  • Black coyote at trail cam! "Black coat coloration, or melanism, is a trait that is occasionally seen in coyotes in the Southeast, although it is rarely exhibited by coyotes elsewhere. The same genetic mutation that causes the trait in coyotes can also be found in black-colored gray and red wolves, as well as in dogs. This suggests that the trait could have found its way into the southeastern coyote gene pool through past hybridizations with wolves." - atlantacoyoteproject.org/mela... These trail cam wildlife videos are filmed on a single acre of land behind our home in Hendersonville, NC - / @wildlifebehindourhome

      Elizabeth Hodge i believe this is what called a red wolf. They have repopulated those and many have cross bred. The white mark on chest shows domestic genes.

    That coyote sure is beautiful. I've only seen one black coyote in the wild my entire life. I was on a country road and came to the stop sign, it was up on the side of the hill across from me. It just stood there, perfectly still watching me. I watched it for a minute or so and then drove off. It caught me by surprise, it was like I was frozen for a little bit. Absolutely beautiful.

    • @dixiewishbone5582
      @dixiewishbone5582 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably not a hybrid or there would be very little chance for reproduction? Black coyotes are not that rare, have seen quite a few in the past while hunting with hounds in the southeast. They will cross with dogs (same canine family) and are called coy-dogs. This one could have had some German Shepherd mix back a couple of generations ago? Still beautiful!

    • @mne9476
      @mne9476 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dixiewishbone5582 We rescued a mostly black "puppy" with some brown on the back of her legs. My sister found her in a field when she was about 8 weeks old, all by herself. About 3 lbs, but almost half of that was worms. When she got bigger, she started making very strange high-pitched howling sounds and was highly aggressive, especially with dogs. Chased deer into the woods constantly. Our vet didn't tell us until after I had to put her down (she got tetanus when she ran off one time) that she suspected she was a Coy-dog. I wondered why she asked us several times if we wanted to get a DNA test. She grew to about 25lbs. Although she was untrainable, I really loved that animal and miss her very much.

    • @WildlifeBehindOurHome

      I used to use bacon grease. But I don't want to supply anything that is food for them. So, now I use Caven's Gusto (smells like skunk) or Wrights Liquid Smoke. If they are already in the area this will hold them long enough for a decent video if they happen by. You can get a gallon of Wrights Liquid Smoke from Amazon, pour into spray bottle and spray about 10 feet in front of the cam if the cam is at 1 to 2 foot level like mine. I use it every two weeks in the same exact spots each time for years and the wildlife gets used to it and it becomes a familiar "marking" spot for bears, coyotes, bobcats and foxes. Interestingly, I had a reporter come out one time and she told me that her editor told her to see if my videos were "for real" because of how they almost seem staged with the positioning etc. Well, a lot of work has gone into that. Strategically creating paths that make sense from a wildlife point of view and also intersect one another. This one is at a path intersection. I keep them raked because the predators like the quiet footing. Cameras at wildlife level. Here is her article: mountainx.com/living/videos-show-wildlife-at-ease-behind-henderson-county-home/

      Wildlife Behind Our Home in Hendersonville, NC I didn't doubt this video was real. You can see that's a wild animal. Just beautiful to see. In fact, I thought to myself if I saw that animal...I'd probably mistake it for a pretty dog, lol! I knew something was put on the ground. That's smart....it enabled you to get striking footage of this wild creature! At many angles too! I put bird seed out for birds in my teeny tiny back yard. But it attracts the occasional squirrel & I've even caught bunnies sneaking on the deck when it's dark out...to get some of the seed that has fallen. So I'll put a little pile in yard, out of my dog's reach...so bunny can eat & I can catch a glimpse maybe. But the wildlife you get to catch on the trail cam is much more interesting!

    I spotted one of those things in central NC about twenty years ago. It was an odd sight, but there was a pack of coyotes doing something on the side of a road. They were coyotes I'm pretty sure. However, a couple were red like foxes and there were a couple of black ones. Altogether there were about 15 coyotes in the group. They were just outside of a very large group of forests. Not sure where those coyotes got their coloring, but it was interesting. Too bad I couldn't get a closer look.

      Yes, Coyotes have quite an array of different colors and coat types. Black and blond is relatively rare. I have both here!

    I think maybe that's a Timber Wolf...I have a IP camera ( LIVE STREAMING at times ) behind my house up on the mountain an see the same thing....They are trapping them in your area ( the South ) and relocating them up here in the ADK Mtn's of Lake George, NY ...but I could be wrong...anyway AWESOME footage and thumbs up !!! ;-)

    You're welcome. Do you upload at the highest resolution your camera produces? I upload everything at 1920 x 1080 and results are pretty good. By the way, I went to your link and it's amazing what you've captured. Couldn't, however, see the black bear clip. Video was ALL black.

      +Isabel Cutler Thanks, I have a number of special techniques I use in the field to capture these vids based on a lifetime of wildlife interest. The camera is a Browning Spec Ops Full HD and is set to 1920 X 1080 HD. I also use the Videopad program to edit them. The problem is that the original videos look great. But once uploaded to you tube they degrade because of the over compression that you tube uses. They are trying to save space, basically. So my 600MB video becomes a 32 megabyte video causing visual distortion/pixalation when there is movement by an animal, Its a common and well known problem that videographers are well aware of and have been complaining about for years. Just checked that link to dailymotion and the bears seem to be working. Maybe a temporary malfunction? However, the latest coyote video is temporarily "age restricted" accidentally by dailymotion!! Their software keeps automatically/accidentally doing this and they have to keep reversing it. Also, I have a number of techniques I use to capture these vids based on a lifetime of wildlife interest.

      +Trail-cam Wildlife Videos from Hendersonville, NC Just noticed that you uploaded at the highest res too...but TH-cam defaults to an "Auto" setting. Maybe you should tell people in your description to click on the gear menu and then choose the highest res if they're wi-fi can handle it!

      +Isabel Cutler I used to do that to every video. Just sort of got weary of doing it.

      Put this in a spray bottle and spray it about 6 to 8 ft in front of your cam about once a week. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007WWO4FG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

      Ads Lightning I’m 3 years late on your answer but just like any dog they roll on dead bugs, shit, or anything else that smells terrible. I can tell you from experience once you touch a coyote the smell will stick on your skin for days no matter how much you wash your hands and what you wash your hands with

    Dude! I just got trail cam footage on my Browning HD of a what appears to be a Black Coyote too. Its at night under ifrared, but there aint a grey or white spot on him, really tripped me up. He looked exactly like this but under infrared. So hope I get a daytime picture. I didn't know they could be all black. Thanks so much for uploading this video.

    I can't tell if that's a wolf or yote both tend to be in packs correct? If it's a yote that's pretty wild.
