support this, as Palpatine had plans to continue his life via clone, and when that failed, he went through great lengths to posess Rey, as well as seizing the oppurtunity to "revitalize" himself. Even Snoke was some sort of failed clone. He took very few, if any, steps to set up an apprentice to carry on the sith after Vader. Kylo was simply being used imo, much in the same way Dooku was.
The way I interpret is that the Rule of Two applies to two Sith Lords. Darth Sidious was the Dark Lord of the Sith but though Vader was second to Palpatine he was still a Master of the Dark Side of the Force. Vader would have been expected to either succeed Darth Sidious or take an apprentice and twist them with the Dark Side. That apprentice would be trained, would rise and grow in strength and ambition and when the time was right that dark apprentice would slay Vader and would become the new Dark Lord of the Sith, second still to Darth Sidious and then they perhaps might slay him becoming the true Master of the Sith. There can be only two Dark Lords, a Master & an Apprentice but there can be many Sith Warriors or Assassins or Acolytes like Darth Maul, Assaj Ventress, Savage Oppress or even General Grievous who, though not a Sith himself, did serve their ends with savage devotion.
I never thought that the reason Count Dooku keeping Anakin and Obi-Wan alive was to show the Jedi Order that the Sith were back and powerful. The Rule of Two maybe a way for a Sith Lord to have power while using acolytes, or tools, to make sure that they keep their power. I see the Rule of Two as sort of a two man power trip with a Sith and an apprentice running the show. A dark side acolyte would have to be crazy enough to take on a Sith Lord or an apprentice to gain power and become a new Sith Lord/apprentice.
Dooku's confession was both his jedi part and sidious plan. Sidious knew he wasn't a full sith and that a sith apprentice traditionally betrays the master so palpatine used that to his advantage and make jedi arrogant. And maybe wanted to give Jedi the last chance to change...and we know how it turned out
That there may have been a small aspect of the Light still in Dooku is an interesting possibility; when he cuts off Anakin's arm in AOTC you can see the look of almost regret in his face immediately afterwards. (The reason I think he didn't kill Anakin outright was he was afraid of what his Master would do if he did) I think he told Obi Wan about Sidious as an insurance policy if and when eventually Sidious betrayed him, and perhaps thinking ahead to an apprentice of his own to help him overthrow his Master, and, if things did go badly for him, in planting the seed of revenge in telling the Jedi about the existence of his Master.
Not sure if you’ve already done this, but I’d love a full video on your opinions and breakdowns of ‘the Rule of Two’. It’s always been a matter that I’ve understood but never really been able to explain characters like the inquisitors, Starkiller etc
I don't know if this applies to Sith, but... I am a Master (goldsmith) and I have two (dread) Apprentices. I ALSO have 5 students. These students may, one day, become apprentices. But, for now, remain students. How does this apply here? A Master may have an Apprentice, and when that Apprentice moves up, (or out) a new Apprentice is needed to take up the slack of the one now gone. Having students/acolytes/adherents to choose from saves time and energy that can be better used elsewhere.
Dooku was not a full sith, he wanted them destroyed but as a Jedi he could not do this and therefore left the order, Qui-gon also shared this view and that’s why he was convicted a akin was the chosen on. If he stayed alive, he may well of took dookus Warning seriously and maybe the Jedi could have delt with it
I think it was definitely part of Sidious' plan. His war and vendetta against the Jedi Order was more political and psychological warfare than anything. When you put doubt, uncertainty and angst in the mind of your enemy, then they are much more susceptible to a downfall than they were previously. Sidious was not only a dangerously power Sith Lord, he was a highly intelligent politician, a master strategist and a very cunning and deceptive minded person. Emperor Palpatine is probably the most powerful and dangerous villains in all of villainous history.
That what makes Darth Plagueis novel so needed in "canon" there are several parts that allude to the rule of two and it being obsolete and palatine declaring himself the sithari is effectively the end of the "rule of two" once he killed Plagueis. Also I believe there are portions of the revenge of sith novel where Dooku thinks he will be part of a new sith order that replaces the jedi with dark adapts
I think he was simply trying to plant a seed of doubt into the Jedi order, make them question themselves and become suspicious of the government. It's also possible that he was testing Obi-Wan's resolve, I think the rule of 2 is about the relationship between a Master and an Apprentice is about the idea that the apprentice is always seeking to destroy the master. The master sees the apprentice as a power to be exploited and manipulated. For the Jedi, it's about spreading their knowledge to the next generation and growing by standing on the shoulders of those who came before them. This is why they aren't threatened by stronger Jedi.
I feel like the rule of two is just something the top dog sith implements when they feel threatened. They're fine with multiple subservient sith apprentices and inquisitors until they change their mind. If maul and savage were dooku's enforcers, sidious would've been fine with it, but because they we're following their own plan he evoked the rule of two on them.

Love you sm, theory, keep the vids, fam

Love the videos you make bro keep it up!
Count dooku is such a cool character and his lightsaber is awesome
The is something cool about an Upper Class Aristocrat Sith Lord; he'll kill you in the most agonising way possible, but he'll be an absolute gentleman about it lol. I hope we see more of these style of force users in The High Republic books and comics - gentleman Jedi Knights that probably inspired Dooku and who he tried to live up to when he was a padawan; like the medieval knights of chivalry and the round table, that are masters of Form 2 and bow before every Lightsaber duel, it will be really cool to see.
shame
I loved that u said lost faith instead of Disillusioned
The Jedi became blinded by their pride. They trusted too much in the senate and protecting the law that they forget the people.
Bruh is it just me or is Theory’s voice is getting deeper and deeper every video he makes...
He practised his Yoda voice for this one
2.26 lol I have that poster on my whole at home love it so much yes
I think the rule of two was strictly adhered to initially, but over time it became more useful as a way to insulate the master of the Sith.
Fan fiction idea: What if dooku had not been trained by yoda, what if he was trained from a young age to be a sith.
Still would have been powerful. But he is almost as old or older then Palpatine so that would have worked
The Storyline wouldn't even exist then... Well what if Yoda trained Qui Gon then, he would get kinda brainwashed too and if he survived the fight against Darth Maul, he would have trained Anakin and not a lot would have changed in my opinion
Just see the Sith like a mafia. You can work for the mafia without becoming a member of the inner circle. xD
Always love these videos^^
I also believe Sidious gave Duku full reign to try and recruit whoever. The thing is Duku was always a place holder, very powerful placeholder.
I love the clone wars it’s amazing
Do a theory of what would’ve happened if Ezra joined maul as an apprentice!
Hello there
I suspect that the Sith used cells, the type of structure which has been attempted by terrorists and resistance movements.
Hello there love the channel
WHEN UR DOING THE VOICE OF OBI WAN THE ACCENT LOL
Hello there
@@obi-wankenobi7907 General Kenobi. You are a bold one.
I think that sidious told him to DEW IT! Just for the pure pleasure of daring them to find him and seeing them fail miserably.
So theoretically Palpatine would probably have turned on Anakin and possibly Dooku
th-cam.com/video/Wr0RN_TgCOE/w-d-xo.html
Yea the rule of 2 is strange, because all of the Sith Lords apprentices had apprentices, because Darth Sidious allowed Darth tyranus to use asajj Ventress knowing she is a dark side force user. in the force Unleashed
Darth Vader pad Starkiller but in this situation Vader was actually training Starkiller to overthrow Sidious, even North Tryon has had General Grievous even though he wasn't a force-user he's still trained him in lightsabers lightsabers.
I think he really did want to help at that point, still having a lot of light in him before the war continued.
That was just the Sith's ways to implant doubt in the Jedis minds. Doubt in their abilities that they have been manipulated and tricked.
General Kenobi. I’ve been waiting for you.
Hello there
I think, (i've heard someone else explain this before, i think it was on this channel actually) sidious simply didn't care about the rule of two at this point.
Love ya theory!
Ive always thought Dooku as some kind of double agent. What do you guys think?
Man, you do really good impressions
Not sure if you’ve already done this, but I’d love a full video on your opinions and breakdowns of ‘the Rule of Two’. It’s always been a matter that I’ve understood but never really been able to explain characters like the inquisitors, Starkiller etc
Friend:likes the sequels me:only a sith lord deals in absolutes
